Meat platter
Maryann W.

My sisters and I checked this place out today, and it was so good! We had one of the weekend platters, and it was delicious. There were four of us, and we still had so much to take home. If you're looking for great-tasting meat, check this place out.

Milohas - Combo #1: x2 Small Empanadas, Salad, & Guava Finger ($21)

You Guava be Kidding Me…read more A bakery and juicery that has been serving up delicious Colombian specialties since 1999 in Colombia, before emigrating to the US and opening up shop here in Cambrian Park in 2014. Milohas (mil hojas) means a thousand layers in Spanish, and one taste of Milohas' pastries will make you understand why they picked that moniker. The Good: * Large shared parking lot * Friendly service * Covered outdoor dining * The crust of the empanadas was buttery, flaky, and delicious. All the fillings were good, but you have to try the Hawaiian filling! It was truly fantastic and had us wishing that's all we'd ordered. * Guava Finger has the same perfect crust and tasty guava jam--I could eat a dozen of these and come back for more. *oink oink* * Carissa really enjoyed their lentil soup. I didn't try it, so I can't comment. The Meh: * I kind of prefer the chunks of meat in Peruvian empanadas to the ground meat in Colombian ones, but that's just a personal preference. It was still delicious, so at the end of the day, it's all academic. The Ugly: * No indoor dining, and outdoor dining is limited to only a handful of seats. Conclusion: We've been on the hunt for the best empanadas in the South Bay, and we finally found them.

Finally tried Milohas as they've been on my list for a while and have a lot of great reviews. Oh…read moreman, was I disappointed. Ordered two empanadas: Spinach & Cheese and a Chicken & Potato. I wanted to get some desert items but they seemed to have very few things to choose from. I would have asked questions but inside the store was strangely loud and the woman who helped me was a low talker so I couldn't understand anything she was saying to me as it was. The empanadas are pretty large, as are the prices. $17 for the two. At this price point I was glad I decided not to buy more. Each comes with a tiny side of aji green sauce. They could have been more generous here. I found the spinach to be very salty and more breading than filling. The chicken one was a letdown. Chicken was lacking any flavor. For both the pastry was dry. Was only able to eat half of each and threw the rest away. Not really the kind of place you dine in for. You order at the counter and there is limited seating inside (in a way that makes you not want to dine in), and a few seats outside. Plenty of parking in the shopping center lot. This visit and subsequent review makes me feel sad. I want to support these unique, independent eateries but they make it difficult when the quality doesn't meet the high cost. Improvements would be to reevaluate their recipes, make the pastries less dry and dense, and maybe don't be so skimpy on the fillings.

Its in a nice area and the plaza its in is pretty empty so parking is super easy. When you walk in theres a hostess stand and you need to wait so you can be seated. Its a cute restaurant. Has a large TV. Super casual. The server my husband and I had was super nice. We ordered: -Blackberry juice -Colombiana -Pacfico -Morcilla con papas -1 beef empanada -1 chicken empanada -Bandeja paisa The food and drinks all came out in like 5min. Super quick! The empanadas were really good, well seasoned. Morcilla was delicious! The potatos are not seasoned but you can salt them yourself. They come with 2 sauces one thats guacamole and the other was tapatio based, which was disappointing because it should come with aji. The bandeja paisa was okay. The only thing I didnt like about it was the ground beef. I will be back to try other dishes.

Came here on a weeknight and in the middle of our meal they set up speakers and there was a comedy show in Spanish. Just not what we were expecting as we were looking for a place to eat where we could have a conversation. The food had nice flavors, but the quality of the meat was hit or miss. One plate had nice tender beef while the other one was very tough.

The platter includes one pupusa of your choice, one pastelito, one chicken tamal, one corn tamal, fried yuca with chicharron, one empanada, plantains, sour cream, pickled cabbage, and pickled red onions. I chose the pork, bean, and cheese pupusa, which ended up being one of my favorite items. It tasted authentic with great tortilla texture and flavor. The pastelito was nice and crispy. The chicken tamal was good and similar to a Mexican tamale, but with a softer masa. The corn tamal was sweet and tasted like a cornbread muffin. The fried yuca was good and had a similar texture to potatoes. The chicharron was okay and was a bit bland. The empanada was more of a dessert, as it was sweet with a custard-like filling. The plantains were cooked perfectly and had a nice balanced of sweetness. Also ordered one pupusa with pork and cheese. Personally, I prefer the version that includes beans, but this one was still worth trying. The sopa de pata is a cow feet soup that includes cabbage, carrots, tripe, and yuca, served with tortilla, dried chili peppers, and dried oregano on the side. The broth was flavorful, but there were a lot of vegetables. The cow feet did not have a lot of tendon, so it was basically two pieces of bone that took up a lot of space in the bowl. The tripe was soft, and I like how it was prepared well without any unpleasant smell. The horchata Salvadoreña was refreshing, but okay. Plenty of parking. Customer service was good, and both the waitress and kitchen staff were friendly and welcoming. The indoor dining is small and can fit about 20 to 25 people. Overall, this is a solid spot for Salvadoran food!

The vibe here is very down to earth so don't expect a fine-dining setup, but do expect a welcoming atmosphere with very reasonable prices. After checking photos on Yelp, we noticed the portions looked generous, so the three of us shared two main courses: Arroz con Mariscos + Ceviche de Pescado: The seafood was incredibly fresh, and the rice was packed with flavor. A must-order! Cordero a la Norteña (Lamb Stew): The seasoning was spot on and very authentic. My only minor critique is that the lamb could have been braised a bit longer; the meat was slightly tough. Overall, we were very satisfied with both the service and the quality of the food. We'll definitely be back to explore more of their menu!

The service was ok - though there was only 1 other table at the time, so not sure how it is when it's busy. The parking was easy but very limited, so that could be a problem during busy times.
