Very seriously: IF YOU ARE IN ALICANTE, Make SURE YOU EAT HERE!!!!…read more This is one of the places in the world where every simple aspect of what makes a restaurant work is perfectly taken care of, and is well assembled with the others. 1. Space 2. Service 3. Food 4. City 1. SPACE. 5 stars Nou Manolin is located in a beautiful and lively part of Alicante's historical center. On the ground floor, a large (and yet intimate) square bar occupies the entire floor. This is a bar where customers sit on a first come first served dynamic. Here you can informally eat out of tapas, that are served in a gracious and fun way. It is totally unpretentious, and totally sophisticated. This hall could not be more beautiful. No one single testaurant-Indra cliche to be found here. All pure eclecticism that reveals the long term existence of the establishment. So beautiful! The upper floor is more of a table serviced restaurant, beautifully decorated in a Mediterranean-design style, and with great care for impecable acoustics. The ceiling is made of a series of John Soane-like wooden domes, made to reduce sound reflection. Such a nice way to focus on the invisible part of design, so important to make a place the right place for a memorable dinner or lunch. 2. SERVICE. 5 stars This place másters a unique combination of professionalism and know-how with warmness and lack of pompousness. The result is truly nice. You truly feel welcomed here. And feels like being in the center of the world. . At the same time you feel the enthusiasm for food and wine. No way to resist. With this service: You will automatically become a believer in the power of Alicante's gastronomy . 3. FOOD. 5 stars. Now we get serious. The best tapas!!! The marinera is the best. Amazing fresh seafood. The bacalao buñuelos are a gastronomic chapter on its own. But above all that: do not miss the fideuá. This is the best fideuás I ever had. The fideo is soft and crispy. The flavors are intense and with a bit of a good-olive-oil- bitterness. The food here is indescribable. Just come to taste it. 4. CITY. 5 stars. Something needs to be said about this city Alicante that has beautifully managed to show how to be coastal and urban in a beautiful and meaningful way. But please, keep it secret; we don't want this to become a tourist mess like Barcelona. Ultimately, just come here.

The space is within the tradition of non-touristy restaurants in Alicante. Clean and with character, quite cared and unique in an unconventional and not conventionally beautiful way. Service is impecable and very professional. The only tension here resides in the fact that, right in the apartments up from this restaurant, are the Alicante headquarters of one of the worst populist far right, homophobic, misogynistic and racist Spanish political parties. Don't worry, the slab between the restaurant and that cauldron of putrefaction seems to be capable of preventing filtrations from up down. The arroz has proved not to be affected what-so-ever by the ugliness and vulgarity of the upper floor. These rices stand as a tasty testimony of the cultural and material richness that results from the melting of different cultures and the cross pollination brought by human migrations. It's incredible quality is a daily response against the hateful, ignorant and tasteless discourse and action produced in the sketchy apartments above this fantastic establishment.

A waiter took our drink order and let us know that the kitchen boss would be out soon to take our order. We ordered a salad and a rice dish for two - arroz a banda (seafood dish). It's a nice touch for the owner to take your order personally! Soon after, the waiter delivered two homemade croquetas and 2 generous slices of toast bathed in sweet local tomatoes - compliments of the house. Our mediterranean salad arrived shortly thereafter and was delicious - fresh everything, and huge chunks of tuna. The rice came soon after, delivered in a traditional paella pan, and was perfect. Not too fishy and just the right amount of flavor. There was one last surprise when the check arrived - an offer for an after-lunch liquor chupito (we chose limoncello) and two homemade little chocolate cookies - the perfect was to end a wonderful meal. I look forward to going back on my next visit to Altea! Note: if you want paella it has to be pre-ordered. All the food on the other tables looked amazing as well - a fine example of Mediterranean cooking at its finest.
