So happy we stumbled upon this gem. We were trying to find a place in the downtown strip of Blue Ridge to eat and every single spot had a 2+ hour wait. No thank you! Hopped on Google maps and found this place in the opposite direction of downtown and decided to give it a shot as we were starving. Seated right away. Downtown Ellijay is adorable as well. Staff were attentive and kind. The food was authentic, fresh and flavorful. Honestly I wish I could uproot it and take it home to Nashville with me -- so delicious! We had a huge gaggle of girls at the tables next to us so it was a little loud, but once they started eating and stopped screaming at each other it was fine. Great selection of vegetarian and vegan options which many don't call out. Very inclusive. Highly recommend! I hope to be back one day.

Let me start off with, the Kiwi margarita was delicious! Get it! Also, the guacamole was delicious. I got the Catrina Bowl, and honestly, I wasn't a fan. I asked for chicken and they didn't put chicken in it. It was mostly onions...like 90% onion. It's very veggie heavy, which is fine. I probably wouldn't order that again.. It's an okay spot for some Mexican food if you're staying in Ellijay.

I am a big Mexican food snob being from Florida which has a lot of authentic Spanish options. This place ...from the food, the drinks and the service; it was am amazing experience. I did the coco mama margarita and a prickly pear. Both there outstanding. Also I knew from the start of the chips and salsa it was going to be good. The queso and fajitas were outstanding too. Come here if you love flavor and authentic Mexican food. Stay away if you want boring and average . The inside is also very cute with modern decor and a cute grass logo on the wall

Wow, this place is a little treasure. We were in Elijah for a night and were craving a marg and tacos and so glad we found this place. The food is so fresh, the drinks are top notch and the service was just as good. I'll be dreaming about this when I go home and can't wait to come back through Ellijay to visit here again!!

Pizza birria no cilantro

The food was super good and the service was fine. Would recommend splitting the pizza birria with someone it's huge.

street tacos & quesadilla

Absolutely delish, probably one of the best mexican restaurants i've ever been too! great service as well & a very nice interior!

The mahi mahi tacos

Sooo delicious. My husband and I were just passing through and saw great reviews on this place so we decided to stop. So glad we did! The mahi mahi tacos were fire with the chipotle sauce. Plantains were also a hit. My husband got a large burrito that was gone in seconds. Plus the ambiance is cute and bathrooms are clean. Great service as well.

Birria!!!

Great salsa and guac but the rest is downhill. Service was terrible. The servers spoke broken English, which was fine as our party had multiple native Spanish speakers. They still messed up our order and subsequent requests multiple times. Birria is a bit lackluster. Don't mess with it here.

Service was given with a smile and waitress was knowledgeable about the food. We had street tacos... they were delicious. Thank you for a pleasant experience. Enjoyed the music as well!

Cucumber jalapeño margarita

I had the Jalisco enchiladas with steak and a large cucumber jalapeño margarita, and both were very delicious. We were celebrating my girlfriend's birthday, and when I mentioned that, they brought out a sombrero and dessert. Very nice of them. Excellent service.

Amazing food!

This was authentic Mexican food. So delicious. You felt like mom and pop were in the back cooking…read more We had tacos and they make their own corn tortillas. I'm not a fan of corn tortillas but these were AMAZING... the salsa was wonderful too. Now they did not serve chips and salsa so don't be disappointed when they don't bring you chips, but the food was totally worth it. The tacos were big and full of chicken or beef (which is actually steak). Don't be fooled by the grocery store attached. There's a little restaurant beside it. The service was wonderful and she spoke English, which was great, cause we don't know Spanish. I would totally recommend this place!!! Forgot to take pictures...

(I highly recommend the chicken.) For those still reading, if you're used to going out for "Mexican" food where sombreros hang on fake adobe walls and the lunch menu includes something called the Speedy #5, forget it. But, if you grew up in the South like me and know that a craving for Nanny's biscuits and gravy means avoiding flashy chain restaurants like the plague, you'll understand Carniceria Y Tienda La Mexicana the minute you walk in the door. This is a wonderful place serving up authentic examples of Mexican down-home cooking. A few things to keep in mind: 1. The menu seems to be fairly extensive, although I've never actually seen a menu. 2. If you don't speak Spanish, you might be in for an adventure. Don't let that scare you away though! Persevere and you'll be well rewarded. My first time, I was a bit out of my depth. Luckily a nearby table of young ladies came to my rescue and acted as my translators! 3. When you're ready to pay, take your ticket to the counter in the attached grocery store. Make sure to browse while you're there for tasty treats unavailable in your local mega-mart. 4. If you're concerned about a language barrier, go to the grocery store counter when you arrive and ask for a little assistance ordering, they're very nice and quite fluent in English. I've saved the best for last. On Fridays and Saturdays, the ladies in the kitchen make up a giant batch of the best Tamales I've ever tasted. In fact they might be one of the best anythings I've ever tasted. So, run by on your Friday lunch break and pick up a couple. You won't even have to wait since the guys at the grocery store counter keep a bunch on hand. Your mouth will thank you!
