Colleague and I went there and it just wasn't tasty. All steak tasted weird. Molay was burnt. It just wasn't good.

Cinco De Mayo! Had to get some Chile Relleno's from La Mex. One of my favorite places for them. Grabbed a quick order to go and celebrated in style. read more

Great service! Great Margherita! Great food! Great atmosphere! Try the new appetizer Botana LA Mex! I ate it as a meal. It was delicious!

Is this 5 star Mexican cuisine? No. Is this a 5 star Mexican restaurant in Pontiac Illinois? Yes. It was just myself tonight so I ordered their gold margarita, and although it was 1800, Grand Marnier, and a sour mix, the sour mix looked to be mostly lime juice making for a decent drink. The salsa and chips both seemed to be made in house with solid flavor for both. I had the pollo ranchero made extra spicy. Although it wasn't "packed" with flavor or slice, it was again solid overall. Honestly as I was just traveling through this town I really expected the quality and service to be only passable, but this place surpassed my expectations delivering a good meal with solid drinks and service, earning 5 stars. read more

AMAZING FOOD!!!!! La Mex is one of the best authentic Mexican restaurants where I live, they have delicious lemonade, and the best steak. Great fries, and very kind waiters. read more

I give this restaurant a five star review. The El macho burrito is one of the best meals I've ever had. The golden margarita was delicious. I had 2. I did leave disappointed though. I live three hours away and this will probably be the only time I get to eat there food. The service was attentive and friendly. The restaurant was warm and inviting read more

We decided to eat here instead of the family restaurant. What a great decision! The food is amazing! We both had a shrimp entree and they were both cooked perfectly! read more

Mediocre Mexican restaurant. Portions are small, and there is no wow factor with the quality. Just Ok. Better than Taco Bell though.

Oh man. We ordered take out, the guy on the phone was super easy to talk to. Food was boooommmbbbb. Awesome proportions. Hot and fresh. Definitely a new favorite for Pontiac and will be going a lot more frequently. Great job(: read more

just plain bad mexican food, it's that simple. chips and salsa were okay and service was good. read more

La Mex - Mexican Near Me - Pontiac, Illinois

Went here on a Sunday afternoon and there were very people in the place so service was pretty attentive. Yes for Pontiac, Il this was a good experience. If it were in downtown Chicago, different story. Different locales, different expectations. The chips are good and plentiful and no charge unlike a lot of places these days. The salsa was pretty good too. I had chicken enchilada suiza which was fine and my son had the taco plate with steak tacos and thought they were good as well. The atmosphere is typical for a Mexican restaurant, bight and cheery and they have a full bar. If in the area again I'd go back which I think is always the test of a restaurant. Will you go back again and yes I would. Also prices are reasonable, not cheap but in line with what you'd expect at a place like this. read more

A hidden gem. Great food and Margaritas. Oscar with great service. Bumped into it while traveling. Glad we did.

This is the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. The chips and salsa were quite boring. How can a Mexican place make bad salsa? It took forever to get waited on. I ordered a Carne Asada Chimichanga, and I swear to you the "beef" that was in this was actually chunks of cat food. I took one bite of it and spit it out, then walked out. This was my second time here, because I usually give a place two chances. It was awful last time as well. Never again will I stop here. Do yourself a favor and go to another town entirely if you want Mexican food. read more

Excellent customer service! Great food and good drinks! Would definitely come again they have a good variety on the menu!

This would be a 3-star place in Seattle. But this is Pontiac, IL. Good food with fresh (if predictable) ingredients and friendly staff. Be warned the portions are ginormous. We only had take-out, but I get the impression the place has a warm atmosphere best described as "authentic American Mexican restaurant". read more

I've been here a few times with friends. It always seems to be empty when we go there for lunch. The decor is very well done on the inside that is. The outside could use an update especially landscaping. The service is SLOW but the food is good. Prices are average. read more

Bland food, that pretty much sums up eating there. The drinks are big and strong and the decor, typical. The staff was very attentive, so I gave it two stars. read more

Just excellent food. Great fajitas. Highly recommended at good price. Full bar too. Found it from Yelp. Has good reviews but I've had good Mexican food. This place is good. Good service. read more

La Mex - Mexican Near Me - Pontiac, Illinois

Found La Mex while looking for a place to stop while traveling, and had a good dinner. Chips are really good. Salsa is good, but not as thick as at some places. We had the Quesadilla Supreme with chicken and it was very good...and huge! Lots of shredded chicken that was very tender, peppers and onions, and lots of white queso cheese (not yellow or canned.). I asked for and extra side of pico de gallo, and that made it even better. All of the food we saw delivered to other tables looked appetizing, and with generous portions. La Mex was worth the stop, and made for a nice stop off of the highway. If we weren't traveling we would have tried the margaritas! (It isn't right at the interchange, so you do have to go a mile or two in to town, but worth is, is you want something other than fast food. read more

This was probably the cleanest, cutest Mexican restaurant I have been to. The service was good and the fajitas were tasty! They have a full bar and their chips and salsa were yummy! We will definitely come back if we return to this area. read more

La Mex - Forgot to take a pic of the food so we got one outside. - Mexican Near Me - Pontiac, Illinois

Great food and a huge selection. Nice atmosphere. They offer the usual complimentary chips/salsa. The biggest challenge is usually settling on what we want to eat. read more

