Michelin has a reputation for being tougher on American restaurants than European ones. I've been to many Michelin-starred restaurants in the U.S., and this was my first in Europe. It was a very good meal and a great experience, but based on this small sample size, the reputation might be true.
My wife and I went for lunch and ordered à la carte, though a tasting menu was also available. The interior was elegant, and the service was excellent--attentive and friendly. The menus were in Catalan, Spanish, and English. The staff, of course, spoke Catalan, but unlike some other restaurants in the area, they were happy to speak Spanish and English with us. Using a mixture of my Spanish and their English, communication was easy. Our server was incredibly kind and spent a long time talking with us about Catalonia--the pros and cons of living there, cultural and political topics--everything. We switched between Spanish and English, which made for a fun (and sometimes funny) conversation as we worked through more complex ideas.
The food was very tasty, but nothing groundbreaking. I walked in with high expectations, so I was slightly disappointed. My steak was a bit tough and lacked strong flavor, but that could just be a matter of Catalan cuisine not quite matching my palate.
Overall, it was a very nice experience with fantastic service, and I'd consider returning--though next time, I might try the tasting menu to get a better sense of what the kitchen can do. read more
