Total crap. I made an appointment for 11am with Amy 1 week prior. 25 minutes before my appointment, Amy calls and asks if I can come in at 15:00, which is when I start work, myself. So she passes me off to Alex. Alex seemed nice enough, but I quickly realized that he wasn't listening to a word I said. He was absent minded and distracted, asking me the same questions numerous times as if we were in the Twilight Zone. I hadn't let a hairdresser cut my hair in 6 years because I've had nothing but bad experiences. I've learned how to cut it myself and there are a couple friends I trust to do the more difficult sections. I digress. Anyway, I was SUPER specific about the layers I wanted. Well, before I knew it, he was blow-drying my hair with a round brush and I was beginning to look like Jennifer Anniston in the really bad years. I told him I don't stye my hair that way and that I felt like my hair wasn't quite short enough and he said, "trust me, you'll look great". I paid €40 plus a €5 tip because I'm American and too nice not to tip even when I'm unhappy. I walked home and became more and more angry with every step. I got home, sobbed in the mirror, wet my hair and restyled it. It looked like I hadn't had a haircut at all. After much deliberation with friends and colleagues, I realized I had to call back and tell Alex that I wasn't happy. The next morning I called and Alex answered. I told him who I am, that he cut my hair the day before, and that I think we had different ideas about what 'choppy layers' means. He immediately snapped at me and said, "so, what am I supposed to do about it?" and "Who are you, again?" and "can you spell that?". We made an appointment for the next week, I obviously didn't show up, and he certainly didn't call. I just don't understand why he wouldn't want to right the situation. If not for the client, then for pride in his craft. All the potential was there. I could have talked to the manager and demanded my money back - and maybe I should have - but I thought it better to leave a review for those of us who like honest reviews. read more

julie is wonderful, full of suggestions that make sense. the type of hairdresser that really listens to what you want (cut only 2 cm off? no problem). great atmosphere with two very knowledgeable hairdressers. don't be afraid to speak up! read more

I am very satisfied with my haircut, made by Julie. I have short hair, and it is hard to get a proper cut and I had bad experiences before in Germany. My friends found the price expensive for Berlin, but according to french standard it is a very normal (almost cheap) price. Julie spent 1 h of my hair, being very precise, and she understood what I wanted. I will go back again, and hope to be satisfied again. read more

I had my hair cut here by Marleau earlier this year. I didn't like the haircut itself- it didn't look good with my face. However, she had followed my instructions even if it looked bad. I called today to try to schedule an appointment with her because I thought- after all, she had listened to what I wanted. I told the man I spoke to on the phone that I didn't remember her name but described what I did remember about her, in English (since she was also English speaker I thought it was appropriate.) He said to me that she no longer worked there. Okay, I said how about Julie? No, he said, not here. But that he could make me an appt. with _______. I said who's _____? The man said, "she's one of your kind." Long pause (I'm trying to figure out what that means- a woman?...) "she speaks your language." "Okay," I say, that's nice I think, but, "no, thank you." Every time I've spoken to someone on the phone here they have been a bit off/rude. Why is that? Is it necessary to be berated when you just wanna cut your hair? I don't understand... read more

Unfortunately not a good experience. Got highlights instead of the ombre look I was going for. The highlights start quite high up on my head and will take me at least a year to grow out. For some reason they're also only on the left side of my head. On the right side and back only the ends have been bleached. The cut was uneven, as well as something completely different than I wanted. I contacted the salon to try to fix this. The owner replied, was very friendly and invited me to come back when she's there, so she could sort it out. However, when I arrived, she wasn't there and I was greeted by the same person who dyed and cut my hair before. He improved the cut but everything happened so fast that it wasn't until I was home that I saw that the layers are still uneven at the back of my head. Also, I'm still stuck with highlights that I don't want. I'm sure I just had bad luck, seeing as most reviews have been positive, but I don't want to risk losing another 90,- on something I'm not happy with. read more

There is usually some video or movie playing. Free coffee or bubbly water. Not cheap, but worth it.

I usually go to Xin and I love her :D She listened to how I like to wear and treat my hair, how I usually style it and gave me the haircut I wanted while also keeping in mind my routine as well as the way my hair behaves. I am super happy with that personal approach which makes for an amazing hairstyle in the end. I've had hair stylist style my hair very differently when cutting (like straightening it etc.) and once I washed and styled it my way it would look terrible. Super happy this does not happen here. All people in the Salon are very nice and pretty down to earth which is really nice as well.

I got out one hour later with my hair right ABOVE my shoulder and straightened (because she said she needed to do so to cut them well)!!!!!!!!! that was clearly NOT what I asked for... the girl felt so bas that she gave me a discount but that did not give me my long hair back. I will never ever go back there and highly recommend you to get yourself another hairdresser.

