Three words to sum-up the entire review: rustic rustic rustic!…read more This is a nice little (both figurative and physically) quintessentially French neighborhood restaurant. The host is very gracious and attentive particularly given that the 20 some table seem to always be busy. I started the meal with their homemade pate which really brings it back to the roots (chunky mixed meats mixed in with bone gelatin). As I am used to its more modern cousin the mouses, it took a while to get used to it. However I must admit that it did grow on me (partially thanks to the black pepper and parsley). An interesting side to the dish was a very classic lemon-oil emulsion which was perfectly executed - after over 15 mins it did not run/separate! My main course was veal cutlets served with the restaurant's signature french fries (i.e. Steak frite - but with veal). The fries were as good as they look - not the best in the world but definitely worthy of praise. However 1/2 of the cutlets were slightly overcooked with the rest being perfect. A sign of the restaurants' rustic roots - the cutlets were served in their jus (with a small slice of butter) staying true to the fires / meat paring. They surprisingly had a large selection of desserts. I went with the homemade chocolate mouse which once again fulfilled the rustic ideal: The egg whites could be tasted and you can even feel the very small bits of dark chocolate on the tongue creating a luscious and lovely combination (clearly the moose was only made of one egg whites, sugar, and dark chocolate!) Given the execution of the first two courses I definitely can not give it higher than 4 stars and in fact 3 1/2 might be more warranted food wise; however the service quality and the execution of the desert absolutely makes this a four-star local gem.
