The place was busy on a Saturday night. We loved the warm, colorful decor. The drinks were excellent, I loved the frozen mango margarita, not too sweet. Food was delicious, the red and green salas very fresh and tasty. They have a lot of veg options and happily accomodated special request for veg chimichanga without mushrooms. Service was good. I do believe that the many negative * ** *** Reviews already here are factual. BTW, I did not read them until after my dining experience. Server brought the smallest cheapest cellophane-wrapped white plastic fork & knife in a tiny napkin, the kind only found in the lowest Fast-Food chains. Excuse me?!?! First time I recall having to ask for real utensils in a restaurant. Food was just weird. Strangest looking & tasting Chalupas ever. Taco was bland. Chips were not fresh. Worst-tasting Sauce I've ever had. I asked for Salsa, & it too was terrible ~ very sweet & inedible. I asked the Server if it contained Sugar, & she nodded. WTH?! Service was lax, though there was only one other occupied table. One of the Honchos walking around never donned a mask. I'm one & done here. read more

Second time here and gets three stars for the very delicious rancherito on first visit. That dish is a 5 star. Service is good also. Second time visiting on a Tuesday after lunch crowd. The place smelled very strange. Like mold. I have mold allergy so I will know later if I am affected by this. I can always smell it. Sometimes in crowded venues it is more difficult for patrons and staff to notice due to overwhelming food odors - but due to lack of activity it was very noticeable. I have been to many, many, many Mexican restaurants all over the country. I cannot recall a single one charging for additional salsa. The first tiny serving is brought to the table as expected with chips. Any additional is extra fee. This is extremely disappointing. The only upside of this is saving calories for the meal and sticking To my diet better. So if dieting - this may be a good option. The lack of salsa is the main reason for my removal of at least one star. Just tacky, not a common practice or welcoming. read more

We were seated immediately and given a big table in the back, immediately you notice the hand carved Mexican colorful chairs. They took our drinks order and served warm corn chips, a mild red salsa and a hot but tasty green salsa (very flavorful), We asked for more and it was provided right away. Service was very efficient, we got our drinks and appetizer right away. Our food arrived hot, fresh and delicious, the fajitas come with 3 homemade corn or flour tortillas, the dishes are not giant but just the right size. The only negative, the fajitas came with sour cream and no guacamole. We didn't stay for dessert but next time we will try some churros, I hope they are as good as their food. read more

The only thing that was good was the queso...literally. Group of 6 of us and no one enjoyed their food. The xlg fajita plate had chicken and beef that looked nothing like fajitas should look. I was in town to attend a funeral and decided to stop in for lunch after reading the reviews. They have an extensive lunch menu with lots and lots of choices. I really love the 3 different types of sauces they bring out, a sweet "warm" sauce, a fresh "hot" sauce and a green "mildly spicy" sauce. The chips also were crisp and hot. I ended up ordering the lunch special #1 that was comprised of a shredded beef taco, a cheese enchilada, rice and beans. The enchilada was "dressed" with a lettuce and tomato mixture. The shredded beef taco was really delicious. The rice was also very good. The refried beans were a bit on the dry side, but ok. I wasn't totally impressed with. Instead of chili con carne it had a somewhat bitter enchilada sauce. Service was very attentive and I most definitely will try the restaurant again when I am back in town. I am a huge fan of chili rellanos and I can't wait to try theirs. read more

And the bean burrito was blah - like I could've made better at home, and without the hint of lard. And our waiter, who seemed like he might own the joint, Julio, overcharged us. I pointed to what we wanted, but but he charged us for the 'dinner' version, that comes with rice and beans. We didn't want that. I didn't want to make a fuss so I just paid for it, but due to that and the mediocre food (and the smell) we won't be back. read more

