On a trip to San Juan, a group of colleagues and I went for dinner. We found La Casona, a beautiful place, and they took reservations. If you plan to go here, make extra time -- I found the service to be slow. However, the service doesn't dictate the flavors of the food. Food was tasteful and all with Spain recipes. I ordered el churrasco, and my colleague ordered the vegetarian lasagna- the food was good!!!! If you are looking for something more traditional to Puerto Rico - go somewhere else. read more

Not sure what I loved more ? The cute lady at the door greeting us , the waiters , the ambiance , the owner , the grounds , the food , the wine cellar , or the charming birds in the courtyard. Everyone in Puerto Rico is extremely friendly and welcoming and this restaurant is no different, they honestly treat you like family. I would definitely consider this restaurant to be a hidden gem. WORST PLACE EVER! Wedding place: I am naturally from Puerto Rico (boricua). One year ago we (my now wife) make the arrangements to get married in this venue, bad idea. Even if the place is gorgeous (really beautiful) the administration is REALLY bad. I cannot believe how hostile are the owners of the place. They gave us just 2 hours, 2 HOURS, to do the decoration for a wedding. During the decoration process the owner yelled at us, did not wanted to turn on the air conditioner, nor bring water in a 88F weather. Food: Not impressive at all. Some of the guest have indigestion with the food. SUPER expensive for the quality. They "serve" you really fast just to have the space open for another person, but the thing is NOBODY goes there! What a shame... Drinks: The bartender is amazing! However, there selection of local rums is really bad (hello!!! is Puerto Rico!!!). I gave this place HALF of a star. If you are interested in celebrating your wedding, please go to another place. If you want to have dinner, please go to another place. If you want to have a drink, please go to another place. This is a TERRIBLE place!!! I do not recommend La Casona Restaurant for ANYTHING! Hands down one of the finest and gorgeous-looking restaurant in the Metro Area. The spaniard arquitecture is a jewel, the exquisite food and wine selections are superb, and the interior is furnished with fine wood, mouldings partitions and decorated with sophistication and detail. The restaurant overlooks to breathtaking, spacious and luxurious courtyard with easy access, in and out, which provides to enjoy the beautiful fountain, landscaping and inclusive gardens, and of course the colorful Macaws or Parrots (Guacamayos) which seems to have an intimate connection with Chef Manolo. In addition, La CAVA, the underground wine cellar is spectacular. Very favorable for intimate gatherings or small business groups. My wife and I held our wedding reception; way back to 1991, at La Casona in the main dinning hall, and seldom we continue to come to celebrate our wedding anniversaries and other memorable moments. However, La Casona stands for "Big House", and as such, it has many private halls in the first and second floors all overlooking the main courtyard and surrounding areas. In May of last year (2015), my daughter graduated from a stateside university, and upon arrival what more fitting or appropiate but to celebrate her college graduation dinner with family and friends at La Casona. Needless to say, special occasions are the main reason (or excuse) to drop a visit to this beautiful place, and recently we had another. All in all, our experiences with the owners, Chef Manolo and Mrs. Myrta, and the staff in general has been of first order. In writing this review which we had been accustomed lately, I read with great sadness the May couple's bad experience on such an important occasion, so sorry for them and very unfortunate indeed, but we never ever had such experience. I'm sure it must painful for them as well as you guys. I will say to them to give it another chance and you won't regret it !!! Now, from the moment you crossed the arch iron gates, the valet parking employees' graciousness to the warm welcoming of the reception host/hostess is duly palpable. A Brides Nightmare!!! I pick this restaurant/ venue for my wedding. I wanted the beautiful colonial architecture and fine dining experience for my international friends that came to my country. As any proud bride and puertorican I wanted to give them the best experience! This place was a Nightmare to work with! Starting with the fact they fired the person that assured me I could decorate the day before and changing it to 2 hours before the wedding!!! The only way you can do that it having a HUGE Team working the several areas at the same time! The owners were so mean that made my mother cried, and insulted my wedding planner calling her a moron because they don't want you to decorate more than putting a flower arrangement on the tables! They assure me that we would have accessed to the elevator for my family members that couldn't take the stairs and my wedding coordinator end up having a argument about it the same day of the wedding trying to get my grandmother to the ballroom! Most of my wedding flowers died because they wouldn't turn on the AC the day of the wedding. Including my wedding bouquet. They were racist and rude with their staff and I'm so angry saying this 'cause my country is not ! we are a mix of african + taino+ spanish . So you do NOT mistreat your employees because they are Dominicans and Black! That is NOT RIGHT! And after all was done, my mother went to pick up the decorations and the owner scream, yell and trough her out several times and they STOLE 2 master craftsman wood center pieces from my tables. I had no choice to do my wedding here after the down payments but I know we have more beautiful places that you can take your guest and family members and never go through this for your special day. La mayoría de mis flores de la boda murieron porque no pusieron el aire acondicionado hasta muy tarde en el dia.Incluyendo mi ramo de la boda. Ellos fueron racistas y grosero con su personal y estoy tan enojada diciendo esto porque mi país no lo es! somos una mezcla de africano + taino + español. Por lo que no se maltrata a sus empleados, ya que son dominicanos y Negro! No es correcto! Y después que todo fue hecho, mi madre fue a recoger las decoraciones entre bitas del lugar y gritos. Para colmo se robaron 2 piezas de madera artesanales de mi mesas. Yo No tuve más remedio que hacer mi boda aquí después de los pagos iniciales, pero sé que tenemos lugares más hermosos que ustedes pueden llevar sus invitados y miembros de la familia y nunca pasar por esto para su día especial. This was the most enjoyable experience I've ever had. My girlfriend and I came here on a Tuesday evening and we're the only ones in there for a while so it was pretty quiet and it was nice to have the place to ourselves. Our waiter Jose was so kind and attentive to our needs, and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. At the end of dinner he served us complimentary shots of this delicious cafe liquor. 10/10 would recommend and definitely looking forward to my next trip to Puerto Rico, so I could come back here. read more
