The decor is exactly what I wanted, exactly what I needed. The food was insane. Pasta with clams was literally perfect, mixed grill plate was also perfect. Our WINE holy shit that was perfect. We got a crème brûlée type vibe but it was kind of lemony. Also perfect. Everything was perfect and it just had such a genuine homey vibe. The waiters were so helpful and kind. Soccer match on the tv. Owner working at his bigass computer. Nice indistinct chatter. Genuinely the perfect dinner.

Benjamin (the owner) is quite a lively character, very welcoming, funny, and knowledgable about food and wine. Seafood is the obvious specialty and the variety is amazing. Hopefully you have a group large enough to try the antipasti sampler. The choices are too numerous to list or even remember. Some I recall, are stuffed mussels, swordfish carpaccio, baby octopus, anchovies in lemon, etc. The pasta courses we had on our most recent visit were squid ink ravioli stuffed with fish and sea urchin spaghetti (one of my most memorable pasta dishes EVER). They grill fish perfectly for second courses. I have no idea what else is on the menu as Benjamin simply asked if we liked this or that and away the evening went. I will return whenever I can!

So, using The Food Network as my rating bar and referring to one of their shows called "Best Thing I Ever Ate", what are the chances of having two of "Best Things" from the same restaurant? Slim at best, but accurate. Osteria La Caletta is so damn good that when traveling, my (Chef) wife, NEVER goes back to the same restaurant twice, Not now! We Went two nights in a row. A First! Osteria La Caletta on night #1 served us the absolute best Sea Bass she or me {sic} ever had - period; and, we come from Angelini Osteria (L.A.) country. This Branzino was so good, it replaced my "Death Row - Last Meal" rack of ribs that has held steady for over 30 years. I mean, come on, for real? YES! This little family owned restaurant in the town of Tellaro, just nailed it. I am normally a fast eater, but on this night with this dish, I savored each bite of this magnificent fish. Okay then, a rack of Baby Backs to Baked Fish for my last meal. Guess it had to be pretty GREAT! So, night #2 we return to the scene of the crime and ordered the seafood risotto. Now, anyone can make risotto. Give me a box of Uncle Ben's and some chicken stock and even I can bluff it. But, to do it right, I mean really right, it's like trying to split a hydrogen atom. The degree of difficulty in the ratio of stock to heat, to stirring to simmering is more complicated than an Astro-Dynamics calculus formula. Osteria La Caletta made a PERFECT risotto. A 10! Creamy, soft, delicate, complicated, delicious. So, it now replaced the Sea Bass which was on my "Death Row - Last Meal" exactly 1 day. The service is extraordinary, the ambiance is casual Italian, the noise level is - There is no noise level. Osteria La Caletta is such a special place. Besides it being on the coast in this small Italian town, it is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to and that is a very strong statement!

It's not a fine dining thing - it's self service, disposable crockery and cutlery. You choose your food from the blackboard at the front of the entrance (and you can see what you'll get in the bain marie inside). We loved our salmone al forno and lasagne al salmone with peperoni and cavolo. We were there in early February so there was no queue - the service was fast and friendly!

The menu is listed as a pictoral on the side of the entrance, with specials written on a chalkboard on the other side. We were a little nervous because other reviews said the servers would get annoyed if you didn't know what to order. But, the lady at the front seemed to appreciate that we attempted to pronunciate the foods correctly, even grinning at times. You basically order your food and are served on the spot. Then you look for an available table. What we got was delicious, fresh seafood! The Seafood Insalata was an aaaortment of clams, calamari and shrimp in a light olive oil dressing. We also had the Misto Frito, fried little fish, shrimp, scallops and calamari! and finally the linguine with fish (ricciola), so good... Oh, there's a refrigerator on the side that you can chose a beverage of choice from. We opted to share a ltr of Chianti for $4 euro!! Overall, an terrific and reasonable seafood dinner on the wharf!!
