Wonderful new gem. Warm and stylish surrounds in a former wine store. Exceptional French fare, great wine list and service.

Had dinner here on Tuesday evening. The venue is beautiful and well decorated. If you like sitting…read moreat a table, there are few to choose from. Most of the seating is alfresco (wear layers), and on outdoor lounges. It's a great place to grab a drink and snack before the movies. There was no dinner menu, which seemed a bit bizarre. There was a breakfast and lunch menu, but there were only shared plates on offer from 3pm onward. We got a broad selection of food and the portions were more generous than we anticipated, so keep in mind it is great for groups. We shared the warm olives (good), the truffle arancini balls (decent), the grilled halloumi (yum), sweet potato fries (yum), and the trio sliders (not recommended). The sliders were super disappointing, all super dry. If we hadn't ordered those we would have needed another shared plate to compensate. All the food coming out of the kitchen looked good, I wish we had tried the prawns instead. There were a lot of comments on GOOGLE about poor service, but we thought it was good service with a friendly staff and the food was sent out super quick. I'd like to think we would go back, but not for dinner. Most likely drinks on the patio and maybe some small bites.

In fact the beer selection here is absolutely amazing - they even have trappist beers, which I absolutely adore, even if it is because they happen to be brewed by monks in a monastery. Yep, they have a pretty decent swag of beers here, and I have to say that they even have some of my favourites. Honestly, this place is amazing. Oh, and they also have a bottle shop attached to the place which sells many of the beers they serve, and much, much more.

Last went here for Brunch on Saturday and the place was very busy. The service team managed to give us a reserved table by the window as the next reservation was not due for two hours. Nice simple brunch menu in a cool venue and could could accompany your brunch with a freshly brewed coffee or spice it up with a tempting brunch cocktail list. Cru has saved me when Brisbane has done its best to frustratingly show me that many restaurants prefer to close up early, rather then offering guests a dining option. After may restaurants along James Street turned me and my friends away at 9:30pm on a Thursday Cru Bar was open and ready to accept my business. Yes I admit, I am a fan :o)

My very first Australian review! I have been waiting god knows how many years to write up my Aussie…read morereviews because god knows how many of them I have piling up through the years from visiting my family and friends down under. I am happy to report that my first review will be Montrachet, a place my parents love to go to and brought my son and I when we last visited. When I was at university, Paddington was one of the hot spots where we'd go hang out at. Montrachet is located in Paddington. Like the other reviewer said their opening times are limited and you have to make reservations way in advance. During some times of the year they are closed for weeks on end so it makes it really inconvenient if you're wanting to go dine there. On the night of our visit we arrived to find the dining room bustling - which I was told is typical. Since there were four of us we ordered appetizers and entrees (in Australia, entrees are appetizers while entrees are referred to as 'mains'). We had Morton bay bugs and quail to start, both my mom's favorites. Then we moved onto duck and steak and my son had a lobster ravioli. I remember thinking everything was good but didn't blow me away. I had heard my folks rave on and on about this place so I guess my expectations were high. But then, both my parents mentioned that everything they tasted that evening wasn't up to par with their previous visits -- they visit at least once a month -- and my mom even apologized that it happened on the night I visited because it was such a rare opportunity that I was able to come. The chef/owner came out to say hello to my parents and my dad naturally mentioned that I was a blogger blah blah and since I was taking photos of the meal the chef asked me to please write about Montrachet. Unfortunately I didn't blog about it and am glad that finally I am able to. I didn't go home this summer. Maybe I will next summer. I know my girlfriend celebrated her birthday there a few months ago and had a fantastic time. I guess I need to go back again. 3.5 stars!
