I had a reservation thankfully. 10 Pm was the only one I could get. Everything from that time and before was booked solid. We started with the spicy empanadas. Tenderloin beef. Outstanding. Next we opted for the 600 gram sirloin to share with potatoes, salad and provolone cheese baked. The cheese was a disaster, overcooked. My husband reckons this is the best steak he has had this week in Buenos Aires. I don't agree with him but it was good. I had Gin and tonic and sparkling water. Our waiter was Alexi. La Dorita was the biggest disappointment of the trip. Yeah, we have been to two star places but they were chain places or holes in the wall. This is three stars for one of the most famous and well regarded bodegones in Buenos Aires. La Dorita is the mother ship for a number of other "Dorita" family restaurants in the city. Their "Pescadorita" is right across the street from the original La Dorita And is an absolutely fantastic seafood place. The five star review of La Pescadorita is coming soon. We could have come on a bad day. (Our main everyday dining hall, La Dandy in Barrio Norte, is usually wonderful but has occasional awful days.) Or it could be that the mother ship is being neglected, while top management concentrates on the new places. That happens a lot with successful restaurants in my home city. I had a vacio which is a cut in the area we would call flank steak. Flank steak often needs a little marination for tenderness - but is usually an incredibly tasty cut of meat. My vacio was tough and tasteless. There is a stereotype of Latin American steaks which does not apply to Argentina. You order steak in Mexico or in Brazil or for that matter in France, you get a tough thin piece of inferior meat that eats like shoe leather. You get it down with sauces. Argentina is far far far above that. But my vacio was the same miserable piece of shoe leather I get in Mexican restaurants back home. (Okay, it was thicker and tenderer than the Mexican shoe leather stuff. It was still undistinguished and tasteless. And no - the issue is not that the steak was cooked to well done. Argentines are the leading experts in the world on how to serve tasty well done meat. Other well done beef I have had on this visit has been full of a rich beef stew kind of flavor.) My wife's fish was undistinguished, even though she had had legendary fish from the same La Dorita family across the street a few days previously. Sides were nothing to write home about. * * * La Dorita is a celebrated establishment, which is often mentioned in the same breath with two other great names in Porteno bodegones: Manolo and Barcelona Asturias. I am suspecting the place had a bad day, and that my vacio was mis-cooked. But I am not ruling out the neglected mother ship theory. Las Cabras - a celebrated parilla was everything advertised. Manolo and Barcelona Asturias are on my agenda. Let's hope the other famous bodegones keep their end up. read more

Buenos Aires is full of parillas, and we've found that they are all fairly similar in their greatness. Seriously, you can't go wrong with meat in this town, it is affordable, tasty and abundant. This is the only parilla we've been to for multiple occasions. The food is outstanding and the ambiance is great. Being in Argentina with our two-year old means that we often pick places that she will enjoy, and she loves La Dorita. She's also a big fan of the cow statue in front. This is my introduction to Argentinian asado! We got a lot of cuts of churrasco type meat with various sides. Meat first, one or two cuts were a bit tough and lacking flavor, while the baby beef was really good but fatty. As far as sides, anything potato (sweet or otherwise) was very solid. Grilled tomatos top notch. The free bread was very underwhelming. It's there to soak up meat juice but does not stand alone at all. My overall impression is not the hugest portions, not the best taste (tripe lacked seasoning, chimichurri was nearly tasteless), but some things totally hit, particularly a couple of cuts of steak and the sweetbreads. I would believe there is much better to be had in BA but it wasn't bad, service was good, and the place was nice overall. 3.5 stars. read more

Good pick if you're in the mood for a juicy steak. The staff was always quick and helpful. They accept credit cards, which to my surprise wasn't the case for some of their nextdoor competitors. La Dorita - Súper bife, serves two! - Steakhouses Near Me - Buenos Aires, C

There's a place on the corner of Humboldt and Costa Rica in Palermo called La Dorita which serves Argentinian cuisine, and as I was in the mood for one last chunk of local beef before I left (and also because it was one of the few places already open) I decided to give it a try. It's very colorful, with strings of multi colored fairy lights ganging over the front door and from the ceiling inside. They were playing Bob Marley too loud, but what the hell - I was desperate. Ordered a cocktail made with a local aperitif called Gancia and sparkling wine (90 pesos) which tasted a bit like a bitter version of an Aperol Spritz, but more bitter. Not in a bad way though. To eat I chose something from the Tablas Especiales called Tabla de Achuras - mollejas (veal sweetbreads), morcilla (Spanish version black pudding of course) and rinones (kidneys). Let the offal-fest begin!! The kidneys and sweetbread were both fried. The former had been cut into thin slices and had the expected rich, full bodied taste and were quite salty. Adding a little of the salsa that came on the side fixed this as well as adding a lovely complementary flavour. The sweetbreads were a little more subtle, slightly chewy, but very good. The morcilla was a whole sausage about an inch and a half thick and 4-5 inches long. The filling was moist - personally I would preferred it a little drier having grown up with English version of this dish - and very strong. Definitely the least favourite of the three and I only finished half of it. My first pass rated the rinones as the tastiest, but the more I ate the sweetbreads the more I liked them. Dorita is good; decent food without any pretensions, fast friendly service and at just over 300 pesos, reasonably priced without being a red hot bargain. There was a "cubierto mayores" of 22 pesos included in the bill. As far as I can tell this is an Argentinian "gimme" that covers the cost of the fork, knife, placemats, table cloth and bread they bought to the table at the beginning of the meal, so I considered that the tip. read more

Very good Asado. Not the best, but up there. A little overpriced, but it's a great location and the service is excellent.

Disappointed. Service was good and staff was pleasant, otherwise the rating would have been lower. Breads were bland. Caesar salad was saved by the flavorful crispy chicken. The lettuce was limp and dressing was pretty much nonexistent. I asked for a ribeye cooked medium and it came out to be well done. It's so odd to have a meat not even slight seasoned with salt, but I'm assuming it's more the culture of how meats are cooked here. My fries were also limp. My hubby had salmon which he was pretty happy with, but felt the same way I felt about the fries and salad. My recommendation wouldn't be whether to eat here or not. It would be to take caution on what you order and how it's cooked. If I would have known that I could have sent my food back, I would have. I found this out by seeing an older couple so this. It's a popular place to eat, but being popular doesn't always equal to being the best. read more

The fries were the worst I've eaten at any steakhouse and sent back for the mash potatoes which were a step above powered mash potatotes. You get it, save the trip.
