Fabulous food, delightful service and interesting menu. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening here. In particular, the Paris Brest dessert brought back delicious memories.

It's an awesome restaurant. Visited from NY. It was the best meal we had in Normandy, and it's not close. Service was amazing. The space is also really nice -- very comfortable seats, quite good music, tasteful decor, etc. terrific and highly affordable wine list. Chatted with the chef, who was a great guy. I wish I found this place sooner. I could have eaten it for every meal we were there and avoided some otherwise pretty mediocre food. Can't recommend highly enough.

I was able to snag a last minute reservation at L'Angle Saint Laurent before leaving the cute little town of Bayeux and it was arguably the best meal I had in all of France this past trip. Seriously. The husband/wife duo that's been running this place for the past eight years is focused, polished and running a tight little ship. I opted for the five course prefix menu and every dish was executed so perfectly. The best part, the set menu was 42 euro. Unreal. My Mother opted for the same menu but, ordered opposite mains so we could taste everything that was being prepared that evening. My favorites...the lamb medallions, chilled foie, turbot, chocolate dessert. The foie was was one of the best chilled lobes I'd ever eaten. So. Damn. Good! I also loved the fact that they had a nice wine list complete with splits (375mls or half bottles) which I think are perfect for prefix mune based restaurants. The Chablis and Bordeaux I ordered were spectacular! Lovely family owned business, killer food and a cool estetic. Make sure to reserve ahead before stopping by. If you find yourself in Normandy, check out this gem in Bayeux.

We spent 7 days scouring France for the best food we could lay our hands on. This place is it. Pay no attention to the small number of reviews. It's because few yelper Americans venture to this quaint little corner that sits slightly off the beaten downtown Bayeux path. First thing you'll notice is that this place is classy. Very classy. Your hostess speaks great english, and is poised, polite and friendly. This is French dining, where the details matter. This is the food that rocked our world: ENTREES Biscuit croustillant de rouget et livèche (Red Mullet): The sauce almost killed me, I barely resisted licking the plate. Poireau bio pané à la Catalane (Leek): This could not have been a leek, it tasted like fluffy, crunchy happiness PLATS Pièce de veau Normand prise dans le filet (Veal Filet with Gnocchi): If I could get these gnocchi at home I might try to sell them on the black market. Dos d'églefin laqué miel-sésame (I think?): This one I'm not quite sure what it was... some kind of amazing seafood in a cloud-like foamy sauce with bacon. I've twisted my wife's arm for 8 years to eat seafood and she said it was the best thing she ate in France. DESSERTS Dôme fondant chocolat-pailletine (Dark Chocolate with Vanilla Ice Cream): Chocolate that's more chocolat-y than you've ever tasted, with Vanilla that's more vanilla-y than you knew could be possible. With gold on top. Tartelette à l'orange (Orange Tart with Orange Sorbet): This is VERY important. If you don't take anything else away from this review, you must read this. Navigate to Orbitz.com. Buy a ticket to Paris. Drive to Bayeux. Walk in to L'Angle Saint Laurent and tell them you want the orange tart. Eat it slowly. You have never tasted orange like that because oranges don't reach that level of citrusness on their own. Take the time between each bite to realize that the Nepal pepper they added to the orange flavor to jack it into the stratosphere is literally illegal in the United States. Why? Who knows. Maybe because peppers that taste citrus-y are witchcraft. But after we tasted this miracle we read the menu carefully and started pouring through Wikipedia, which sent us on a weeklong hunt to try to find some and and smuggle it through customs (sorry Trump, we couldn't find it anywhere). To top it all off, our final bill rang in at 74 euro (we don't drink though). Should you eat here? Yes you should.

I don't know why this place doesn't have any more five star reviews. We came here based on a recommendation from our local tour guide. She advised it was hands down the best restaurant in Bayeux and that the chef has vast experience from working in Paris at a six star restaurant. This was the best dinner we had while traveling two weeks through Europe. I'll post pictures, however with warning that they do not come close to doing the food justice. It was mouth watering. You just want to savor every single bite. We saw on the menu outside they offered a variety of scallop dishes (our favorite), however when we asked the waitress she said it was the end of scallop season and they just sold out at lunch so they would not be serving it for dinner. When she went back to get our wine, she had spoken to the chef, also her husband I might add, and he advised he had enough left to make two plates so my husband ordered the squash soup with scallops & truffles appetizer and I had the scallop with risotto meal. Everything we ate was absolutely incredible, the service was perfection and the atmosphere was comfortable. Unlike America, you don't have to dress formal to enjoy a fine dining experience. Nice jeans are always appropriate! I would recommend calling for a reservation the day before, but if you show up at 7 when they immediately open you may be lucky to get a table like we were!

This was our last restaurant of the 3 nights we spent dining at Bayeau. I have to say that the restaurant is very elegantly decorated in a simple understated way. We were initially given an amuse bouche of some kind of salmon pate that was delicious. The table again ordered foie gras to share and 2 of us got the local Normandy duck and 2 got the sea bass with gnocchi. All of the food was very understated in terms of seasoning as I think the chef likes the extremely fresh local ingredients to speak for themselves. We finished the meal by sharing a lemon biscuit topped with some creme and a lemon sorbet which was one of the best sorbets I had in my life. I would recommend this place.

