I attended the Los Angeles Women's Expo this past Sunday. Finding the LA Mart was very easy which was refreshing. I parked across the street for $10. There are so many floors to this place but the Expo was on the 2nd and 11th floor. Waiting for the doors to open at 11, my friends and I explored the lobby/main floor which is very nice. There are comfortable chairs to sit on and photos of old Downtown LA all around. I did enjoy myself receiving a complementary massage and tasting various flavors of wines. There were many vendors and I was happy to see some gentleman there as well. I'm sure their girlfriends or wives dragged them along. :p I was most excited to hear Patti Stanger (The Millionaire Matchmaker) and Lisa VanderPump (from the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) talk and give advice. Temps on 2 was an empty few days. Show brought no business for me. I was told by Nora that it would be a good investment to have a booth there. But it was so sad that the vendors just hung out and told their sad slow stories to each other. Not recommended for handmade artists, just from experience. :( or for a tight budget. read more

God, I love this place! It's open to-the-trade (wholesale) only except during Gift Shows and other random shows throughout the year. I bring in my clients when they want inspiration or we're looking for that final piece for the design of their home. Mostly residential on the furniture floors (1, 10-12) but lots of manufacturers that I love! Palecek, Kravet/Lee Jofa, etc. Great stuff! If you need some high-end furniture and accessories, contact your interior designer and have them take you here! And if you don't have one and want one, I'm ready and willing to help you! Do NOT visit the Market Cafe on the ground floor. The staff here is incredibly rude and inattentive, especially the men that work here. I ordered an iced mocha, the staff member gave me an americano, and tried to tell me I said americano. Retail 101 - customer is always right, I know what I ordered and others in line heard me. No offer to make my drink, just attitude. The treatment of tenants of the building and the fact that there is such horrible service is astonishing. Not to mention, the cleanliness is a real issue with the food, which is why I won't order food. So much cross contamination - if you have food allergies or dietary needs, beware. read more

I had never heard of the LA Mart until a friend asked me to meet with the new Business Development Director to discuss their new community space on the 11th floor. S. Broadway is a bit industrial and so I was pretty surprised to find the very clean and secure Parking Lot when I drove up. The lobby is spotless and a cute cafe serves drinks and snacks. Everything about it feels safe and secure but also welcoming. There are some pretty swanky furniture and gift showrooms on the various floors...if you have the opportunity take a look at the bejeweled cribs that are available. In addition to the showrooms, there are plenty of places to host an event or even a huge conference. The 11th floor is something else entirely. It hosts Artists in Residence, a Fab Lab, soon to be a Trends University, Coworking Space and the LA Makerspace. If you get a proper tour be sure to ask to see the "Bar Mitzvah" room. read more

You must try the breakfast taco! I would have taken a picture and had every intentions of doing so but it was good I nearly inhaled it. They are $2.25 each. They are very stuff though so they are worth the price. Also they served it to me with a fork which I thought was weird but I understand why because it is so stuffed. However it is not stuffed a negative way to where you feel overwhelmed with toppings. Was here for the Oktoberfest. Went into the mart while I'm there, it's a very interesting place. There a art gallery, a few furniture store, a few lighting store. Most of them were closed at the time of my visit, so I don't know their price range. Will sure check it out if I ever need any furniture or fixtures. read more

They refuse to deal with customers in any way, i bought a pack of carrots when my wife opened it it was moldy but i through aeay the reciept before i get to know, next day i went there to return or get another one .. the customer service ask for proof!! I told him to scan the item but her refused its only 3$ i threw the carrots in the trash infront of him but he doesnt care... I am currently in the parking lot of your facility and I have been completely offended by the general manager of your business. I came with my mother, that has driven from Las Vegas, Nevada to come here. I have mine and my mother's intelligence and wealth questioned and put down by your general manager. I know the laws on policy through and through. I have a B.A. in international business from USC, an MBA from Pepperdine, and a GMBA from Yonsei University, so throwing "legality" in my face when you're breaking the laws on enforcing policy does not help your business in anyway whatsoever. I was told this was on the "high end and it isn't like me shopping at Ashley furniture," when I make 6 figures and my mother makes 6 figures and so do my brothers, father, and my youngest brother I brought is a millionaire due to a malpractice suit. As well as my entire family having served this country in order for people like you and your ridiculously rude General Manager to stay safe. So all together we have more money than your general manager has made in the past 5 years. I was told the website says that it says you must have a sellers licence in order to go in. Which, even when your general manager pulled it up, he could not find it, because it isn't there whatsoever, and due to his incompetence. Then he proceeded to say it was because of the mobile site. When I pulled up the desktop version, it still did not state that on your website, nor is it publicly posted. Which, by law, as your general manager liked to insult my intelligence by throwing around "legality," you CAN NOT enforce a policy without it being publicly displayed. Seeing as your company refuses to display policy in any form it is amazing how you haven't been sued yet. However, given how I, my mother, my older brother, and my younger mentally disabled brother were treated, most likely due to the fact we are of African -American descent, I have no qualms over being the first for any of the aforementioned reasons. This mart peaked out in 2001, but I thought it would have gotten better under new management. The problem with the mart now, is there are only about 4 floors of showrooms for an area with a metro of 20 million people. What that means is that you get a handful of showrooms for all the business in LA. Well what begins to happen is a few show rooms begin to control what goes where and who gets what, because of the lack of competition. Remember it is not because your showroom is great....it is just there is nothing else for venders and shop owners to buy and place their product. Try Atlanta or New York, there is much more products and showrooms, which means they will appreciate your hard earned money and offer you real choices. read more

