Understaffed, unattentive employees, mediocre food. Used to come here often but I think I'm done unfortunately.

Fabulous margaritas!! Wonderful staff! Professional and friendly. The food was great! I had the pork carnitas, will definitely return! read more

This place is always delicious every time we come. We also love the drink options including on tap beer and margaritas. It's family friendly, too! read more

I was really happy with the carne asada plate, and everyone seemed really happy with their Cadillac Margaritas.

Omg, omg!! So me and my husband came here to eat, this is our usual place for Mexican Food! My husband has been going here since he was a Child, he introduced me to this restaurant and I came to also fall in love with it as well! We always told people are great they are and we have even taken a couple of our friends here too eat, and it has also been so wonderful, and the food absolutely amazing! On July 23, 2021 that all CHANGED!!! Me and the hubby walk in and get seated, we order the usual the Carne Asada Meal! They bring our chips and beans out which we ate and enjoyed, we ordered our food and also some Jalapeño poppers!! Soon... our food came out, and we proceeded to start to eat, my husband opens his tortilla tray! And out comes a LIVE ROACH!!!!!!!! We are so shocked!!! We proceeded to throw up and called the waitress and manager over! They asked " oh what is it"!? We screamed it's a ROACH IN OUR FOOD! my husband has a Phobia of Roaches like who doesn't!!!! Right!? But no, his Phobia is really bad when it comes to roaches!!! So we proceeded to leave!!! And we will NEVER COME BACK!!!! Please please never go to this restaurant they have roaches and are very unsanitary! We did call the health department so I'm hoping they get shut down for this!!!! read more

Love it Chile Verde it is the best the food is really good .. I can buy it to go they walked me out , two of the employees walked me to my car .. read more

One of my favorites. Hubby gets the chimichanga, I get cheese enchiladas and/or chili relleno. The complimentary chips and salsa comes with a warm refried beans. The services was awesome. One person brought water out as soon as we were seated and made sure our water and drinks glasses remained full. Another person kept our chips and salsa baskets full. The food was great. read more

food is ok but kinda dry and the music is so loud it gives me a headache. Tamales Cheese Enchiladas read more

They have hit the trifecta of bland food, crazy high prices and slow service. I ordered a carne asada enchilada and the single was $16 so I figured it must be large, double order was 18. I got a Tiny little sad sorry excuse of a meal, maybe 1 ozs of meat meet with cold beans and a truly weird rice. Pass this place for somewhere that has a spice rack read more

Don't eat here if you're looking for authentic Mexican food. The problem was having frozen mixed vegetables, such as green beans, lima beans, carrots and corn in the rice, which was inside our burrito. It was disgusting and reminded me of cafeteria food from 6th grade. Not close to authentic Mexican food. When we had an issue with our entrées, our server explained "that's just how it is" and asked for help from another employee, who said "yeah that's how it is, sorry" and both WALKED away. Only after she heard us saying we were upset and unhappy, she offered to make another dish. It would have been nice to have the uneaten burrito taken off our check, but that wasn't offered. HOW DO YOU WALK AWAY AS A SERVER? read more

For a Mexican restaurant in Sandy it's not all That bad. I say this becouse when it comes to Mexican food here in salt lake or Utah county there's not a lot of places that meet true mark. So I ordered the Chile Reno's and they came out as more chilie Reno omlets but they were still decent and the rice and beans were good as well. Staff and atmosphere were pretty nice we sat out on the patio which was really nice. read more

We got here at 7:30 on a Saturday night, but was surprised to find that this place was like going to Chuck-a-Rama during the 4:30 dinner rush; the clientele was every retired white couple in Utah. When I asked our waitress if the Chile Verde was spicy, she (no lie!) told me to 'Look around you- NOTHING on the menu is spicy.' I ended up ordering the Chile Verde burrito anyway and was disappointed to find she was right. Not only did it not have ANY spice to it, it was bland- almost like a boring tomato sauce, except green and had pork in it. It was okay, but it certainly wasn't worth the high price they charged for it. Mexican food is supposed to be cheap and delicious- this was neither. All in, we left having spent over $50 for the dinner, and it was nothing more than mediocre- we definitely regretted that decision and unfortunately, determined not to go back. read more

