We enjoyed dinner at L'Escale tonight. It was not busy when we first arrived, but picked up as the night progressed. Dinner was excellent. We had the tarte flammbe (sans onions!), weiner schnitzel and veal with cream sauce. The veal was amazing and the seasonal vegetables that went along with it were excellent! For dessert, we tried something completely different - meringue glacee (raspberry and vanilla ice creams topped with a huge vanilla meringue cookie and whipped cream). It was odd, but delicious. We each had a glass of local Alsace wine - Riesling and Gewürztraminer. Both were delicious.
The staff was friendly and accommodating of our horrible attempts at French. The only tiny criticism was the wait between courses, but as this is the typical way of French dining so it wasn't a huge deal.
The space was modern, well-lit and quiet. My husband and I were able to have a long conversation without feeling like we were competing with the other tables. read more
