Over the years the Restaurant Markthalle has improved its variety of offering and taste…read more Lunch is pretty sweet here, it is located in Kreis 4 near the Viadukt and the wait for food is average-okayish for Zurich Swiss restaurant standards. The prices are also average decent for Swiss food (ranging from CHF 25-45) especially when you take in the quality/care taken in the preparation of the food, and the very good service I get each time I am here. Regionally sourced foods and wines - with the fresh and wholesomeness you'd expect of Swiss cuisine. Vegetarians/Flexitarians will like this place, as their veggie offering has always delighted me such as the seasonal offering of mashed sweet potatoes topped with lentils and roasted shallots. As the menu changes time to time, it makes coming here exciting so don't get stuck on one dish. I did experience one appetizer once a few years ago that I wasn't crazy about (pulpo in soy) but as they can be experimental the things that may not sound right to you off hand is a hit or miss. If you are unsure, I'd suggest asking the friendly, good service wait staff here for recommendations. The slight drawback is that the lay out of this restaurant (as it is located in a market hall) may give the feeling to some that it is a canteen setting in a restaurant, but the excellent services makes up for that lack of character. Also a positive is it can be good for slightly larger groups. Upon my last visit, they even amped up the service by bringing cooked bones in a stainless steel dog bowl for my friend's dog immediately after seating us - and we didn't even ask for it! (We immediately declined it due to concerns over risk of splinters in digestion due to them being cooked) There are also some savvy/traditional appetizer dishes - to which I was fortunate enough to dine with a Swiss foodie/chef here to try them all... I suggest you also nab a Swiss foodie here to try out some of the offerings and see how it goes! As of July 2017, they no longer open on Sundays - I used to go to their brunches on a blue moon.

The prices are high. 21 swiss franks for a small portion of bilini is crazy. The foie gras was 60 franks for a jar which I bought in Paris de Galle for 39. They have a decent selection of caviar and I would have bought some, despite the high markup, if the saleswoman payed any attention. I haven't tried the caviar bar downstairs but the store near the lounge, which is pack and go, disappointed. For the markup, which is at least triple price, you really need to get off the cell and more on the sale!

The lady who helped me for foie gras was nice and helpful but when I went back for caviar, it was a nightmare. I asked the lady to show me the prices so my friends can pick, she put up the price list and Asim Aji (he refused to give me his name but I saw his name tag so he gave up) showed up and told her he would take care of the cashier. While I was waiting for my friends to message me which one she wants. He started teasing " Are you here just to look? Taking pictures? It is not to polite to just take pictures!" When I told him which one my friends want, he said it is out of stock. Due to his attitude before and there are so many containers in the display window, I unintentionally asked "Is it? But there are so many cans here? " He got angry and start shuffling the cans and made noise with those empty cans. And that's when I asked for his name and then he kept saying his name is not important...then I saw his name tag and requested to talk to the lady. After the lady came back, I asked the lady if it's out of stock and she said yes nice and professionally like all other people do and then I left. Thank you for caviar house prunier at Zurich airport, I ended this trip with a terrible memory.
