Long ago, before I'd ever stepped foot in this place, I was extremely intimidated by L'Occitane. It seemed so grown up and off-limits. It seemed, well, snobby. I don't think I even went into one of their shops, which they call "boutiques" (well, of course) until I was 21 or so and feeling like I could pretend well enough to be an adult.
But I am glad I finally grew a pair and stepped inside this warmly-lit "boutique." L'Occitane de Provence creates products that manage to be pretty and luxurious without becoming cloying or frou-frou. Their approach is at the same time traditional and modern, combining both to create products that are classic but that still appeal to young women as well. How do they do it? Well, they're so very French, can't you see? Not snobby. French!
Everything is simply divine. You basically just wander around this place in awe, inhaling the incredibly fresh, natural and amazing scented creams, soaps, lotions, potions and more. Think a long the lines of crisp verbena, warm lavender, and sun-ripened fruits. The packaging is also special, being both understated and compelling at the same time. I love any cream that comes in an old fashioned metal tube, and they've got a ton of that kind of thing here.
The products are very elegant and honestly, they are pretty adult. They come with a grown-up price tag too, unfortunate but not surprising. Anything here would make your mom or a particularly lux-loving pal go nuts, so consider it round Christmas or her birthday. read more
