Omg, omg!! So me and my husband came here to eat, this is our usual place for Mexican Food! My husband has been going here since he was a Child, he introduced me to this restaurant and I came to also fall in love with it as well! On July 23, 2021 that all CHANGED!!! Me and the hubby walk in and get seated, we order the usual the Carne Asada Meal! They bring our chips and beans out which we ate and enjoyed, we ordered our food and also some Jalapeño poppers!! Soon... our food came out, and we proceeded to start to eat, my husband opens his tortilla tray! And out comes a LIVE ROACH!!!!!!!! We are so shocked!!! We proceeded to throw up and called the waitress and manager over! They asked " oh what is it"!? We screamed it's a ROACH IN OUR FOOD! my husband has a Phobia of Roaches like who doesn't!!!! Right!? But no, his Phobia is really bad when it comes to roaches!!! So we proceeded to leave!!! And we will NEVER COME BACK!!!! One of my favorites. Hubby gets the chimichanga, I get cheese enchiladas and/or chili relleno. The complimentary chips and salsa comes with a warm refried beans. The services was awesome. Don't eat here if you're looking for authentic Mexican food. The problem was having frozen mixed vegetables, such as green beans, lima beans, carrots and corn in the rice, which was inside our burrito. It was disgusting and reminded me of cafeteria food from 6th grade. Not close to authentic Mexican food. When we had an issue with our entrées, our server explained "that's just how it is" and asked for help from another employee, who said "yeah that's how it is, sorry" and both WALKED away. Only after she heard us saying we were upset and unhappy, she offered to make another dish. It would have been nice to have the uneaten burrito taken off our check, but that wasn't offered. We got here at 7:30 on a Saturday night, but was surprised to find that this place was like going to Chuck-a-Rama during the 4:30 dinner rush; the clientele was every retired white couple in Utah. When I asked our waitress if the Chile Verde was spicy, she (no lie!) told me to 'Look around you- NOTHING on the menu is spicy.' I ended up ordering the Chile Verde burrito anyway and was disappointed to find she was right. Not only did it not have ANY spice to it, it was bland- almost like a boring tomato sauce, except green and had pork in it. It was okay, but it certainly wasn't worth the high price they charged for it. Mexican food is supposed to be cheap and delicious- this was neither. All in, we left having spent over $50 for the dinner, and it was nothing more than mediocre- we definitely regretted that decision and unfortunately, determined not to go back. read more

When she wanted to take our order, I wasn't quite ready, so I told my husband to go ahead 1st to give me a few minutes, but when he started to give her his order, she raised her voice and said, in no uncertain terms, "NO, the lady orders 1st!" YES, MA'AM... When our fajitas came to the table we asked for more salsa for them. She was obviously put out at the request and we never got it until we asked another server near the end of our meal. A two-minute walk brings us to La Costa. We've had several good-quality meals here. The complimentary chips with house-made salsa and bean dip both had a nice little kick with good flavors and textures. The smothered burrito and the chili verde burrito both had fairly tender pork with a tasty undertone of tomatillo. Likewise the chili colorado had a well flavored tomatoey sauce and a good quality beef. But the fish tacos... For a restaurant calling itself La Costa, one expects quality fish! These looked tired and flat, had an ill smell, and one taste told me to discretely spit it out. I just don't feel very good about this place now. Convenience doesn't seem worth the risk. read more

