Having been to the previous incarnation of The Butchers Social pop-up in Harborne a few times, we…read morehad very high hopes for the new, permanent set up in Henley-in-Arden, on the other side of Birmingham (well, technically Warwickshire, but hey). Thankfully, it delivered on every level! Firstly, Henley is gorgeous. It's a mission from where we live and we've never been before, it's a properly quaint little town near Stratford with a lovely high street. We had a table at one of the windows and the view and people watching was superb. The new venue is also spot on. The interior decor is rustic and slightly vintage, with a modern edge (if that makes any sense). Its a big enough space as it goes through to a back room, which I imagine is rammed in the summer. I noticed they were advertising a comedy gig so it seems to have quickly established itself as a good entertainment venue in the area. It was busy without being too busy - always a good sign. The staff were friendly and the food and drinks came out in perfect time. And the food - wow. I went for the corned beef hash with fried egg (and a cheeky home made baked beans with beef to the side). Honestly one of the best brunches I've ever had. Crunchy and delicious on the outside, and the beef inside was incredibly soft and tasty. I also tried a bit of Ems eggs royale (standard) and it was creamy, light and delicious. The main menu looks very interesting too and we'll make the effort to come back and try it. They have a wide selection of wings, which we tried a few of back in the Harborne days, so we're assuming they'll still be as good as they were - especially the salted caramel wings!

This was a charming and well appointed pub in a beautiful town. We were driving through and stopped…read morefor a pint, only to find ourselves enjoying dinner. The pork belly lollipops and salted carmel wings were our favorite! We also admired amazing chips (fries) and ordered a second bowl. The happy hour was well priced and the beer selections were great. As an American we don't do wings anywhere near as nice as these! I am ruined!

This particular Pizza Express did not hit the mark for me on a recent visit. My partner and I split…read morean order of garlic bread that was very under seasoned, and lukewarm. Perhaps something was wrong with the oven, because I then tried the Funghi de Bosco on a Romana crust, which was not what I would call "crispy," nor was it hot. My partner's American Hot was cool as well. We sent both back to the kitchen for a warm-up, something we really shouldn't have to do at a chain so established as this. The pizza itself, much like the garlic bread, lacked flavor. Dessert was probably the highlight of the experience. My partner and I both ordered from the Dolcetti column of the menu, which includes mini desserts and a coffee. The Mini Chocolate Fudge Cake (really, a chocolate cupcake), was very nice, although ironically, I would have preferred it room-temperature. I was stunned by the number of families with loud, obnoxious children here on a Thursday night in April. While I find most children to be adorable, there are only so many renditions of "Happy Birthday" I can take, and the two-year-old at the table next to ours was determined to set the record. Our waitress was not what I would call "attentive," and so we had to flag other waitresses throughout the evening for additional glasses of wine or water, and for the check later on. The building itself, however, is very attractive. I wish the restaurant had seated us on the second level, which seemed much quieter and offered a lovely view. Overall, not the best Pizza Express I've experienced.

Service seems much better, and the old problem of repeatedly having the wrong order (happened 3 times in a row) seem to be a distant memory. A favourite haunt of the wifes, it's nice and convenient in the town centre, and we have been numerous times, with service and food consistently good.

The ice cream counter contained about twenty or thirty different flavours (ah-ha) of ice cream. I chose the cherry (it had a posher name that I can't remember). Pretty yummy. Also looked like there was an interesting selection of coffees, which I am aiming to pay more attention to on my next visit. I did notice the brand of coffee was Caffe Vero. Out the back was a small patio area, protected from the elements by a glass roof, very pleasant to sit here and eat my focaccia sandwich with a bottle of sparkling mineral water - all for £3.20! Evesham has just risen in my estimation.

Prices for a 9' pizza range from £3 to £3.50 (with an added £1 for a stuffed crust), and every topping you could ever wish for is readily available, as well as a myriad of reasonably-priced delicious side dishes (try the mozzarella dippers). A word of caution - although their menu claims 'free' delivery, these prices are ramped up considerable - pick your food up and use your savings to buy another pizza or three - you will thank me later. Although the Bristol Road, being at the heart of the student area of Selly Oak, has more takeaways you can shake a stick at, I feel I have some authority as a takeaway connoisseur to tell you if you have to choose one, make it Pizza Land.

One of the best food outlets in Selly Oak is Pizza Land, offering great pizzas at low prices and doing so with a high level of customer service. Toppings make a pizza and this place has an innumerable amount which means you can tailor your pizza to make it exactly how you like it. Places such as Dominos offer pizzas at extortionate prices and can often take an absolute age to be made and then delivered, there is no danger of that at Pizza Land and as such I believe it is a much better establishment than many main stream pizza chains. After a night at the pub then a pizza is a great late night treat to indulge in and this place is definitely the best parlour to pay a visit to.

I have visited many "Italian" Restaurants both in Italy & here in the UK and I have to say this is certainly in my top ten! Good food made from quality ingredients, with excellent service is never cheap (if cheap is what you want, there are many pub restaurants to choose from) La Nonna is reasonably priced for the standard of food & service you receive, you can pay a lot more elsewhere for a lot less!
