TL;DR/The Short Version: Ottawa's second T&T Supermarket…read more Smaller than the first, but still has lots of cool Asian products. The Long Version: This T&T Supermarket location is in Hazeldean Mall in Kanata. It's where the Laura's Your Independent Grocer used to be. It just opened at the end of October 2024. We went the beginning of November 2024 so it was still brand spanking new. I took my parents here to check it out and see how it compares with the other location on Hunt Club. Our consensus was this Kanata location is smaller with less selection than the original location. We were happy to visit and see what it's all about, but since the Hunt Club location is closer to us, we'll continue to go to that location instead. The bakery section at this Kanata location is much smaller, as is the prepared foods section. I also noticed that they use sesame seeds in a lot more of their sushi than the Hunt Club location. As someone who can't eat sesame seeds and can rarely buy prepackaged sushi, this made me sad. They have dim sum and Chinese BBQ and also an area to eat the food you purchase. It's good court style seating. I did notice their impressive selection of imported Lay's chips. Their selection was comparable to the other location in this regard. I doubt I will return unless I'm already in the area for another reason because it's far from my home and I rather go to the Hunt Club location, but I think it's great for Kanata residents. And it's breathing some much needed life into Hazeldean Mall. Lots of free parking in the mall parking lot. (200)

The inside of the store is clean, the lighting is good, there's a lot of parking & direct access by bus. The only negative I would give to this store is that the aisles are a bit on the smaller side, and I can see this getting really busy. I went on a Thursday, it wasn't too busy but I was still having to navigate around people and bumping into a few others. Also, if you are someone that likes making soups and stocks you can get chicken bones here for $1 per pound

Fresh and tons of it Biggest carrots I've ever seen!? Same with the seafood. I only go here for frozen shrimp and scallops now. Cheaper. Good quality. Steaks too, good cuts. Cheaper again. There is a seafood room with fresh lobsters, fish etc. There is a fresh food area where food goes by weight. I've done this x 2. Good but very expensive. Lots of packaged noodles which I love. So many things I've purchased on a whim. IE soup dumplings and frozen chive pancakes. Yum. Staff upon check out and in aisles... No. Not great but it won't stop me from coming.. and... 4 easy stars.

TL;DR/The Short Version: Asian grocery store at Grant…read moreCrossing. Big, bright and clean. Mostly items from China but they have items from other countries too. The Long Version: My parents first introduced me to Green Fresh when they only had one location (the OG that was on Selkirk, that has since closed down). It was dingy and run down, but had lots of Asian ingredients that they were looking for. And it was the closest Asian grocery store to where they lived. They were thrilled when it moved to McArthur and had a total facelift, it was new, bright and clean. Green Fresh then opened a second location in Nepean on Merivale, closer to my neck of the woods. Then in January 2025, they opened this third location in Kanata/Stittsville. It's in the Grant Crossing, where the Bed, Bath and Beyond used to be (next to the Value Village). This newest location is very similar to the Nepean location. It even has the same bubble tea vendor inside (Y-Not Go For Tea). Which is a bit funny because the first Y-Not Go For Tea location is inside the Hunt Club T&T and T&T and Green Fresh are competitors! The Vanier Green Fresh has a different bubble tea vendor though: World Tea House. I visited this Kanata/Stittsville location shortly after opening, so maybe they don't have all their stuff together yet because although they have a section labelled "Bakery" they didn't have any baked goods :( However, they do have a prepared food section. It's self-serve and you pay by the weight ($2.29 per 100g). They also have a counter where they make Jianbing, Chinese crepes. There was a huge line up for these when I went, so they are definitely popular. They have lots of items, including snacks (my favourite aisles), lol. Most of the products are from China, but they have items from other countries too. They had Kracie DIY gummy kits imported from Japan. And they were only $4.99. The west end is now flush with Asian grocery stores (T&T, Kowloon, now Green Fresh, and soon Sunny Food Mart) compared to the east end (to my parents' chagrin). I'd say the prices here are the lowest generally speaking. However, the prepared foods did not look as appetizing to me as at the other Asian grocery stores. Free parking in the plaza parking lot. I already had a lot of the ingredients at home, but I was missing a few and didn't want to make the trip across town to the grocery store that was recommended to us. Barrhaven Market was closer and we were doing errands in the area that day, anyway, so we thought we'd pop in. It might've been a little overwhelming had I not had a grocery list with me! They don't have fresh produce, but there are a ton of spices, baking and other cooking supplies, canned goods and shelf-stable items, some baked goods, frozen food, fresh meats, cheeses, and even beauty supplies. There was a whole spice aisle and I was tempted to buy a bunch of things that weren't on my list, but I didn't have much time to browse and had to stick to the plan. I was able to find the mahleb (ground St. Lucie cherry pits), 7-spice, and yeast pretty easily. There was a shade thing that was covering all of the meat and cheese and my husband tried to open it, but it wouldn't give for some reason and we didn't want to break anything. It was a bit hard to see what was behind it, so I asked the only employee there for some help. He pulled up the shade really fast and immediately picked up the akawie cheese I was looking for. He asked if I needed anything else on my list, and I had another cheese on it (kashkaval), but he said they no longer have it because it wasn't very popular or selling very well. I wasn't too worried about the prices, since I was looking for convenience more than value, but everything I got was affordable. The staff member was super helpful, there's a plastic (plexiglass?) screen at the cash, and it was pretty empty in the middle of the weekday, so no issues with crowding. I'll definitely be back!