This review is for their cafe located on the 1st floor. I was called in for jury duty and didn't want to trek to far from the courthouse. Conveniently enough LA Mart offers a great little cafe that offers coffees, teas, smoothies, salads, sandwiches and soups. There is a private lot with ample parking. Gorgeous show rooms with various furniture and trinkets. Prices for food: small soup $4, salads $6-10, sandwiches $6-10. They have agua frescas which are fresh and perfectly sweetened. Service is very nice and accommodating. Definitely not a bad choice considering the limited options around especially if your trying to eat fresh and tasty. read more

It depends really where you're going and what you're looking for. If you looking for contemporary furniture, there's only one store of all the stores in the 12 floors that has the inventory you're looking for. It was excellent though. I give them 5 stars and a thumbs up for quality customer service. And there's one lighting fixture store in one of the top floors that has a catalogue of modern and traditional fixtures. If you're looking for classical, ornate, or traditional rustic styled furnitures and whatever, there's plenty of stores to choose from. However, I didn't really like that there were a lot of gift shops when really the LA Mart people could've cut down a bit. There were literally 9 out of 12 floors when I was looking at the elevator buttons that turned out to be gift shops or had nothing at all. FYI the elevator can only head up or head down, meaning if you want to go floors down but some people had already pressed buttons higher than yours, you have to wait and endure till every last level higher is reached before you can press yours. I also didn't like how each floor had sections where it was emptied out, like there once used to be a shop there but it was abandoned. There were also sections where there were furniture and whatever but the doors were closed and no one was there. Very disappointing. If I based my review off of this, I would've given then a 1 or 0 star. But I got what I was looking for so no complaints there. Just note whatever you're buying, you're not going to be buying it upfront. Be sure to have your business card ready or your email/ phone number for them to contact you. But all the stories you've heard about this convention don't really compare to when you're actually there. When I was in line at the Registration, there was a lot of hassle made about me forgetting to bring a business card with my name on it. I had a photo ID and the printed invitation downloaded with the barcode, but apparently there are strict regulations. Designers, don't forget to bring both or else you'll have to wait for quite some time. Disappointments aside, everyone was friendly there. I walked over here today when I had a break from jury duty. I didn't and couldn't go look at the display rooms because I didn't have an appointment with anyone. But, I ate in the market on the first floor. I just had a blueberry muffin. This is probably the nicest restaurant in the area that I was in today which isn't saying a whole lot because I don't think there were any other restaurants around. But, if you want to get a way from the courthouse for awhile, this is a good place to go because it is just around the corner from the courthouse. read more

Today I went to Beautycon LA and I thought it was going to be like Halloween but for makeup and giving out free samples galore. That wasn't the case the only way to truly get a "free sample" from brands was to either buy their products (before even trying them) or promoting them on social media. I felt that if I didn't post a picture promoting the brand I wouldn't get the same perks as I would if I was a beauty blogger. My experience started off ok I bought general admission tickets which were $50 each, and we got there 30 minutes early. At this point the line was already wrapped around the building. There was no real direction or organization at all throughout the event. The line took about an hour to get through which is pretty normal for these types of events. Most of the big makeup brand booths were giving away a tiny, travel size makeup for waiting in their lines for hours and then forcing you to promote their products without knowing what they actually were, I can only compare it to a rollercoaster. First you wait lines for hours, Then once you get through the ride you say "Wow I waited all that time for this?" One of the indie brands called RUDE really stood out badly to me. I was looking around the booth and I asked the owner what kind of products he sold, He failed to give me a valid answer, It was like he was trying to hide something. Once he had customers come up to the line to pay he blew us off so he could get his money from the people that were paying. That being said him and his company were appropriately named RUDE. This made me feel like I didn't matter. That all everyone cares about is my money. I learned today that the "Youtube Beauty World" is very different from the "Real Beauty World", Youtube beauty is full of lies and it's all based on promotion and fame, It's like being used and manipulated to think something is great when it isn't. The real beauty world is based on good quality products, years of testing, and the products promote themselves by their artists. Many brands are followers and they lack originality. The most valuable lesson I learned today would be that I'd prefer to be a leader not a follower. My favorite parts of the convention were going to BECCA's booth and getting shade matched to my "perfect" foundation shade, Making my own DIY coffee scrub and KIND Protein Bars they were giving away for free. Overall the negatives outweighed the positives and I wouldn't attend another Beautycon again, My $50 got me about $5 worth of samples. The lessons I learned today were way more valuable than $50 worth of "beauty products." Save your money you will get more just by going to a makeup store. read more
