The cauliflower appetizer was delicious. For dinner I had the prime rib, baked potato and side of mushrooms, I ordered medium rare and it was perfect! Staff was friendly and our waiter, Dan was very knowledgeable on the wine list. We even had the opportunity to meet the owner Mr. Jones. Bert first name I think. The primary hostess was very accommodating and apologetic for the long wait after we were seated. Our server was very thoughtful, and was very informed about the food preparation. Ambiance: This is what keeps me from rating Gaskins a five star restaurant. It was so loud we were literally yelling at one another to try to carry on a conversation. We, three of us, were so looking forward to our dinner, but it was almost impossible to enjoy because of the difficulty we had communicating with one another.

There's also a fun seating area inside--a deep green overstuffed couch and matching chair (my photo doesn't do it justice). Outside is a patio area (in back). It's a hidden gem, this place! The atmosphere was friendly and comfortable and I still can't say enough about the staff. We had several of the servers stop by our table and give us their advice on what we needed to see while we were visiting. Defiantly a place we would visit again. I ordered the chile relleno and my friend ordered a tamale and some chicken taquitos. My friend endorses the taquitos and reported that they were flavorful and crunchy. Salsa and chips are complimentary and the salsa was pretty decent. The tamale was okay, but not the best she or I have ever had. As far as the chile relleno goes, the salsa was flavorful, but the batter was pretty soggy all around. The rice was flavorful and had a great texture to it, though the frijoles refritos tasted like they were possibly from a can or mass-produced. The beans felt and looked like soup. I also noticed that the shredded cheese placed on top of both the chile y tamale was not melted. When reheated, the cheese held its position. Several birthday parties were being celebrated in the restaurant while we were there, and the staff and owner made sure that the birthday party crowds were celebrated by clapping and singing which was sweet and made the whole place feel festive!
