America's Best Cuban Sandwich Shop - Cuban all the way

Long story short, I had to go do laundry at the Laundromat next door---so figured might as well…read moregrab a bite to eat so I can grub on something while watching the clothes spin clean. On the way there, I decided to call and see what time the shop closed. The owner picked up and said hello (no business name)--so yes I had a brief moment of confusion but just decided to go for it----I asked what time they closed. She responded she was there now and I could place and order if I liked (ok I was hungry, so that sounds like a winning situation). I ordered a Cuban sandwich (it comes in 2 sizes regular and large). I figured hey---go large or go home---besides I could just save the rest for later. Told her I was about 10 mins away. I got there and the sandwich was still toasting in the sandwich press. The sandwich was huge! The ingredients were very fresh and tasty. I thought for the price there was a good amount of meat/veggie/bread ratio. 3 stars for the tasty sandwich, and 1 additional star for randomly making me food when I was hungry! Woot Woot!

I recently read it was under new ownership on Nextdoor app, so I gave it a try. I Had the Cuban and it was very good. Good to know there is an option for a good Cuban in the Northside now. It needs some more sprucing up, but it's far better than it was. I will be back.

As of late it's been ehhh.. curbside pick up was no longer an option and the delivery option…read morewouldn't work on the app so I had to opt into going into the establishment and pick up as rapid. While I understand that we all have hard days and food service workers have ghetto hardest days because people.. I had to try to get the attention of the staff behind the cooking counter because they had 10 bags back there instead of on the designated shelf to pick up and when I asked for my order I was given the rudest response... Other than that, the soups were good per usual

I have never been a Panera fan, but the wife is. I reluctantly said yes, because we had a gift card…read morethat needed using. The woman taking our order was semi-abrasive in the beginning, but chilled out somewhat by the end of placing our order. I ordered the Ciabatta Cheesesteak sandwich and she ordered the Frontega Chicken sandwich. I wasn't impressed, as over the years past, with my sandwich. There was not enough meat and the flavors just did not provide me with a, "yum, that's pretty good, I think we will have to come back one day" feeling. The wife's sandwich was "too peppery" for her so we swapped halves. Meh, I wasn't impressed with that sandwich either. The wife ordered just water. The "free" water, from the soda dispenser, was terrible and undrinkable, with a foul odor and heavy (nasty) hard metallic taste. We realize the water in Florida is "hard" and the reason we obtained a purifier for our home, but this needs to be rectified in a restaurant. My ice tea tasted fine. I'm giving this place a 2 star (could've been better) rating, while the wife would probably give them a 4 star (good) rating even with the nasty tap water. My Yelp account, thus my rating. The fresh breads they sell looked good, though I was reluctant to buy any.

Parlor Doughnuts in Lakeland, FL -- Come for the doughnuts, stay because you've made a new friend…read more My husband and I walked into Parlor Doughnuts around 10:30 in the morning with absolutely NO idea what kind of doughnut we wanted. None. Zero. We stood there studying the menu like it was a major life decision. Thankfully, there wasn't a line behind us, because we probably took a good 10 minutes trying to figure out our doughnut destiny. And the wonderful woman working the counter was SO patient, friendly and helpful. Honestly, she didn't just help us choose doughnuts -- she probably could have helped us figure out our lives, too. And if she ever decides to get into real estate, I'm telling you now -- this gal could sell some houses! She was that engaging and personable. We told her what we liked, and she worked with us. I love peanut butter, and she told me she had a little bit left, so she made me a fresh doughnut with it. It was absolutely delicious. My husband likes very plain doughnuts, so she made him a "Plain Jane" and even offered to add a little sugar or honey. He politely declined because apparently he wants his doughnut to be as plain as humanly possible. We also grabbed a few of their smaller doughnuts, which were only 65¢ each. Everything was incredibly fresh, and there were probably a dozen or so varieties available that morning. Some had already sold out, but here's the cool part: if they have the ingredients, they'll work with you and make what they can. Especially on a slower morning, it felt like such a personal experience. The doughnuts were so fresh that my pictures honestly don't do them justice. The shop itself is also really nice. There's parking around downtown if you look for the free spots, music playing overhead (hello, 60s! ), plenty of tables, couches and comfortable spaces. It would be a great little place to sit and work, too. And the air-conditioning was PERFECT -- not freezing, not roasting. Just right. So if you're in Lakeland, come support this local doughnut shop. The doughnuts are fresh, the people are wonderful, and you might even walk out with a new favorite doughnut... or a new real estate agent. Parlor Doughnuts -- definitely worth a stop!
