So the subtitle of this place says "Filipino inspired pizzas"…read more.. I arrived around 7:30 on a Tuesday night for some pizza and a beer. Based on Yelp reviews and pics which showed the pizza. Ready to go all in on the Jeepney (out of curiosity. I've never actually been to the Philippines, so wouldn't have been able to judge). Bartender says, "um. We're pretty low on food" and proceeds to cover the entire bottom half of the menu (which is the pizza), leaving only the bar bites as available. So: heated up frozen pretzel was solid. And hot when delivered. The beer was tasty. Could prob warrant a fourth star for the space. But since I walked almost two miles for the pizza, and now have to solve separately for dinner, pretty disappointed. So was gonna do three stars. But Todd (the bartender) was super nice at the end, gave me the back story (busy weekend = no pizza), so redeemed the fourth star. Will prob go back to try the pizza. Just not on a Tuesday.

I was surprised how amazing this place is and how much fun I had exploring the history of Whittier. Although I knew that President Nixon was from Whittier, I still did not expect to see an entire display about his history in Whittier. It was also interesting and very well curated. I can't wait to come back one day for a Haunted Whittier Tour! Instead of donating money to the museum we loaded up on a couple souvenirs instead. This museum is definitely worth a few visits since the displays are constantly changing and evolving.

Many businesses open their doors for a rare peek inside their unique spaces; the art can be extraordinary (I.e. live glass blowing and live paintings); there's good food , music and entertainment; some venues raise many for good causes (i.e. children's hospital); they've added an augmented reality option to see large outdoor murals animate on your phone; and it's a festive atmosphere that builds community. You don't need to appreciate the art to have a good time. Just take a stroll and take it all in. Plus they have free shuttles. What's not to like? Go!

I cannot recommend Big Door Studios enough. We had an incredible experience working with Michaela…read moreand Terry while planning a party for about 100 people. Michaela responded to emails promptly, was extremely detail oriented, and supportive/reassuring during the entire process considering we were planning this party from out of state. If she didn't have an answer to a question, she was quick to get an answer or find us a resolution. They were open to allowing us to tour the space as much as needed and met with use on a video call to make things easier to plan. Terry and Alice felt like old friends. We were so lucky to have Terry on-site the day of the event, as he was able to manage all technology/sound system questions/concerns. Both assisted whenever needed and their calm demeanor helped buffer my anxiety! The space is perfect for any event, and the team at Big Door is amazing. We loved the versatility of the space, the indoor/outdoor flow, and the creativity it allowed us to have. Even the bathrooms were clean and well stocked with essentials. Thank you guys so much for making our event a party to remember!

Where to even begin with South Bay Customs? I was lucky enough to stumble upon this amazing gem…read morewhile searching for a non-traditional wedding reception venue. Last year I spent a good three months trying to find a spot that would suit us. I finally found SBC and I immediately fell in love with the photos online. When I called the owner, Michael, to inquire, he was friendly, straightforward, and explained everything I needed to know before booking their spot. To be clear, SBC is a million times easier to work with than just about every other venue I found up to that point. So many places had a laundry list of restrictions, requirements and downsides that I just couldn't swallow. SBC is as laid back, honest, and transparent as they come. Michael always made himself available to me and my day-of coordinator, as well as the other vendors (three food trucks, bartenders, tattoo artists, photographers, photo booth, band, security guards) who had questions. He even worked directly with our live band to ensure all of our sound was great and everything was in order. Although we had food trucks for guests to choose from, we ended up hiring Michael to do barbecue for the kids. His brisket is out of this world, and it was a huge hit. Our party lasted from 6:00 PM to midnight, and for all six of those hours, I swear just about every guest at the event came up to me at some point to gush about this venue. Everyone couldn't believe how cool and unique it was. "How did you find this place?!" was the question of the night. Everything about our party leaves me glowing. South Bay Customs could not have a more solid place in my heart if it tried. Every little detail is perfection, and I can't wait to come back for one of their comedy shows. Trust me, this is the venue you want to go with. The pictures don't even come close to doing it justice. If I could give it 10 stars I would!
