I have tried everything on his menu (or not menu because there have been occasions when I walk in and say, "What do you have?" and he makes something incredible. I dont know what magic goes into this food but its all unreal and just delicious. I love sandwiches so when I discovered that Home of Fresh Pasta also sold sandwiches, I wanted to give them a try. My husband and I shared a roast beef sandwich ($10.25). You get to choose your toppings and we got lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, spicy eggplant and mustard (the other 2 available toppings we didn't get were hot peppers and mayo). The bread was fresh and warm. In fact, it just came out of the oven. The bread was long, but very skinny, so the sandwich was actually on the small side by my standards. They were not all that generous with the toppings either, in my opinion. So while the ingredients tasted good, it did not feel like a substantial sandwich to me. The person making my sandwich was also not wearing gloves and was the same person handling the cash register. The store sells lots of Italian products, frozen, refrigerated and shelf-stable. One of the last days in Ottawa, my coworkers decided to take me to pho for lunch. After a fruitless search for some other spot on another street that ended up to not be open that day, we ended up here. Now, I only had their pho ga (chicken noodle soup) here but I saw everyone else's pho tai and it looked great too. My pho ga here was as good as any bowl I've ever had at Turtle Tower and Pho Ga Huong Que- deliciously tasty and soul-warming chicken soupy bowl of goodness. Authentic to a T. These black sesame garnished morsels were practically divine with their minced pork, soft dough, and crispy undersides. I blowed through them quite fast that I forgot my disappointment about the soup dumplings. There was a small communication error however. I informed the lady that I can't take the frozen soup dumplings because I have such a long drive back home but she tossed them in a bag for me anyways. Were they complimentary? Did she think I had an icebox? I have no idea, but I cooked the thawed buns when I got home and they were great.

However, I've never been inside the store, despite passing it many times over the years. I got the chance to visit recently. The inside is homey with knick-knacks everywhere. There's only one small table for 2 in the shop but patio seating next to the shop. The lady who took our order (and made the dumplings I think?) was friendly and warm. Hoping the dumplings would taste better than how we made them at home (usually, if made commercially, they're juicier and crispier), we bought the pan-friend dumplings with Napa Cabbage ($10.99) and the Shanghai Buns ($9.99). Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The pan-fried dumplings turned out soggy, drenched in oil, while the meat in the Shanghai Buns was lacking in quantity and overly seasoned. Neither items were juicy (and in my experience, they should be), with many of the dumplings coming out with broken skins. As well, one of these items came with a chicken soup that tasted like oily salt water sprinkled with green onions. In my opinion, it'd be cheaper to buy their frozen dumplings and prepare them at home. You could probably do about the same, if not better. If you want freshly-made dumplings, however, I'd recommend going somewhere else.

The old Divisoria Market at 1743 Carling Ave closed down. I like this new location so much better. It's bigger, brighter and cleaner. When I went at the beginning of September 2023 they only had their grocery store and remittance service open. They didn't have prepared foods yet. They said maybe in October. I was a bit disappointed because I was hoping to get some turon or Halo-Halo. Anyway, they had lots of shelf stable items and a few frozen products. Looking forward to trying their prepared foods when they have it set up and will update the review then. Free parking available in the strip mall parking lot.
