The chili relleno had a thick coating that tasted like it had been microwaved too long. The beef enchilada was a corn tortilla with ground beef on the inside rolled up. The beans were mush but the rice was tasty. Very disappointing.

A menu that covers every imaginable Mexican food combination. It is oriented more towards traditional than OkieMex. Salsas were fair, service good with the exception of the manager. He seemed a little grumpy and obviously distracted by something outside, kept looking out the front door like he was trying to catch someone. Perhaps the perp that broke his window. Sopes: three fresh fried crispy corn cakes, smeared with a little refried beans to anchor the good steak slices, that topped off with lettuce tomato and sour cream. Very filling, two was enough. A deliciously seasoned bowl of Charro beans accompanied the meal. My wife's chicken, beef and cheese enchiladas were covered with the flavorful, colorful sauces. You will need the salsa picante to kick the flavor and heat up a little. Good food, the waiters were friendly and attentive. A recommended restaurant. When in Stillwell...eat here.

Jose's is located on the east side of S. Muskogee Ave. on Monroe. The restaurants had been in business for quite a few years. The locals know where it is. Google search pays off for those of us that don't. Jose's menu is small, with all the right stuff. Tacos, Gorditas, Sopes, Burritos, Enchiladas, Tortas and a good selection of meats. All that you need and nothing that you don't for authentic Mexican food. Three sopes for me and my wife got the enchilada plate. We ordered barbacoa for both meals. I added a small queso, salsa and chips. They cost extra. They are worth it. The sopes were excellent, very filling. Two would have been enough. The red sauce on my wife's enchiladas was the real deal traditional red chili sauce. The barbacoa was well seasoned, tender chunks of beef. Salsa wise, the mild was fair, the picante had bite and flavor, the queso excellent and the green was world class delicious. The green salsa was served warm and it was wonderful! Excellent authentic food, served fresh, good service, order at the counter. A clean restaurant with a big dining area. Jose's has some of the best of what I call traditional authentic style Mexican food, that we have had in Oklahoma.

Imagine if you will the small town of Tahlequah having a large clean new Mexican restaurant; Hacienda Vieja. It is nice. The owners' spent a few bucks to build out a large, nicely decorated restaurant, inside and out. Big parking area in the back. I believe it is associated with one of the Oklahoma based Mexican restaurateur cartels, that operate a chain of restaurants you would recognize by name. They advertise as authentic with excursions into TexMex cuisine. Looking at the menu I would say it's basically OkieMex, with some nice upgrades. To find the menu Google, Hacienda Vieja, then click on the "Order on Line." That will take you to a useable version of the menu. The lunch menu is a deal! My wife went with the Sophia Special; two spinach enchiladas covered with red enchilada sauce and cheese sauce, served with rice and beans. The filling for the enchiladas was delicious. A mixture of fresh onions and spinach, grilled. The combination of red enchiladas sauce and queso worked well as a tasty covering for the enchiladas. I had the Special Lunch 1. A chili relleno, taco, refried beans and guacamole. Plenty of food, check the picture. Everything was mildly seasoned. A little help from the good salsas was needed. The guacamole was too salty, even for my taste, and a little bland. Let's not forget the chips and salsa and a special dip! The red salsa good and green salsa; an excellent fire roasted jalapeno salsa. It had heat, but mild enough that my wife ate almost as much as I did. Then there is this thing in the appetizer section called NSU Dip. I would describe it as bunch of Mexican food left overs, thrown together as a midnight snack, after getting home from a late night at the bar. Maybe that is its origin, invented by a NSU student. Who knows? It was a conglomeration of chicken, ground beef, beans, Pico de Gallo, jalapeño slices and cheese dip. Surprisingly damn good! The service was very good start to finish. The restaurant has a nice outdoor dining area for those few Oklahoma summer days, when you can stand to be outside. Clean and modern inside! The lunch menu is a bargain. We had two filling meals, an order of NSU dip, chips and good salsa, iced tea and a water. All coming in for a bill of around $27 without a tip. That is a good deal! Try it!
