My last hairdresser closed so I looked for a new, good accessible one, near to my work and I found: ICONO. It was easy to get an appointment on the same day. The store is in Mitte, near Hackescher Markt so it's easy to get to. When I came in I got a really really warm welcome by Friederike, my new hairstylist. At first I had to answer some question. How is my hair-structure, what do I want, what not... something like this. Then Friederike analyzed my hair. Told me about the condition and what is possible. She even made a picture of the skin on my head and explained it to me. I was really surprised because I've never had this before. After this I got my hair washed. I took a seat at the sink and was really surprised - the chair massaged my back. I got some conditioner in my hair and she combed through it for around 5 minutes. It was like "wow". I mean, if I were a cat, I would purr. I really liked it. The haircut itself was really quick and precise. She showed me everything and asked me if it's all right. At the end she showed me some products which are good for my scalp. She gave me samples, so I can try them before buying. They compile a data card of you. If you come back they know exactly what you like and need. For me it's one of the best hairdressers in town. 30 or 40 minutes there are like a little wellness trip. With all the knowledge in my head, I went with the expectations that my curls type will be defined, that it will be cut first on the dry hair then all the washing routine will apply and individual curls will be cutted and dried. First of all, I must admit that my hairdresser Marcel wad very friendly and nice. No complaints here, 2 stars goes to his perdonality only. What was done to my hair was not specific to curly hair: he washed it and confitioned, regular layers cut and then a disaster happened: a tonn of styling foam was applied and dried with a diffusor. Curls were not defined. I ended up with a greesy mess on my head. First time in my life when I preffered my own look before than after.

However, during the blow drying the stylist kept rubbing the hair, not even scrunching it, just rubbing it between his fingers and was suddenly done. I was a bit surprised at this point, because my hair was basically a frizzy mess so I tried to explain that I wasn't satisfied with the result. At this point the stylist started getting defensive and kept saying that that was my natural hair and it's not his fault that it looks that messy. Now, I came in with wavy hair and after the cut it was just kinky straight and very frizzy. I tried to explain that it just wasn't what I wanted my hair to look like (in a calm and friendly manner) but instead of coming up with a solution the stylist started yelling at me and said that I couldn't come in his salon and tell him that he couldn't cut hair (which I didn't do). At this point I gave up, pulled my hair in a pony tail, paid and left. This was the worst customer experience I ever had. I've never been yelled at by a hair stylist before. The hair cut itself seems to be alright but the styling and drying part didn't work on my hair structure at all. Maybe it works on curlier hair, who knows. I can't recommend this salon at all. I paid €40 plus a €5 tip because I'm American and too nice not to tip even when I'm unhappy. I walked home and became more and more angry with every step. I got home, sobbed in the mirror, wet my hair and restyled it. It looked like I hadn't had a haircut at all. After much deliberation with friends and colleagues, I realized I had to call back and tell Alex that I wasn't happy. The next morning I called and Alex answered. I told him who I am, that he cut my hair the day before, and that I think we had different ideas about what 'choppy layers' means. He immediately snapped at me and said, "so, what am I supposed to do about it?" and "Who are you, again?" and "can you spell that?". For a woman's haircut that is a great deal. I tipped a lot, because this hair cut would have cost at least $50 in the US. The people were very nice, quite gentle, and the atmosphere was very comfortable. I will definitely go back here even though I could wait until I am back in the states. So I found her a hair salon and this was the one and I'm so happy it was!! The staff was extremely nice and helpful even though we don't know a word of German. They were very hospitable, bringing us drinks. And the beautiful lady who helped my mom (unfortunately don't know her name) diligently made sure to understand what exactly my mom wanted and delivered amazing results! If I would give the review just based on the experience, I would like to give only 1 star or even 0. One week ago, I was with them for hair cut. The hairdresser named Marie could barely speak English or German. She cut my hair not as what I want and even curled my hair temporarily. I believe her good intention, however I still told her in the studio that I actually preferred to have straight hair. Nevertheless, if it is temporarily, I can bear with that for one day. After I washed my hair the next day, I figured out that the length of my hair on left is not the same as the right side. Thus, I called the studio nicely and asked for a fix appointment. The studio staff told me that my original hairdresser is on vacation and asked me if that's ok with me to change another hairdresser for me. I agreed. Today I went the studio to fix my haircut. The new hairdresser called Tomo is really nice and capable. She fixed my hair. I am now happy with my hair style. Obviously she didn't know that I was there for a fix although I clearly mentioned to her that I also was in the studio last weekend and wasn't happy about my haircut. I guess that's why she asked me to pay the full price EUR 50 for the cut. I kindly explained the situation and my new hairdresser understood the situation and discussed that with the studio owner-Maki. Although I don't understand Japanese, I don't feel Maki was nice to her. By the end, I was asked to pay EUR10. Maki's reason is I have a new hairdresser who fixed my hair. Maki didn't really say any sentence to me. She made the decision and left. My new hairdresser Tomo explained all to me. I paid them EUR 10, because 1) that's what I plan to give her as tips. 2) I feel my new hairdresser Tomo is very innocent. I learnt from our conversation that she is new to the country and to the studio. Obviously she didn't know many of the things/rules. I don't want her to be punished due to this. All in all, I am really beginning to doubt the integrity of this studio. They messed up my first haircut. Because of their mistake, I have to spend extra 2 hours on my weekend to fix this. Plus, it is not my fault that my original hairdresser is on vacation and I need to change the hairdresser. It's the pure studio decision. He then styled it "curly", so when I left I couldn't tell how bad it really was. Even the "styling" was horrible and I felt really embarrassed walking home afterwards. The next day I could see he cut short chunky layers near my face, so now the hair around my face is only at eye level. The back was left long, so it looked like a mullet, and 1 side was literally 2 inches longer than the other. It was also just a complete mess and had parts poking out that hadn't been cut. I went back the next day to get it fixed. He said that he did a "freestyle cut because I have curly hair", but I don't have very curly hair, especially after it has just been dyed. He re-cut it. I had to go shorter to try to balance out the short layers from the previous haircut. It still has major problems. It is not balanced at all. The side that should have most of the hair is very layered and is thinner and shorter than the other side. The other side is 2 cm longer and has no layers, it is just straight and sticks to my face. The back is all wonky and different lengths. Overall its just completely imbalanced, not at all flattering, and it feels uncomfortable. I have never complained or gone back about a haircut before and I don't like leaving bad reviews, but it is atrocious and I am still dealing with it now. From my experience, this hair salon should be avoided and I can not recommend it at all.