I just paid without trying to argue. She didn't do her job well and blamed it all on me in the end with the worst defensive attitude. I got assigned a man working in the corner, he was middle aged and had short dark hair. Right off the bat he seemed out of it and kept running into things, talking wildly to those around him, and dropping the tools he was using. I also noticed a woman at the counter staring down at him disapprovingly the entire time he rummaged about. I just said I wanted a fade on my sides but what he began to do was so reckless and unconcerned that two minutes in I knew I was in a seriously bad situation. Ultimately he spends 7 minutes wrecking my hair and giving me a stupid and embarrassing blotchy fade. Leider bekam ich in den letzten Jahren keine schöne Bobfrisur und das obwohl ich auch bei Friseursalons mit höheren Preisen war. Also ich entschied mich, es beim (l') atelier auszuprobieren. Es war mein erster Besuch dort und ich hatte gleich beim GIANNI einen Termin ausgemacht. Meine Haare sollen einen guten Schnitt bekommen. Ich lies mich beraten, ob ich beim Bob bleiben oder ob ich eine neue Frisur ausprobieren soll die Entscheidung nach der tollen Beratung war, beim Bob zu bleiben. GIANNI hat meine Haare ausgesprochen gut und zu meiner vollsten Zufriedenheit geschnitten technisch wie auch kreativ. ;) Meine Haare haben fettig ausgesehen, auch nach dem ersten Waschen es hat sich herausgestellt, dass das kein Fett war sondern wahrscheinlich Wachs (aufgrund eines minderwertigen Shampoo, das ich benutzte). Vom GIANNI erhielt ich noch ein Peeling für die Kopfhaut und einen neuen Waschvorgang. Damit waren meine Haare vom Wachs befreit und sahen sehr gut und sauber aus. Das neue dort gekaufte Shampoo und den Haarconditioner habe ich zu Hause ausprobiert einfach super! Vielen Dank GIANNI für die tolle Empfehlung! Insgesamt habe ich eine sehr sehr gute Erfahrung angefangen von der Beratung bis hin zum tollen Schnitt beim (l') atelier gemacht! Ich freue mich auf meinen nächsten Besuch dort wenn ich auch Strähnen machen lassen werde. Ein herzlicher Dank an GIANNI für alles! Seit 2010 kenne ich Julie's entzückenden l'atelier Salon. Ich komme von Hamburg alle 4-5 Monate ins l'atelier nach Berlin weil ich bisher noch nie so zufrieden mit einem Frisör war wie mit Julie. Sie versteht ihr Handwerk wirklich und hat dort an der Skalitzer Straße in dem modernen und stylischen Laden eine tolle Atmosphäre geschaffen mit guter (meistens entspannt elektronischer) Musik und coolen individuellen internationalen Kunden und Mitarbeitern, die eher englisch, spanisch oder französisch sprechen als deutsch. Ich kann den Laden jedem empfehlen, der was besonderes für einen guten Preis sucht und habe Freunden die Laden schon empfohlen, welche alle samt zufrieden waren. Weiter so Julie! Since 2010 I know Julies lovely l'atelier hair salon. I come every 4-5 month from Hamburg to l'atelier in Berlin cause I never was satisfied with a hairdresser till Julie cut my hair. Its hard to find people who can cut like her. She really knows his craft and she created a very nice atmosphere in this modern and stylish place at the Skalitzer Straße with all the time good (mostly relaxed electronic) music and cool individual and international people. I really can recommend l'atelier to everybody who search something special for a good price. I already recommended it to some friends and all were satisfied. Keep it up Julie! read more

it'd been a while since i got my hair cut and was shopping around online for something. this was a completely random pick, and i chose it only because the pictures of the place looked good! didn't have to make an appointment as the shop is quite new. julie and victor are the owners: both really attentive, nice. victor cut my hair. i gave him more or less free rein, and he didn't disappoint. the style is nothing ridiculously fancy, just a layered cut at about shoulder length with an uneven fringe. but it was well done -- and he's fast! and a great find for me, because not everyone understands how to cut asian hair. definitely going back again. read more

Having recently moved to Berlin, from England, I was a little nervous about finding a good hairdresser, particularly one that understands my hair and what suits me. Thankfully I found L'atelier, a really cool salon located on Skalitzer, and had a wonderful cut and colour haircut from Marleau. Marleau was great company and made the entire experience thoroughly enjoyable. She listened to exactly what I wanted for my haircut and the end result was perfect. Great value, great experience. 5 out of 5. And now I have found m hairdresser in Berlin! read more

Aus einer Laune heraus bin ich in diesen angenehm schlicht gestalteten Frisörladen gegangen. Die beiden jungen französischen Betreiber sprechen ein charmant gebrochenes Deutsch und gutes Englisch. Der Mantel wird abgenommen und der Kaffee gereicht, dann wird geschaut, beraten, gewaschen, die Kopfhaut massiert, geschnitten, gesalbt und gefönt. Das Ganze kostet 29,- EUR. Da der Haarschnitt auch am nächsten Tag und in den nächsten Wochen noch gut ausschaute, bin ich letzte Woche wieder hin - diesmal aus Überzeugung. read more

Was für ein geiles Friseurgeschäft! !! So eine Location wie L Atelier habe ich in Deutschland noch nie gesehen. Selbst in New York oder anderen Weltmetropolen muss man lange suchen um etwas ähnliches zu finden. Und die Friseure? Genial! Vor allem der Gianni !! Großes Fachwissen und sehr freundlich. Yes I got my hair cut here too because my flat mate kept coming back with great haircuts from Julie. SO I booked to get my hair done, but was surprised to find that Julie was off sick and instead i had the new guy David. The haircut was ok, but now a few weeks later I think it was quite a poor job. I want to go shorter now. I am going to try my luck again and specifically ask for Julie. read more

Auf Anraten einer Freundin bin ich letzte Woche ins ''l'atelier'' gegangen. Der Laden ist einfach klasse. Die Musik ist gut, die Leute sind alle super gut drauf. I got my hair coloured by Bamboo @ l'atelier, the results were way better than I could have expected. I went in to l'atelier with a real mess (several different colours in my hair from home hair dye) and I came out with super natural, sunkissed hair. I'm very happy and would highly recommend Bamboo. read more
