Pasta e Vino does it the right way and it shows. By having such a tight fresh pasta menu three items) they serve great pasta with very nice sauces. We went early, and on a Monday so seating was not an issue, the the tables that had reserved signs on them let us know this place fills up fast and it's not that big to begin with. It's a cool little space with a deli case right at the front so there is no hiding anything. Our two servers took great care of us, explained the menu and took our order. We both ordered the pasta carne with dirty pork and a red sauce. Tagliatelle was the pasta of the day, not sure if that changes or not. We also ordered house wine, red for me and white for the lovely K. The 1/8 litre 4 1/4 ounces for 3.5 euros wasn't expensive, but it also wasn't enough. You can order more (1/4 litre is 6 euros) which we would next time. The food came out hot and quickly and very nicely covered in Parmigiana Reggiano and was a good sized portion for 13.5 euros. Would we rave about it, probably not, but it was great!

My pasta carbonara wasn't the one I ordered (pomodoro - did I mention the lively atmosphere?) and didn't arrive until my companions were nearly finished eating, but it was outstanding - perfectly al dente, great flavor - I struggled to put my fork down. Luckily one of my dinner dates is the type that just flags any employee down as they are passing which ensured we got what we needed. I might make another stop here during my stay!

It was a group of 6, two ordered carbonara (which was very good), two ordered pizza (delicious), and one order a calzone. We repeatedly asked the status of our food and they just gave the same answer "it is coming very soon". Soon is used very loosely. Once all the food arrived, it was delicious, no complaints there. Service just is really lacking. If you want good food and lousy service this is the place to go. Not much more to say about it: As my brother commented, they "did the job," i.e. gave us energy in the form of carbs to brave a hot, touristy (but still beautiful!) day in Salzburg. The gnocchi al formaggio was better (4/5 stars), in a gorgonzola sauce and topped with toasted pine nuts. Kind of heavy on a hot day for lunch, but that was my own fault. If you like gorgonzola, you'll like it, probably. The service was really fast and the food came out quickly but the waiter basically forced me to pick an entree on the spot/picked one for me (Him: *sees me on gnocchi page of menu* Gnocchi? With cheese? Me: Uhh.....sure!") and did the same sort of thing with my dad. This worked out alright for us, but just be aware, you may need to be assertive. Overall, an okay place for lunch during a day trip to Salzburg.

Even a middle-sized Pizza is enormous, so if you don't plan on having about half a Pizza for takeaway or wanna have lunch and dinner at the same time, take a small Pizza. In matters of taste, the Pizza was delicious, though I have to admit that in the end, even though I carried about half of it home, I undeniably overfed in the aftermath. Istra is actually a Croatian restaurant, and they specialize in seasonal grilled seafood and truffle pasta. There is no standard menu - more a choice of 1, 2 or 3 course meal. The owners don't speak a lot of English but they were very hospitable. I highly recommend reading through their websites before going so you know what to expect. Now the food. Spectacular is the only word that came to mind. First time we just had the fish platter for 2 and shared between 3 people. A luxurious platter with 2 perfectly pan-fried fish, 2 shrimps in shell and 2 grilled baby calamari on a bed of carrots, squash, zucchini and mushrooms magically turned up at the table. It was so good we went back for lunch again the next day. This time we also ordered their truffle pasta. The white truffle on the pasta was epic - appetizer size was obly €18!!