I like this place. The food is good and is able to walk the fine line between too authentic to be relatable comfort food for an American and not being too Americanized. Does that make sense? Service is good. People are nice. Large space for seating with good barriers to make me feel I have some privacy. read more

The service was ok to good. The prices on the high side. The food was hot and fresh and good. Not a good value for the money though, a little sparse on the plate! I will return there tho and that says it all. read more

YIKES!! Our server, Vania, was Trenchbull @ Best! You know, from Matilda! When she wanted to take our order, I wasn't quite ready, so I told my husband to go ahead 1st to give me a few minutes, but when he started to give her his order, she raised her voice and said, in no uncertain terms, "NO, the lady orders 1st!" YES, MA'AM... When our fajitas came to the table we asked for more salsa for them. She was obviously put out at the request and we never got it until we asked another server near the end of our meal. We used to LOVE coming here, but NOTHING about it is the same. There are so many other great choices around, don't settle. read more

A two-minute walk brings us to La Costa. We've had several good-quality meals here. The complimentary chips with house-made salsa and bean dip both had a nice little kick with good flavors and textures. The smothered burrito and the chili verde burrito both had fairly tender pork with a tasty undertone of tomatillo. Likewise the chili colorado had a well flavored tomatoey sauce and a good quality beef. But the fish tacos... For a restaurant calling itself La Costa, one expects quality fish! These looked tired and flat, had an ill smell, and one taste told me to discretely spit it out. I just don't feel very good about this place now. Convenience doesn't seem worth the risk. read more

Just an okay place The food is kind of okay , it's on a plate but no soul to it. Salsa is okay Wait staff very nice Would I go back probably not The place is so dated and really dirty , the ceiling is covered in dirt The furnishings are just 1980. read more

We've been patronizing this restaurant for years and have developed expectations as to the quality of food that we get. Tonight was a disappointment; almost everything we can remember about LaCosta is changed. The salsa, the beans offered with the chips - not up to their past quality. We had one meal of flautas which was good, and another of carnitas which was not. Carnitas are supposed to be a meal of meat braised until tender; the beef steak slices resembled the texture of a racquetball, smothered in an intensely flavored sauce of onions, tomatoes and hot peppers. Not at all what I expected. I would not/will not order it again. Apparently the place has changed ownership and from my perspective, it is not an improvement. read more

La Costa used to be one of our favorites. It has totally gone down hill. Their chips taste burnt, or like like they have not changed their oil in years. The prices have increased while the quality of the food decreased. They really need to up their game. read more

This place was AWFUL! The servers and host were nice, the chips and salsa were good. That's it. Our food was disgusting. My Chile Rellano had a strange, thin omelet around a cold chile and unmelted cheese with canned tomato sauce on top. (Yes, the omelet should have been the batter that it gets coated in, but it was maybe thrown on the griddle for 30 seconds) It most certainly had only seen the fryer from my plate on it's way out the door. My husband's beef enchilada was simply some dry meat wrapped in a tortilla with a tablespoon of the same canned mild tomato sauce on top. Not even enchilada sauce!! I have also never had Spanish rice with (obviously) frozen carrots and peas in it. So gross, and no flavor! We were obviously displeased and asked for the check after eating only a few bites. Our server did not seem surprised, even after we declined his offer of to-go boxes. His manager gave us a $2.70 discount on a $35 check, without us asking for one. That was nice, but doesn't make up for the absolute slop that they are passing as Mexican food! I highly suggest looking elsewhere if you're in the mood for Mexican. read more

Mmmmmm. We love this place and always order the same things. I get cheese enchiladas. Their enchilada sauce is this buttery, savory, warm sauce that I LOVE. My husband gets a chimichanga and it's always fried to perfection. They also have a great bar with some yummy tequilas. The ONLY reason I didn't give 5 stars is that it's not always consistent. One of their chefs NAILS the food beyond expectations every time. Every other time It's very good. The service is great, and the managers are super cool though. Wonderful!!! Also, their salsa and bean dip are so good we usually get huge tubs to go. I event spent some of COVID quarantine trying to figure out the recipe for the salsa. I never quite got it though. Mmmmm. read more

