First off - a couple corrections for the Yelp description: (1) no issue bringing kids here; there were lots when I was there for an early (9pm) dinner.(2) They had more than beer and wine. They had basic bar rails and scotch, but maybe not your favorite brand (one of dining companions ordered jamieson, which was met by the offer of some peaty 12 year old Scotch. That seems a particularly dangerous game to play).
Overall a very nice dining experience, with good food in a beautiful setting. Font de Prades is one of the ten or so restaurants in the Poble Espanyol which has the feel of an old archeological find on a hill overlooking barcelona. Arrive early for your reservation so you walk around the Poble Espanyol and take in its scenic views and shopping. Your admission will be covered with your reservation.
As before, the food is good, not great. The starters were the highlights with the avocado, tomato, mozzarella salad being the clear standout. The wild mushroom pie is their stated house special, but it's decidedly average. The mains aren't great. Lots of carpaccios on the offer, but they should be skipped. Paella is probably the play here.
Everything else is done well. Good wine list and service was polite - albeit lacking on the English skills (which is fine and to be expected)
A really nice place to spend a night with friends. Dinner for 5 with 2 bottles of wine, pitcher of sangria and botto less glasses of vodka conyello came in just above 200 euros. Not bad at all. read more
