Well its 6 years but i came back. I had the same dish I had then The Royal Coucous. I would like to take credit for the dramatic improvement but.... I was the first to review this place 6 years ago. The dish was wonderful! Full of flavor with chicken,lamb and sausage. The couscous was moist yes i said moist, get over it! Ha ha. Lots of carrots and turnips and some other things i didnt recognize but liked. Velvet had the soup with lentils and chick peas. It was wonderful. Wine was very good as was the service. read more

Excellent gem in the heart of old Quebec City. We ordered takeout one night and then the next day, we returned for a sit-down dinner in the restaurant's low-key, elegant dining area. The interior design, replete with colorful Moroccan lanterns and contemporary Arabic music, transported us from the bustling touristy neighborhood and enhanced our enjoyment of our meal. The food is excellent. We enjoyed every dish we ordered: vegetable couscous (with chick peas, carrot, turnip, and cabbage); chicken couscous (same plus poached chicken); grilled chicken kabob with rice, vegetables, and tabbouleh; and chicken tagine with olives, prunes, carrots, turnip, and tfayah (slow-cooked onion and raisin). The tagine in particular was memorable, with the perfect balance of savory and sweet, beautifully seared skinless bone-in chicken thighs, and generously sized, tender vegetables. We also loved the mint tea. Everything was made with care and an expert hand. The server and chef were welcoming, kind, and knowledgeable. Really good Marocain restaurant in the heart of Quebec city. The portion are pretty good also at an affordable price for the location. Recommend taking the table d'hôte, only 5$, for a soup a desert and an awesome tea. Très bon restaurant marocain au cœur de la ville de Québec. Asked for more water to make more tea with the leaves we already had with the intent of making it without sugar, but was given a new pot and charged twice. The food is a great addition to the area. We enjoyed our romantic dinner and tried every dish in the house by ordering the soup, couscous, and then the two royal plates. So these past reviews don't seem fair. I'm lucky phone was dead when I walked past as the place is, as of this review, sitting at a really low rating. Let me tell you why this place was great and to take those reviews with a grain of salt. The one review stands out involving an "expensive" bottle of wine. My dear Europeans using this application, you can get great wines for little money in Europe. This fact is something, in addition to many other items, that I loved about your continent. In a tourist-heavy area in North America, if you get a full bottle of wine with your meal, it WILL be a little more expensive than in Europe. If that is an issue either: 1. Don't order wine or 2. Don't travel to cities in North America if you require European wine bottle pricing with a meal. I was with my co-worker from France and she chuckled that the place made her think of Moroccan restaurants on back side streets while she was in Marrakesh. The server was delightful and helpful. The restaurant, despite being in a heavily congested and popular area, was peaceful and a welcome reprieve. I had ordered the lamb Kebab. The lamb was cooked perfectly. It was also unbelievably tender. The sides in the dish were nothing unique in terms of what was offered what the meat. However, they were exceptionally seasoned. I was somewhat embarrassed as everything was so good that finished my plate more quickly than I would have liked. Despite having our meal in the courtyard, the interior was enchanting with different glass lamps and exposed wooden rafters that made me think of older buildings of my childhood. My girlfriend and I popped into here on NYE. A lot of restaurants were booked, or too pricey (what can we say, we're budget travelers). On a whim, we decided it was a Moroccan food kind of night. First of all, it's down an alley. There is a sign, but I don't think it's terribly obvious where it is. But you follow the neon beer sign, and you'll find it. Inside is a really cool decor complete with pillows and comfy chairs. The food: Full disclosure: I've never been to Morocco, so I can't vouch for the authenticity, but it was good. I got the sausage (I forget the name of it) and my girlfriend got the Vegetable Couscous. Both were great. And if you pay $5 more, you get tea (Moroccan sweet tea), lentil soup, and baklava. Everything about this restaurant spoke of getting it right. Starting with a long narrow entry that takes one back away from the hustle and bustle of Rue St-Jean into the quite whisperings of Middle Eastern music. Here the pleasures of the palate become accustomed to the flavors of another continent presented by gracious and friendly staff. I must say the lamb melts in ones mouth and is carefully placed on a bed of couscous cooked to perfection so that the au-jus flavors that below. This is topped by a generous portion of perfectly cooked carrots, parsnips, onions, raisons and olives atypical of most Canadian offerings. This was followed by a digestive pot of the de menthe and baklava just like back in the day. I would return here in a heart beat. read more

This place lacks both ambience and quality. The soup, disrespectfully called Harira, was nothing more than a broth of some sort, with few peas and spices more suited for Gumbo than Moroccan cuisine. I ordered royal tajin and there is nothing royal about it: two pieces of lamp chops and small chicken thigh the upper piece only not even a full thigh!!! Coscous is soggy and wet. They fill your plate with over cooked unflavored carrots and squash in big chunks so you get full but the meat quantity is extremely small. The Harira soup is just brown water and moroccon salad looked and tasted like rotten. After all this bad food, when I came to pay they automatically put the tip in the machine for them selves over 15% they did not even ask me or give me a choice, the owner looked so rude and was watching me to make sure I don't say a word and pay whatever they charge me silently which I did because I did not want to enter a fight with him and ruin my vacation as he looked very savage and he was just standing in the kitchen not cooking,doing nothing, there is no smell or sign of preparing food which confirms that the food is old and not fresh. The restaurant is dirty and the washroom is filthy. We just entered because on Google maps it says that this restaurant is halal, now I even suspect that its halal because they are just a bunch of thieves who will steal your money for soggy tasteless carrots and squash. read more