For a Mexican restaurant in Sandy it's not all That bad. I say this becouse when it comes to Mexican food here in salt lake or Utah county there's not a lot of places that meet true mark. So I ordered the Chile Reno's and they came out as more chilie Reno omlets but they were still decent and the rice and beans were good as well. We've been patronizing this restaurant for years and have developed expectations as to the quality of food that we get. Tonight was a disappointment; almost everything we can remember about LaCosta is changed. The salsa, the beans offered with the chips - not up to their past quality. We had one meal of flautas which was good, and another of carnitas which was not. Carnitas are supposed to be a meal of meat braised until tender; the beef steak slices resembled the texture of a racquetball, smothered in an intensely flavored sauce of onions, tomatoes and hot peppers. Mmmmmm. We love this place and always order the same things. I get cheese enchiladas. Their enchilada sauce is this buttery, savory, warm sauce that I LOVE. My husband gets a chimichanga and it's always fried to perfection. They also have a great bar with some yummy tequilas. The ONLY reason I didn't give 5 stars is that it's not always consistent. One of their chefs NAILS the food beyond expectations every time. Every other time It's very good. The service is great, and the managers are super cool though. Wonderful!!! My Chile Rellano had a strange, thin omelet around a cold chile and unmelted cheese with canned tomato sauce on top. (Yes, the omelet should have been the batter that it gets coated in, but it was maybe thrown on the griddle for 30 seconds) It most certainly had only seen the fryer from my plate on it's way out the door. My husband's beef enchilada was simply some dry meat wrapped in a tortilla with a tablespoon of the same canned mild tomato sauce on top. Not even enchilada sauce!! I have also never had Spanish rice with (obviously) frozen carrots and peas in it. So gross, and no flavor! We were obviously displeased and asked for the check after eating only a few bites. Our server did not seem surprised, even after we declined his offer of to-go boxes. His manager gave us a $2.70 discount on a $35 check, without us asking for one. We came here cuz it was close to our place and my husband wanted Chili Verde.... WORST DECISION EVER!! How do you call yourself a Mexican restaurant and have canned pork in your chili verde? Did I really just eat the blandest most basic, non Mexican like substance? Oh did i mention they serve mexican coke but it's mini bottles they charge $3.99 for? We went to have dinner with our friends and was soooo dissapointed! The tacos I had were filled with steak only, they looked like they had been pan-fried and were very greasy. They had nothing inside except greasy tough steak. No Sour cream and a very small scoop of guacamole on the side. No salsa. The rice was tasteless and looked like they just cooked the rice and added some frozen peas and carrots. If Yelp had half-stars I'd give La Costa. 4 1/2. I've been here several times and it has been consistently the best Mexican food experience I've had in Utah. The service is very good. Maybe not always overtly friendly, but always very professional and never bad. Ambience is comfortable and authentic. There is usually a soccer game on the TV in the bar The food is well prepared and tasty. I always have one of the combos and everything I've had is very good. The salsa is a bit on the mild side (I prefer spicier) but also very tasty. The margaritas are well made and not too sweet. I can actually taste the ingredients rather than an over-sugary mix that is common at a lot of places. If you like Mexican, I highly recommend. read more

I walked in at 9:55pm and they welcomed me with a smile. Excellent greeting. Water and chips and salsa and excellent home made bean dip served immediately. Great wait staff and service. I ordered the two enchiladas plate - one cheese and one shredded beef which both were flavorful. Rice was cooked well. And of course great beans. Lots of cheese provided which was welcomed. Nice decor throughout restaurant and it was clean. I will be back. Ice tea was good but would be better if they brewed their tea. Another good tip would be to upgrade their napkins. I have eaten at la Costa several times. They have quite a few options besides the basics. The chips and salsa also comes with a bean dip that you can dip separately or together. I have tried the smothered burrito and the la Costa tacos. The Chile Verde is very tasty. The la Costa tacos are a soft corn she'll tacos with a Parmesan coating. Everything I have tried has been very good. All the food has come out very hot and all the cheese is melted and gooey. The prices are a little higher than other places but this is still a very nice place. They have a bar in the rear of the restaurant if you would like drinks. read more

They start everyone off with fresh tortilla chips, house made salsa and beans. Their menu has tons of options and everything is very authentic. I had the Carna Asada plate ($15), the wife had Chicken Tequitos($13), and my boy had the kids meal soft taco($5). All three meals were a ton of food, including rice and beans. All the food was absolutely delicious. None of us could think of one thing bad to say about the food. In addition to the food, the service was top notch. Chips and water as soon as we were seated followed by drink order. When drinks were dropped off food order was taken. Within 15 minutes of being seated our food was brought out. They don't list the different kind of margaritas (besides picking your type of tequila) or what kind of beers they have. They don't have Michelada's but they will put the spicy salt on the rim of your cup. The chips and salsa are very good. I like spice and they brought out spicy salsa and that was indeed spicy and delicious. I did like that they bring out refried beans with the chips and salsa also. My girlfriend got a strawberry margarita. It was yummy. My entree though. Disappointing...... This is what I ordered: Spinach & Black Bean Burrito Flour tortilla, spinach, black beans, sweet corn, mushrooms, sauce, melted jack cheese, lettuce and tomato $9.50 I don't recall anything but spinach, onions and black beans in the burrito. That was a bummer. Also, the burrito was smothered in enchilada sauce. Another bummer, i didn't want that. I a little over half of it as delivered and then just scooped out the insides of the burrito and ate it with my rice. I was looking for a refreshing veggie burrito and did not get it.