T&T stands for Tina & Tiffany, after the founder's 2 daughters. T&T are also the initials of 2 early investors as well. You can find this market in the same plaza as Mary Brown's Chicken & Taters with plenty of parking. I love shopping at T&T Supermarket with such a vast selection of fresh produce, seafood/ meat, dried and fresh noodles, bakery goods, teas, premade foods/ meals, etc (there is also a hot food bar you can pick from and serve yourself and pay by the weight). My husband and I stopped by this particular location this afternoon. It was pretty busy, but that was expected on a Saturday. We got our cart (requires $1 to use but you will get it back after you return it) and then went inside to shop. Coming from Montreal and shopping there earlier this week, I was surprised to find that some of the same items at this location actually cost a little more. For example, I was looking for this special Hong Kong Milk Tea bag that saw that it cost $1 more for the box than at the location in Montreal. I like that this market is clean and does not have that familiar smell that some Asian markets may have. Aisles are wide enough to navigate your cart through and each aisle is labeled accordingly to help shoppers find where they may want to shop in. During this shopping visit, my husband and I ended up purchasing a live lobster. He really wanted to get some seafood during our trip and also that the vacation rental we are staying in has a good size steamer in the kitchen and figured it would be good to cook it while we are here. For lobster and crabs, you pick the one you want and place it in one of the plastic baskets, then you can bring it up to the employee behind the seafood counter and they will weight it for you, bag it and place a price sticker on it for you. I like that there is a self check out area, as the line for that went by so much faster than the other lines. Overall, a positive experience and would frequent this location if I lived here.

The produce is right at the entrance where we picked up a coconut and kumquat (which is a citrus but completely edible, peel and all). It was so much fun browsing the snacks and chips. While I didn't purchase any, the condiment aisle was heaven and they has everything from vinegars to oils. They have so many frozen food items like dumplings, korean dogs (filled with cheese), and ice creams. I was most excited to check out the bakery but there was not much of a selection. Fellow yelper, the amazing, Jennifer.P sums up the bakery section very well. The prepared food section was slim the night we went, and it looked like they were out of a lot of items. The refrigerated section was also sparse and maybe they did not have time to stock it up after the weekend (we went on a Monday evening around 7pm). I loved that they had plenty of vegetarian items like veggie jerky found in the chips aisle, and puffed tofu in the refrigerated aisle. While T&T blows it out of the water in terms of prepared items and their bakery, Green Fresh has some amazing shelf stable hard to find items.

