Deauville is a charming if totally tourism focused small city, with a bustling beach (not so much on the cold, damp day we visited in June) casinos, and an annual American film festival. This restaurant was stumbled upon by us and we five would recommend it highly. Its atmosphere is reserved and up-scale, nothing old Normandy about its appearance, but the food is delightfully prepared and politely served. Several dishes with local Norman flair, foundations could be found and each was thoroughly enjoyed as we shared bites of our lunch with our family of five. All agreed each offering was very good, but the layers of mackerel with grosgrain moustarde was a favorite as was the giant bowl of fresh tasting muscles! The wine list was almost extensive, and a bit on the steep side, but there were some bargains. Much enjoyed after a morning's visit to the nearby (a beautiful drive from) Bayeux and its famed embroided history lesson.
[we next visited Honfleur and it is possible that a less chic meal of a more vintage tradition might have been awaiting us there, but we just couldn't wait, so we stopped in Deauville] read more
