Ok I'll admit it... I have an obsession with Mediterranean food! I think I would eat it everyday if I could afford it! I was sooooo happy when I discovered how close this location was to my home. Most Mediterranean restaurants are populated mostly in Dearborn. So it's special when you find one in Detroit. This was a very smart decision on the owners part to open here. Based on the lack of availability of Mediterranean restaurants I'm sure they get a lot of foot traffic. Not only is it close....IT'S GOOD! They are fast, cordial, and have great service! I and other neighborhood patrons of LK have noted recently (april 2021) in other forums that they are not observing COVID safety protocols. The counter cashier is always without face mask, there is no safety barrier, and it appears like kitchen staff is also maskless. It's rare to find a Middle Eastern restaurant in this area (Dearborn is the main area for this type of cuisine). I placed my order online through their website. I ordered cup of lemon chicken rice soup, a fattoush salad and a side of garlic sauce. The order was confirmed by the restaurant and restaurant would update order status. After 30 minutes I noticed order was not getting updated so I decided to go to restaurant to inquire. Once I arrived told the young lady I placed an online order and was there to get it. She informs me that the restaurant never received order. I show her the confirmation text message and she gives me a blank look and repeats that they never received my order. I reorder and wait another 15 mins on order. Do not place an order online through their website bc the restaurant may never receive it). What was the point of offering online ordering? The food: soup was extra thick and tasted like it had too much nutmeg. The salad was a disappointment as well. It just wasn't balanced (too many onions and not enough tomatoes. Is there a shortage?). $54 for some flavorless food I got the meat and hummus diner and the chicken kebab dinner both had no flavor also one of dinners said $17 on the menu but I was $21 when I came In to purchase. The yellow rice was also very bland I hesitated when I thought about ordering and now I wish I would have went with my first mind. Would not recommend gave two stars because the guy at the front was nice and the smoothies where good. I have ordered meals from this establishment several times and have been very satisfied with the quality....until today. The chopped Romaine lettuce in the salad I purchased today was brown along some of the edges. It appeared to have been chopped a day or two earlier. When I called to complain about the old lettuce, the person answering the phone got an attitude. When I asked to speak to the cook, she that was not necessary since she was the manager. I stated that I regretted paying a 28% tip. That's when she went off. I really want to support local businesses but this establishment will probably lose my business. I have an immunocompromised husband; we have been quarantined for weeks. We have a very good friend who scrupulously practices good pandemic behavior. He frequently helps us out and occasionally picks up carry-out for us. On May 14th I made an order for two dinners, paid by credit card and added a 20% tip. When our friend went to pick up the order, he returned with only one bag and one dinner. Both my husband and I saw him arrive with only one bag. Thinking he had simply left the second bag on the counter, he returned to pick it up. Upon arriving he was informed that they had given him two bags, which he denied and we could verify. The response was wholly unprofessional and outrageous. Ultimately, someone came out from the back and called him a "LIAR". Not only was this response uncalled for, it was not even logical. Why would he have traveled twice from Grand River and Southfield all the way to Beech Daly, for the sole purpose of cheating the merchant out of a $14.99 dinner? These people may not subscribe to the theory that the customer is always right, but to call the customer and outright liar is a bridge too far! I have disputed the credit card transaction, and will send them a check for the dinner we did receive. Needless to say, we will never order from this place again. Today was my first time trying this restaurant out. The food was good, a little different from what I'm used to getting. I was a bit disappointed that the rice wasn't basmati rice. The carrot juice was very delicious. I ordered the shish kabob lunch, and to be totally honest, wasn't impressed, but it was good. I'd go back and order something else, just to give them a chance. I was in the area and wanted something other than the typical food in the area. Based off of the ratings, I stopped in. I order a hummus and salad sandwich (not on the menus) and a lemonade. I swear the sandwich was twice the size of what some other restaurants provide. Very well seasoned and delicious!!! I have been very impressed with the food, service, and convenience of La Kabob Grill. It is amazing to have another restaurant in the neighborhood where the ingredients and fresh and the portions are generous. I have had both meat and veggie options, and I love the rice and salads (tabouli and fattoush). I hope that this restaurant continues to use quality ingredients and keep the standards high!