The Long Version: I've been awaiting the opening of this grocery store ever since I saw the sign go up back in March of 2024. Their grand opening was October 19, 2024. I went the day after and have been back once since then. I've been to the Green Fresh on McArthur Ave and in fact have been to the original location when it was still on Selkirk St before it moved to McArthur. It was dingy and not the cleanest when it was on Selkirk, but when it moved to McArthur it cleaned up its act and became a place that was much more enjoyable to shop at. This second location on Merivale is even better. So big, bright and clean. I enjoyed looking at their chips and candies, lol. They also have hot foods and prepared sushi. They have a "Cake" section, but it's not a bakery with traditional cakes. It's just some packaged Swiss Rolls-type cakes and I think packaged mini Japanese-style cheesecakes. Their bakery section is all prepackaged items as well, mostly Filipino items like pandesal and also bread from Grey Matlock Bakery (Nigerian breads - not Asian at all, but hey I embrace inclusivity, lol). Their hot foods section has mostly Chinese food and some Indian food (samosas and I think I saw some pakoras as well). It's by the weight and you serve yourself then they weigh it and you pay at the prepared foods counter. The seafood section is in a separate room, so it really cuts down on the smell. In fact, I didn't notice any fish smell while in the store (I did not enter the "seafood room."). Service was satisfactory. Not super friendly, but not rude. Just neutral. The grocery store is where the Bad Boy Furniture used to be. It was a Future Shop before that. And for a few Halloween seasons it was a Spirit Halloween. There's lots of free parking in the parking lot out front. (198)

What a cool store that I never knew existed! Hungry Ninja sells primarily imported snacks from Asia…read moresuch as chips, candies, and ramen, but they also sell Asian groceries, such as sauces, oils, vinegars, miso, kimchi and the sorts. They have the largest selection of exotic KitKats I've seen here in Ottawa. They sell bags for $6.99, which depending on the flavour have 9-14 mini bars. They also sell individual bars for $0.99 each. So you can try one before committing to an entire bag. They also have a large selection of Kracie Popin' Cooking' DIY candy kits! They are $5.99-$6.99 which is about half the price of places like Sugar Mountain and Sweet Escape Candy Emporium. Sure, you don't get the nostalgic candy store vibe here, but you save $4-$6 per kit. My little nieces are addicted to these kits, so I've scoured the city for these, lol. If you are a mochi-lover, they have a lot of mochi from Japan. Many grocery stores only carry mochi from Taiwan (and specifically the brand Royal Family), so if you want something different, you can check out the variety here. They sell Wong's Ice Cream (from Toronto)! This brand sells Asian-inspired flavours like Vietnamese Coffee, Thai Milk Tea, and Korean Banana Milk. In addition to ice cream, they sell other frozen goods too, like Korean dumplings, croquettes, and Tteokbokki. They have some bubble tea plushies at the back, as well as those happy/sad reversible octopus plushies. Staff pretty much leave you alone to browse. They were efficient at checkout. They are located in a strip mall. There's free parking in the strip mall parking lot. I definitely recommend checking out Hungry Ninja if you like imported Asian snacks :)

The…read moreshipping alone was 1/3 the cost of the order, however because they have unique items I can't get in my city I had no problem paying for it. When I received the last two orders (both of which were placed in September), I noticed that multiple bags had expiry dates of September and October of the same year. They were meant to be Christmas gifts for the Healthcare Workers at the Hospital where I work, so obviously they would be expired by then. There was no mention of the expiry date online on any of the items I purchased, nor did they mention anything before they sent me the items. The first time I contacted them they told me to send a photo of the items and I would receive a refund. I did this, but then I was told I would have to return the items (and pay for the shipping myself), show them a photo of the receipt and then they would issue me a credit for that amount. ...What??? Why would I have to pay for shipping AGAIN after paying a total of $60 the first time? What kind of business sells edible products that expire within weeks of shipment? This is mind boggling to me. I have told potential customers about my experience and will share this review in the hopes that others don't end up having to go through the same thing when they go to purchase stocking stuffers or Christmas gifts. There is something not right about the fact that this place is selling perishable food items without being transparent about the expiry dates.