Came on busy race weekend, and service was phenomenal. I couldn't get halfway through my water before one of several servers asked if I wanted more. I had V8 with guac taco and 2 cheese enchiladas with cheese sauce. Cheese enchiladas were nicely crisped. My wife had fish tacos and though they could use a little more spicyness. Two stars is probably overly generous for this establishment. We went here to eat lunch with some locals at their recommendation. I think the locals were only interested in the margaritas, which are pretty hard to mess up if you ask me. The service was truly atrocious. We constantly had to ask for refills on drinks salsa chips etc. even when we asked for these they often did not come or had to be asked for again. Our table of five had probably three servers serving us and still could not seem to adequately provide bare minimum service. The food was... underwhelming to say the least. They had two red salsas. One was sweet, weird. The other was nearly flavorless. If you like spicy, ask for the GREEN sauce. This was the one delicious thing about this place. Other locals we spoke with later agreed with us. We ordered the combination fajitas for two. The meat was described by one of my companions, a mid-60s local, as "those little tiny pieces that are easy to chew!" as if that was a good thing. The meat was tough, overly salty, and over cooked. We got 3 tortillas. For TWO people. When we asked for more, we were later CHARGED for the second batch. The sides included a teaspoon portion each of of guacamole that definitely was NOT fresh, sour cream, pico de gallo on wilted lettuce. I asked for extra sides of guacamole and sour cream, which i@' happy to report were sizable portions and reasonably priced. If I find myself in Hot Springs again, I will avoid this establishment. I'll start this by saying I usually hate it when people write bad reviews after one visit to a restaurant, but this time I'm making an exception, because I'll never be back. I'll start with the good: Service was excellent, queso was good, that's it. Now the bad: My wife ordered her mainstay of fajitas, they were 12.99 for chicken and she got a tiny bit of chicken, peppers, and onions. She said they tasted like teriyaki. I ordered a torta, it was large for the price, but it was disappointing to see they had obviously put store bought salad mix on it instead of lettuce, it had cabbage in it. If you're going to make fajitas they should be proportional to the price, the amount she had wouldn't have fed a small child. We won't be back. My recommendation is to go Don Juan's. read more

We wanted a take-out meal for 8 people. We called La Hacienda at 11 am and spoke to an incredibly helpful associate, Gabriel. Gabriel happily took our order; fajitas, rice and beans and all the fixings, for 8 people, to be picked up at 7 pm. Not only was the dinner absolutely delicious, Gabriel made it so easy to set up and serve. We had plenty of fajitas, rice, beans, salsas, guacamole and chips for everyone and it was delicious! This was my second check in and I was pretty satisfied. I got a shrimp quesadilla last time and it was half-decent. This time I decided on a shrimp fajita and it was scrumptious. The shrimp was high quality and so was the rice and guacamole. I personally think it's a pretty good main course meal. My only problem was the water underneath all the contents. Pretty fair experience and will keep returning to this restaurant to try more. read more

These 2 stars are being generous! The mark of a good Mexican restaurant is Salsa, if can't make good salsa, it's the intro for what you can expect from the food. Our waitress deserved -, they bring out the smallest amount of salsa ever, one taste like ramen noodle seasoning, the others taste like rotten tomatoes and puréed jalapeños. The only reason this review gets 2 stars is one for what seemed to be the manager(he was nice) and another server who helped more than our own who refused to bring anything asked for including when requesting napkins she brought 1 for a family of 4‍. There is no reason for two things here, no pictures and no reason to return ever. Not to mention whatever (maybe mold) in the ice cubes. And a surprisingly overwhelming smell of fabuloso to attack your taste buds while attempting to eat. There are plenty of places to chose from in HS and no reason to stop here. read more

The food was fantastic. I am very sensitive to chili peppers which makes liking Mexican food tricky. The staff was very accommodating to my concerns. I ordered the tortilla soup and Esquites. I requested no pico on the soup and no chili powder on the esquites. Both requests were accommodated. The soup was amazing. It had a rich broth and plenty of tender chicken. The esquites was equally delicious. The service was good. We did not need to wait or ask for anything as they were quite attentive to us. My favorite Mexican restaurant, hard as it is for me, a Texan, to admit. I love the cheese enchilada plate, but I am sure their other items are great. My boyfriend likes the vegetarian burrito, and the shredded beef tacos are also very good. But this place has some of the best queso (white Mexican cheese style) and best refried beans (they must be lard + crack, seriously) I have ever eaten. The chips are great (always the ultimate test of any Mexican restaurant), and they bring you two salsas: a very hot green one and a sweet red one (I assume it has brown sugar, and maybe a splash of pineapple juice in it). They are addictive. The place has a great atmosphere and full bar (strong margaritas!) in addition to an attentive staff. I also love their heavy, blue glassware. I live in Austin, so I only get to eat here about once every year or so, but I always make sure it's my first stop in Hot Springs. My family and I have been eating here for years.