Luckily we were here on a quiet night. Service was great. Margarita was very good on the ice. Frozen not quite as good. Chicken chili had loads of meat. Burrito supreme had plentiful meat as well. Good food. We'd definitely eat here again if we're in Pontiac. read more

Although they close at 9pm, they said that they would stay open for us as we arrived past 8:30pm. La Mex was a breath of fresh air in a town with a lot of sandwiches and American food. Unfortunately, the food was not the greatest, but we still appreciated the change of pace. I had the shrimp fajitas that did not come out sizzling as I expected. The portion size was impressive, but the flavors were lacking. My wife ordered the chicken tostado combo and was not impressed. Maybe it was just an off night, but we will think twice before visiting La Mex again. read more

Very good food. The salsa was wonderful! We found this restaurant while on a road trip and we would definitely recommend it as a quick stop. Service was excellent! read more

Not good at all. Chili rellenos are lousy. I swear they use mozzarella cheese it sucks. If want a 5 star poblanos go to casa fiesta in streator. They have the best food hands down. read more

Friendly quick service every time even when they're jam packed! Food and margaritas are always delicious.

Im only giving two stars because the atmosphere is nice and clean. I've been there three separate times in a span of about two years. Same thing all three times. I might give it one more chance because I'm bad at learning my lesson. Chicken is always dryer than the Sahara desert, and the tortillas can barely stay wrapped because they appear to be uncooked or not at all. I'm only leaving a review in hopes they see this and attempt to do better, because I love Mexican food and this is the closest to me. Salsa was on point, nice and hot...Chips not so much read more

I ate here on a Saturday evening. Ordered the fajita combination. The dinner was served sizzling on a metal skillet. It was delicious. Only negative was there was only 3 shrimp. Lots of tasty steak and chicken. For the price, I expected more shrimp. Service was outstanding. Restaurant was very clean. The Diet Coke tasted a like it had a little touch syrup. I'll will eat here again! read more

The food was great. Very very good. The service on the other hand was disappointing. Restaurant not very busy but had to keep asking the waiter for refills and napkins. They seemed like that would rather talk to themselves then to help the customer. read more

Great service and food at La Mex. I had the Peach Margarita and the nachos supreme. Loved both of them. Always a great option in Pontiac.

Went there with family and we all agreed that the food was really bland and had little flavor. The service was sub-par as well; you really had to ask for things because the waiter sure wasn't offering any service. Drinks were warm with very little ice to cool them off. Yellow cheese sauce (like what comes out of a can) on nachos in an authentic Mexican restaurant is pretty bad; most use queso. Taco bell serves better Mexican! The decor and atmosphere is decent, but overall I don't recommend this place at all. read more

i've been to la mex several times while visiting my parents. the food is good, service is prompt/friendly, margaritas are strong, prices are moderate. i usually get the chicken enchiladas with the spiciest sauce and a margarita on the rocks. chips and salsa are some of best i've had! the food and decor are comparable to many casual mexican restaurants in chicago. i think la mex is a great addition to pontiac and hope that the restaurant will continue on for years to come! read more

We came in on a Sunday for dinner which we were looking for. The place was pretty empty, it was us and two other tables. You would expect service to be very prompt, which it was the total opposite. We got two wet burritos. terrible. I didn't even touch mine once I saw the yellow cheese with chunks of peppers it looked like cheese wiz.. I was going to scrape the cheese off and put the white cheese dip over the burrito but our server never came over to see if everything was ok. We didn't even get the sour cream which was supposed to be served with the burrito which is a small complaint I suppose. I told them I don't eat yellow cheese and wasn't eating it, they did ask if I wanted another one but of course at that point I did not. They brought me a box for my untouched burrito I said the server can take the box back because I wasn't gonna take it. They gave us our bill with my untouched burrito I told him I wasn't paying for something I did not eat. He tried arguing with me I said I work in the service industry I know how it works. Would never think about going back. read more

La Mex - My boyfriends wet burrito he took about 4 bites lol but I didn't even know Mexican places had a yellow cheese - Mexican Near Me - Pontiac, Illinois

The one and only time I ate there a bug fell from the ceiling into the salsa. The waiter refused to get me more salsa and further refused to give me a refund and called me a liar when the three other people with me seen it fall. What kind of business operates like that? read more

Checked in on the way to Springfield. American-Mexican cuisines. Finished two bowls of nachos in one sitting.

Excellent food and good service. Really busy on margarita nights. Very clean and kept up. Reasonably priced. I would highly recommend.

This is the first time I tried La Mex and I have to tell you it is amazing. Not only the food was great but the service was exceptional. I just can't say in words how good it was. If you are in Pontiac I would highly recommend coming to La Mex. I also forgot to say I had the Flautas I think it's called not too sure. But there is nothing I didn't like about this place. The only thing I didn't like was at your table they have tortilla chips and salsa. The reason I didn't like it was because the chips are so addicting and so good. So you just eat those before you get your food, then you have to bring home leftovers. But if you try this I think you'd wanna bring home leftovers. read more

Great food, stiff margaritas, friendly serving staff! A plus!

This places Carne asada is super good and I've been told the fajitas are really good too. This is one of those places you need to know what to get because they do have some pretty mediocre dishes as well. Chips and salsa are some of the better ones I've had at a Mexican place too. read more
