    Boar stew

Enjoyed an impromptu dining experience at La Bucaccia while spending an evening walking around Cortona. Proprietor welcomed us (luckily) without a reservation though the restaurant was quite full! The restaurant itself is packed in two cozy rooms in a medieval wine cellar setting and two outdoor tables. Service is very attentive with good order recommendations by the waiters. We ordered a quartet of vegetable flan, the porchetta, two pici pasta dishes and the boar stew. Hard to pick a favorite as they were all very tasty. My dish, the porchetta was very good, it was dry aged and well seasoned. When combining a slice of the pork with the crispy skin, a perfect bite of meat! We also had three desserts, sorbet, chocolate lava cake, and Italian biscuits. All were very good. Would recommend this charming restaurant, I see now you can make reservations on their website.

Our VRBO landlord made the recommendation for Dinner at Ristorante La Bucaccia da Romano in Cortona and it was a HUGE SUCCESS. We had such a good time. The food was amazing. And, Romano (the owner) was charming and kept saying "I Love You " as he passed by our table. He offered us Grappa as we were leaving which we accepted. Probably not our favorite but it was a memorable experience.

We walked back down to the piazza for one of the best dinners from Cortona. Allyson ordered a glass of Prosecco and I had a wine glass full of Coca-Cola. Lol. We started off with this incredible eggplant Parmesan that was to die for! Almost as good as my uncle Danny's recipe! The outside edge of the plate had a Syrah reduction, incredible with the eggplant, but it wasn't even needed. Next my wild pork filet with a red vinsanto wine reduction, prunes, and apples was mouth watering and delicious. I had to eat it slowly to enjoy it as long as possible. The potato side was perfectly seasoned. Allyson had ravioli made from chestnut flour with porcini mushrooms and white beans. Then on to 2 amazing desserts: Capula and Tiramisu! First the Capula...it had a chocolate coating with white chocolate mousse and a red berry filling. This was so delicious. The Tiramisu 10 times better than any tiramisu I've ever tasted. The Italian lady fingers were crisp. The pastry cream was so smooth and tasty. They topped it off with a fine chocolate and coffee powder which was perfectly balanced to make sure neither of them over powered the cream. No alcohol at all. This was absolutely the best way to end this incredible dinner.

This place was such a wonderful surprise find when we decided to head to Cortona for a half day. The food was amazing and the staff was hilarious. I forget the gentlemen who was assisting us but he had the best stories, sense of humor and customer service. We felt like true locals. The atmosphere was gorgeous and really took us back in time. We had wild boar here and it was incredible. Would love to revisit one day!

Oh my goodness! Delicious food, excellent service, a beautiful day to eat outside and WINE...... oh yes, the wine! Fresh pasta with truffles, steak and asparagus from the oven and WINE..... oh yes, red wine! And dessert.... I think I've eaten cantucci and drank vin santo with ALMOST every daytime meal since arriving, but that will come to a screeching halt SOON.....

With so much good pici and ragu everywhere we didnt think one place would stand out but this place did. We had some amazing pasta in Tuscany and ate pasta pretty much everyday at good places but this place is the one that I still talk about and remember. I cant speak to the other dishes but the classic pici with wild boar ragu here was one of the best things I've ever eaten.

We weren't sure whether or not to follow the recommendation of concierge at our hotel for la Bucaccia, but we are so glad we did. It is tucked away on a charming little side street of Cortona, in one of the cozy stone buildings with ancient charm. For starters, I had a cheese flan topped with porcini mushrooms, which melts in your mouth. My husband had tasty little pillow pastas with a truffle topping. Our main dishes were also delicious. Very romantic place.

I don't recall which wine this was. But I mean c'mon, you can't go wrong with any wines they have on the menu.

This place is a gem! Just lovely overall with a very friendly staff. I can't get their gnocchi dish out of my mind! The best I've had so far! The gnocchi were so fluffy, felt like I was eating clouds. :) It's the Roasted Beet Gnocchi with Gorgonzola Cream Sauce and Pistachios. My mouth is watering as I am writing this just thinking about it. I wish I was living closer to this place!

    Excellent pasta.

Excellent tuscan food in a charming setting. I base my rating on the taste of their food, which ranged from very good to excellent. All of the pastas are home made and cooked to a perfect al dente. I will definitely return.

Every server is serving you and the owners are incredibly attentive. Meals are stepped out in a way that has you receiving each dish with ample time to enjoy. We ended up here by mistake (confused it with another spot), and unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. The restaurant fills up with reservations for two seatings, and from the moment we sat down the pace felt rushed. We ordered drinks and a starter while deciding on the rest, but multiple staff members kept coming by trying to take our full order. It felt like they were pushing to move things along quickly. There were a couple positives. The chicken livers to start were quite tasty and something we didn't see often on other menus. The primi were underwhelming. The pasta didn't taste fresh like many other trattorias in Siena, and the dishes overall were just average. The lasagna in particular was mushy, and the sauces didn't stand out. The secondi were slightly better -- pork ribs, Barolo-braised beef, and a "small chicken" -- but still nothing that justified the higher prices. They do have an underground wine cellar built into a cave, which is interesting to see, but there are other places in Siena with much larger and more impressive cellar spaces. Also worth noting, they add a "10% tax" charge rather than the typical €2 coperto per person. Overall, a rushed and fairly mediocre meal at a higher price point. With so many better places to eat in Siena, this is one I'd skip.

Il Fornacino has an adventurous menu that I was excited to try. Like every restaurant in the area…read moreit offers the traditional Tuscan tagliata di chianina (is there a law?) but there's also rabbit stuffed with veal and truffles and a very on-trend Swiss chard, ricotta, and truffled egg raviolone. I started with the latter, which was delicious -- but the powerful flavour of cheese and the egg yolk drowned out the chard. My wife's potato flan was quite nice, but it arrived buried under a heap of truffle shavings that tasted of nothing in particular. My main was a special of roast suckling pig with potatoes and a savoury tuile made with the pork drippings. The tuile was gratuitous -- a chef-y touch that didn't actually taste very nice. The suckling pig was beautifully cooked but the potatoes were weirdly inconsistent; some crisp and others mushy. Il Fornacino is a good restaurant that would be the best restaurant around in most places, but the five-star bar is set pretty high in Tuscany. But the prices were very modest and the wine selection was great. It's a tremendously good value for what it offers.