We came here cuz it was close to our place and my husband wanted Chili Verde.... WORST DECISION EVER!! How do you call yourself a Mexican restaurant and have canned pork in your chili verde? Did I really just eat the blandest most basic, non Mexican like substance? Oh did i mention they serve mexican coke but it's mini bottles they charge $3.99 for? The place was dead so that should have been my first clue. Lesson learned, what a waste of money, service was ok at best for what it was. They should not be in business anymore.... We would have been better off at the Rancheritos on the corner! read more

We went to have dinner with our friends and was soooo dissapointed! The tacos I had were filled with steak only, they looked like they had been pan-fried and were very greasy. They had nothing inside except greasy tough steak. No Sour cream and a very small scoop of guacamole on the side. No salsa. The rice was tasteless and looked like they just cooked the rice and added some frozen peas and carrots. The chips and salsa, if you can call it that they served before the dinner came, were not fresh and looked like the chips I have purchased at the grocery store, the salsa was a watery mixture of what I have no idea! The service was slow, and we were the only ones in there. It was 4pm. Expensive for this poor quality. Never again. read more

If Yelp had half-stars I'd give La Costa. 4 1/2. I've been here several times and it has been consistently the best Mexican food experience I've had in Utah. The service is very good. Maybe not always overtly friendly, but always very professional and never bad. Ambience is comfortable and authentic. There is usually a soccer game on the TV in the bar The food is well prepared and tasty. I always have one of the combos and everything I've had is very good. The salsa is a bit on the mild side (I prefer spicier) but also very tasty. The margaritas are well made and not too sweet. I can actually taste the ingredients rather than an over-sugary mix that is common at a lot of places. If you like Mexican, I highly recommend. read more

If you like frozen mixed veggies in your Mexican rice, then this is your spot. I personally do not like green beans and lima beans and carrots in my burritos and when I told the server as much she told me that it's always been that way and handed me the check and walked away. I walked in at 9:55pm and they welcomed me with a smile. Excellent greeting. Water and chips and salsa and excellent home made bean dip served immediately. Great wait staff and service. I ordered the two enchiladas plate - one cheese and one shredded beef which both were flavorful. Rice was cooked well. And of course great beans. Lots of cheese provided which was welcomed. Nice decor throughout restaurant and it was clean. I will be back. Ice tea was good but would be better if they brewed their tea. Another good tip would be to upgrade their napkins. Thank you again for taking me at that late in night. read more

Worst Mexican food tasted like they went to the grocery store and warmed it up no flavor what so ever

I have eaten at la Costa several times. They have quite a few options besides the basics. The chips and salsa also comes with a bean dip that you can dip separately or together. I have tried the smothered burrito and the la Costa tacos. The Chile Verde is very tasty. The la Costa tacos are a soft corn she'll tacos with a Parmesan coating. Everything I have tried has been very good. All the food has come out very hot and all the cheese is melted and gooey. The prices are a little higher than other places but this is still a very nice place. They have a bar in the rear of the restaurant if you would like drinks. read more

I am practicing writing sentences. We dined at La Costa. We were seated promptly. The seats were bright and rosy, comfy and cozy yoo hoo. Our waiter was courteous, kind, and informative. He had a neatly trimmed beard. La Costa gives you free "heated" chips, salsa, and home-made bean dip. I ate a lot of the appetizer. I think its all you can eat. The appetizer pleased my stomach. All you can eat appetizers are always welcomed when I dine out. There is a patio where you can enjoy the weather. Some meteorologists aren't accurate. Our food came so fast I thought we were at a fast food restaurant. The played Spanish/Hispanic/Mexican music while we ate. Do you think its possible to dance the Salsa, with salsa? I ordered a 2 enchilada platter. It came with 1 chicken, 1 sunrise with rice and beans. I would like to make out with my dinner it was that good. I felt fat after I ate it. My girlfriend ordered a chile verde burrito with rice and beans. It made her happy. She felt fat after she ate it. The portion sizes at La Costa are VERY generous. If you are still hungry after eating there you are probably eating too much. You might feel fat after eating at La Costa. The price is competitive. I would probably say average. We paid $25 (I think) including the tip. The post dinner mints leave a good taste in your mouth. They are "cinna" mints. I will return to La Costa again and again.