I said two times that I don't want any thining out of my hair, but the hairdresser kept on thining it out. Now, if I touch my hair, I can feel many short spots (like 1cm hairs), which are quite itchy and will take super long until growing to the same length of the other hair... Moreover, the ends are not the same length, but look a bit ragged... The next time I will definitely pay attention to who I make the appointment with. The price at least, is fair. I always pay about 36 with student discount. What I don't understand is, why it takes so long... My favorite hair dresser in Japan finished my Bob cut in 20 minutes, so it can't be the "Japanese technique" ;D from my experience, people usually stay for 1.5h (no matter if long or short). SUMMARY: If you go there, make sure that the person understands exactly what you want /expect and don't be too shy (like me) to stop them from doing something you DO NOT want. Initially I wanted to get a crazy new hairdo, but wasn't sure what exactly to get, but thought about getting it bleached silver. However, they were very professional and told me that they do not recommend that, reason being that I would not be able to come in several times and doing it in just one sitting would cause a lot of damage to my hair. They didn't want to do that just for the money. So I suggested to get a japanese permanent hair straightening (something I was curious for a while; they did not push that on me). I couldn't have been happier! I felt so myself and my hair was literally like silk. I had naturally straight-ish hair with wavy/curly spots but about 2 months before I got this treatment, I'd straighten my hair almost every day, so it wasn't in amazing shape - but they really did wonders with its health and I wish I could visit them for every hair appointment (I don't live in Berlin anymore). Also: super nice, relaxed, but trustworthy team. They are incredibly welcoming :-) Next time I'm in Berlin, I'll definitely try to make an appointment again.

I got assigned a man working in the corner, he was middle aged and had short dark hair. Right off the bat he seemed out of it and kept running into things, talking wildly to those around him, and dropping the tools he was using. I also noticed a woman at the counter staring down at him disapprovingly the entire time he rummaged about. I just said I wanted a fade on my sides but what he began to do was so reckless and unconcerned that two minutes in I knew I was in a seriously bad situation. Ultimately he spends 7 minutes wrecking my hair and giving me a stupid and embarrassing blotchy fade.
