The restaurant is gorgeous - very indoor/outdoor eating and traditional decor/design. Our guide told us it can get very busy (it's very popular), but we got lucky and got a great table on a Friday afternoon with no wait at all. The service was also great. The menu is traditonal Yucatecan, and I wanted pretty much everything on the menu. The menu contains notations for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and circular dishes (circular means "dishes that do not generate any waste when their residues are used as compost, recycled, or sold"). It has something for everyone, and you can tell that everyone involved in the restaurant really cares about the preservation and sharing of Yucatecan cuisine! We shared the Sikil P'ak (a dip made from ground pumpkin seeds, tomatoes, cilatro, and chives), which I always love - Kinich's version was great. I ordered the Papadzules Tradicionales (tacos filled with hardboiled eggs, wrapped in handmade tortillas, that are then bathed in a ground pumpkin seed sauce and tomato sauce) and a glass of wine from Casa Madera, while my husband ordered the Venado Almendrado (shredded whitetail venison, cooked in the pib, underground oven, and sauteed in a sauce made with almonds, chile de arbol, achiote, sweet chile, and onions) and a cocktail. The food was fantastic. Some of the best Yucatecan food we had on this trip! A really lovely meal. One I'd be happy to repeat if I'm ever in Izamal again!

Indoor n outdoor seating .. recommend grabbing an umbrella table outside and taking in the sites, sounds n people watching (depending on where you sit - you may be visited by an occasional local (your friend) inquiring if you'd like to buy a boot leg DVD, bakery item, jewelry ++). The beer is cold and opened table side and the Mexican food is simple, flavorful n authentic! (The prices are ridiculously cheap and the service is stellar - be nice and tip generously ;-) Ps - if needed, they have nice restroom.

The Bars and Restaurants have tables on the street in a sidewalk cafe type setting. I have been stopping here on every trip to Progresso. The immediate place as you enter the street area, is Panco Villa Restaurant. You are greeted offer a menu along with the cost of the beverages, Margaritas 2 for $5 or beer for $1. I must say, the margaritas are made traditional, squeezed lime, triple sec, bar syrup, and tequila and in a real glass, not a plastic cup. I had several items to eat, one was the shrimp cocktail, Mexican style, very delicious and then I had the Devil Shrimp, sometimes referred to as Camarones el Diablo. They will prepare to any degree of heat that you want. So, if you are cruising through Progresso, give this place a stop for food or just a drink. Ask for Sergio.

Wow, where to start…read more.... Well, if you find yourself lucky enough to be visiting Yucatán you have to stop at this restaurant located in the sleepy town of Tixkokob located approximately 15-20 minutes outside of Merida. Yeah it's a bit out of the way but if you want the best cochinita pibil in the state, dare I say- the country of Mexico- this is the spot. Sure there are other spots in or near Merida but hands down this was my favorite. We were heading back to Merida from a day trip to the town of Isamal and had planned our early super to be here. The restaurant itself is a jewel located in the town and once you walk into the restaurant you feel as if this restaurant can be in any major metropolis with vast quantities of 5 star restaurants. The restaurant is beautifully decorated both inside and outside- if you have a chance take a walk around the outer patio and see where the ovens are located where they made your meal. Now the food! Well let me say that if I could have eaten the metal tray that the order of cochinita pibil came on I would have done so! The pork was very flavorful and moist and the consome (broth) which is from the pig itself was so delicious. Fresh corn tortillas come with the order as well. I didn't want this experience to end but there is only so much goodness one can handle. We also had the guacamole and the mofongo to start and share. These were also tasty. All around the service (as with every other place we visited in Yucatán) was top notch with the friendliest of people. The hostess also gave us a tour of the grounds and explained the history of the location. Side note: as we finished our meal and we're preparing to leave the Mexican singer, Yuri, showed up with her entourage. :)
