So happy we stumbled upon this gem. We were trying to find a place in the downtown strip of Blue Ridge to eat and every single spot had a 2+ hour wait. No thank you! Hopped on Google maps and found this place in the opposite direction of downtown and decided to give it a shot as we were starving. Seated right away. Downtown Ellijay is adorable as well. Staff were attentive and kind. The food was authentic, fresh and flavorful. Honestly I wish I could uproot it and take it home to Nashville with me -- so delicious! Me and my friends all came in from OH and we wanted to go somewhere to eat so we chose this spot. It was 8 people and they were quick to seat us but didn't ask if we wanted indoor or outdoor seating. The fans on the outside patio were doing no justice and blowing hot air. We didn't get menus, silverware, or napkins until we asked for them when the waitress finally came around 10-15 minutes later to ask for our drinks. They took 20+ minutes to get our drinks and still we were missing drinks (half ordered a bar drink and the rest were waters). The food took over an hour to get to the table and they all came out at different times and I was the last person to get my food because it seems that they forgotten that I even ordered. So I had to wait another 10-15 minutes for my food to come out while everyone else had their food. The food itself was subpar, the birria tacos were okay but the meat was very chewy and dry. And my friend got the same thing as me and instead of giving her consumé they gave her a bowl of soupy black beans (which she never asked for). Wow, this place is a little treasure. We were in Elijah for a night and were craving a marg and tacos and so glad we found this place. The food is so fresh, the drinks are top notch and the service was just as good. We went for dinner on a Friday night and were very pleased. It was a very casual and cozy place and not super crowded. The fresh guacamole was SO FRESH and DELICIOUS! Salsa was good- had a kick but not too spicy. I got the steak street tacos and my husband got the brisket tacos. We were both very pleased! The corn tortillas are obviosuly made fresh. Had a very authentic and fresh feel. We split a pitcher of strawberry margaritas which tasted fantastic- Not overly sweet- but we would have liked them a little stronger. We questioned if there was actually taquila in them at all since we finished the pitcher and neither of us had even the slightest buzz. I do want to give this another try next time we're in the area because I think we were there on an off day. Sat on the patio which was perfect for a group that included loud kids. Took awhile to get orders in and the service just went downhill from there. I felt like it was our server's first day on the job. She had a lot of trouble when I ordered water plus a cocktail. She ended up bringing the cocktail only and despite reminding several times, I just ended up sharing my husband's. I know some Spanish and actually ended up ordering in Spanish to make it easier on her. She didn't know the menu at all and had us point to what we were ordering. I feel for those customers who had to do all of it in English! Salsa: AMAZING. And addicting. Cheese dip: exactly how you would imagine. We like to order empty ramekins to split it up for the kids so their not double dipping and dribbling in the main bowl. To communicate this scenario to our server was very difficult but eventually she understood what we were trying to do. Mexican restaurant parenting hack - you're welcome :) Trio Fajitas: fabulous flavor, generous portion Hibiscus Rita Cocktail: refreshing, Tajín rim Roasted Guacamole: great in theory but horrible in execution. No jalapeños either which was disappointing. Consistency was pretty watery and the bacon was flimsy undercooked pieces. I removed all of them. Would be better to be crispy bacon and for consistency to be creamier. When it was time to close out, we had to chase down our server and I noticed the other table next to us trying to do the same thing. Would love to give Catrina another chance though. read more

Growing up close to the Mexican border, I have had many a meal of Mexican food. If you told me that in the mountains of North Georgia in a quaint Apple town that I would find a spot on and authentic Mexican restaurant, I simply would not believe you. That said, I encourage you to not take my word for gold here and rather go and patronize this amazing and authentic Mexican food restaurant. A small business that is locally owned and run with passion and love deserves your business. My family enjoyed the chips and salsa, both fresh and made in house, nachos (kids), and two different orders of tacos. All we ate was delicious! My partner & I took a trip to Blue Ridge yesterday and on the way back we decided to stop at this restaurant after reading their reviews on Yelp. Our server was Armando who was also made our drinks. I ordered the Smokey Mezcalita & I must say that it was delicious & refreshing, the presentation of it was very nice. My partner ordered the Diablo spice drink & though it wasn't bad, its taste was not as big as mine and also the pottery cup was smaller. We started with the Guacamole clasico & the Catrina Dip as appetizers. The Guacamole clásico though it was good, it fist came with the avocado cut in small pieces which was different as must Mexican restaurants we've been too usually ask you if you'd want all the ingredients that come with on it & they make it for you. My partner had to smash all the avocado with the rest of the ingredients it came with to look more like an usual guacamole. The Catrina Dip was filled with flavors & the corn tortillas were good too. I ordered La Chingona quesadilla that comes with bell peppers & though I asked to not include them, when it was served they left the peppers inside which I had to put aside. The quesadilla was filled with lots of flavors, its size was big (Large) which it will leave fill you up. I ended it up taking some of it home. My partner ordered "Parrillada la Catrina" and Armando had told him that it's usually for two people. When it came we were shocked to see the size of it & how much food it came on the plate, it was served with Corn tortillas as he requested. Needless to say, we took a lot of it home because it was impossible to eat all of that at once. So definitely this plate can be shared between two or more people, it has plenty to share around. We met the Manager Antonio who was very attentive, friendly & professional. He made us our last drinks which were the same "Smokey Mezcalita" but he hooked them up way better, the Mezcal was stronger & really nicely made. He took some photos of us holding our drinks to be shared on their website. From the moment we walked in & we sat down & placing our orders, the food came out in no time (especially because it wasn't as busy yet). Our drinks also took no time to be made & brought to our table. Antonio came to check on us throughout our visit & chatted with us a while in between sitting other customers that were coming in. We were given plenty of to go boxes since we definitely needed them after having soo much leftovers to take with us. The restaurant looks nice inside & it was lovely to see a Frida Kahlo painting on the wall since she's my favorite painter ever. Perhaps I would suggest to have some music playing inside the restaurant to create a little bit more of an ambiance. There is plenty of parking in front and back of the restaurant.
