The front of the restaurant is the fish store, so you can see what's on the menu before diving in; talk about fresh. One of the top dining spots in St. Florent. We had oysters and tuna tartare to start with - both were god, but lacked some of the finer details. The tuna tartare lacked seasoning, and the oysters were not loosened (if that is the correct term), which is no tradgedy, but still somewhat vexing. The main courses we had - tuna steak and tiger prawns with tomato and olive oil sauce and mashed potatoes with ginger, were excellent, especially the prawns. For dessert, we had the lemon tart and the goat cheese ice cream with myrte gel - thw latter was truly a revellation. Service was attentive, as you would expect from this kind of upscale place, but some of the waiters could do with a course in serving wines. At the prices they have, L'Auberge du Pecheur needs to get the details right.

A seafood restaurant that is trying to go the extra mile, but just missing the mark…read more This place have a focus on seafood but also serve sallads and meat, so even someone not being a seafood lover will have a good selection of food. The place looks very fancy, but no real dress code seems to apply, so don't be scared off! Had the tuna tartar for starter which was very good and presented in a beautiful way. Then the lobster risotto for main and that unfortunately had ever so slightly undercooked rice and a lobster that was a bit dry. The dessert was the biggest disappointment - chocolate mousse that was just thrown into a bowl without any finesse and that tasted just like the kind you make yourself from powder from the supermarket. Most things on the menu (from starter to dessert) will work fine for us with gluten intolerance and following fodmap (IBS diet) as the focus is on seafood. Service was a bit stressed and the flow of things was not on their side. The waiter however recognized this without us even commenting and deducted our aperitif and coffee from the bill. The service we did get was very good though, so I would say that we caught them either on a exceptionally stressful night and/or they we're understaffed. A big plus that they have a guy that comes to your table to show you the food they'll be cooking you when ordering fish or lobster for example. Very nice touch! Over all a nice dinner in a nice restaurant, but I would not join the quire of people speaking of it as one of the best places ever. If you want fresh seafood at a fairly good price this is the place for you though.

We had tomato and shrimp on crostini, it was so perfectly flavored the tomato and shrimp were the star! The salmon with crostini was another star! The name translates to Sea Tavern and it delivers, feels like you are in a tall ship stateroom for your meal. Several tables with their own intimate areas. The service was great, while we speak minimal Italian, we got by and had a great experience Highly recommend

A quick yelp search and we found Osteria del Mare. The restaurant is small and quaint. The service is friendly and relatively quick. Some English spoken. We managed between our weak Italian and their weak English and good Spanish. It looked like every table had the mixed seafood salad as an appetizer. Check. Giant bowl of mussels, clams, langostines, and oysters. Just get it. The Shrimp gnocchi were awesome. Homemade gnocchi that were creamy with beautiful garlicy cream sauce and super fresh shrimp. The seafood stew was the show stopper though. I was expecting a whimsy bowl of soup. Instead I got no less than 3-4 lbs of super fresh mixed seafood in a spicy tomato based broth. I looked at the waiter and asked if he left anything in the ocean. He didn't speak English but laughed and handed me a bib. Haha! There may be better food in Livorno, but this town was one and done for us. In the end it was one of the best meals of our vacation.

The food was good but not excellent: for example, in the tuna tartare the flavor of the capers overwhelmed that of the tuna itself instead of enhancing it. Similarly, the "spaghetti al riccio" were good but not memorable. The very extensive wine list was surprisingly lacking of a local wines: more french wines and champagnes than wines from Isola d'Elba or even Tuscany. Anyway, personally I like tasting "farm-to-fork" or local foods whenever possible. However, that's a choice of the owner ... I guess they feel differently. One minor flaw that turned me off is when I asked for a local "amaro" to finish my dinner, the waiter stated "we don't have any local amaros: they are too commercial". This rubbed me the wrong way, there's no reason to put others down and also I tasted some perfectly nice amaros "of the house" in other restaurants. Overall, the location was nice although not easy to reach due to the super narrow road to get there, the food was good but not "to die for", the price way steeper than other restaurants on the island (with better food), and the service was attentive but a little too pretentious. I doubt that I'll go back
