The front of the restaurant is the fish store, so you can see what's on the menu before diving in; talk about fresh. One of the top dining spots in St. Florent. Excellent Corsican wine list; with our fish I enjoyed the light, affordable, lemony, minerally Vin blanc -- Clos Marfisi Inseme Patrimonio which is cultivated nearby. (What grows together goes together.) You will have a great evening! I certainly hope to return.

We had oysters and tuna tartare to start with - both were god, but lacked some of the finer details. The tuna tartare lacked seasoning, and the oysters were not loosened (if that is the correct term), which is no tradgedy, but still somewhat vexing. The main courses we had - tuna steak and tiger prawns with tomato and olive oil sauce and mashed potatoes with ginger, were excellent, especially the prawns. For dessert, we had the lemon tart and the goat cheese ice cream with myrte gel - thw latter was truly a revellation. Service was attentive, as you would expect from this kind of upscale place, but some of the waiters could do with a course in serving wines. At the prices they have, L'Auberge du Pecheur needs to get the details right.

The food was good but not excellent: for example, in the tuna tartare the flavor of the capers overwhelmed that of the tuna itself instead of enhancing it. Similarly, the "spaghetti al riccio" were good but not memorable. The very extensive wine list was surprisingly lacking of a local wines: more french wines and champagnes than wines from Isola d'Elba or even Tuscany. Anyway, personally I like tasting "farm-to-fork" or local foods whenever possible. However, that's a choice of the owner ... I guess they feel differently. One minor flaw that turned me off is when I asked for a local "amaro" to finish my dinner, the waiter stated "we don't have any local amaros: they are too commercial". This rubbed me the wrong way, there's no reason to put others down and also I tasted some perfectly nice amaros "of the house" in other restaurants. Overall, the location was nice although not easy to reach due to the super narrow road to get there, the food was good but not "to die for", the price way steeper than other restaurants on the island (with better food), and the service was attentive but a little too pretentious. I doubt that I'll go back