Exceptional food and service. Beautiful setting. One of our favorite meals over ten days in France.

There were a few recognizable recommendations including Michelin so we popped in and were surprised that we were cheerfully seated, though we had no reservation. After ordering a nice bottle of wine, we ordered from the prefix menus. Prior to being served our starters, we were given a sampling of arancini. It looked similar to what we have had in Italy only here instead of Mazzarella cheese it was made with a local cheese. And boy was it really good! The fish soup was very tasty and the turbot entree was among the best fish dishes I've ever had. The fish was served over leeks in a white lightly creamy sauce with a delicious cheese flavor. The cod entree was also quite good. Our deserts, the apple tart with ice cream and the cheese board were well worth the calories. The local cheeses were amazing and even the crackers were special with lots of grains and flavor. The one issue I frequently have doing yelp reviews is that you are limited to whole stars. In this particular instance, given the excellent food, friendly and prompt service in the nicely restored old structure that made for a comfortable dining experience, I would give five stars. However, one of the soups and one of the entrées had to be sent back because they arrived lukewarm. Thus, I would offer up 4 1/2 stars. Given my dilemma, and the fact that the dishes temperature were easy to rectify, five stars it is.

After a full day touring the D-Day sites, we were ready for a memorable dinner. The location was easy to find and the exterior was inviting. Staff were attentive, fluent in English, and great at walking us through the menu. On that note, so was every other guest in the restaurant. Literally every table appeared to be American, including a fairly boisterous group seated right next to us. It was a jarring contrast to the quieter, more intimate French restaurants we'd visited earlier in the trip. The food was a mixed bag. The turbot fillet was outstanding, easily among the best fish I've ever had, and the mango and passion fruit rice pudding was a wonderful finish. The rest of the meal, though, didn't leave much of an impression for the price. Speaking of price, come prepared for a steep bill. And if the Michelin star draws you in hoping for an authentic French atmosphere, you may leave a little underwhelmed. On our walk home we passed a charming local spot and all quietly wished we'd eaten there instead.

Welcome to this modern restaurant gussied up in an old building. Fancy wallpaper mimics aged…read moreplaster. There are lot's of windows which give this place a perennial sense of good cheer. Downstairs, you will find a pocket sized dining room overlooking diners outside at several additional tables in the shadow of the Cathedral. The second floor is accessible only by a ship's ladder and is compact without feeling cramped or crowded. (Think Chez L'Ami Jean in Paris and Cha Ca in Hanoi for that claustrophobic dining experience. Those are places where you all have to lift a fork and then chew in unison otherwise it won't work.) The Staff: Parlez only 5 words in French, even butchered French, and they will glow and shine with pride that you tried. Yes, both waitresses are harried going up and down those steep stairs all night like mad hamsters, but sit back and sip your Vin du pays (tonight, Merlot) and let the time tick. Wine and Aperitifs: There is ubiquitous selection of Kir this and that. A Cider or too (we're in apple country), and a tight wine list. In the USA "house wine" comes in a waxed box with someone's missing Step-dad pictured on the side. It usually has a shelf life equal to Uranium. In France the house wine is often the chef's favorite and an excellent choice. The French, bless them, do not abide poor wine. Here, the Merlot was as soft and dry as a toweled off baby after a tour in the tub. It was fit for Royalty, a royal wine snob, or anyone who simply likes things simple and good. The Vibe: Who goes there? Tourists who were underwhelmed with Le Pommier and thought they could do better. And we all did that here. So can you. The Food: There are Prix Fixe choices. All are beyond very reasonable and all different. Then there is a 4th menu offering you a choice of anything from the previous three menus in case you can't decide and finally there is an ala carte option. The Prix Fixe alternatives make the most sense and are the best value, so don't be that person. In the USA often the Blue Plate Special is usually a walk-in clean out. This is fairly priced fare in a country that isn't bashful about overcharging for chow. The Camembert Tart with Roasted Apples set on Puff Pastry positively oozed gooey cheese, melting like a suitor's heart. It was sweet, tart, and salty which are all fine attributes in a tarte, a tart and a significant other. It is accompanied by a perky simple fresh garden salad splashed with a light Vinaigrette. The Pork Pate masqueraded as Pate, but take off it's mask and you will find a wonderful Head Cheese. It had all the requisite piggy parts in gelatin. Blue Collar Pate it was and perfect for me. The pig doesn't grow it or own it that I won't eat it and like it. The key is to get the pig to stop wiggling while the chef helps himself to things the pig didn't want any more. Good for me. Then came the Skate Wing (how often do you see those?) My Wing was buried in butter and garlic and served with Sweet Potatoes piped into swirls, a pile-o-baby Vegetables all cooked al dente crisp along with a Spinach Timbale. Beautiful as a fashion show with each taste treat struttin' their stuff on the plate. The Chicken Fricasse with Frites, Baby Artichokes elevated Chicken to regal status. Braised in white wine it was stellar from it's thighs to yours. And in summation, there was a Apple Tarte with delicious house made Vanilla Ice Cream. (Good Vanilla Ice Cream is evidence that there is God. This Ice Cream made me a believer.) Both Ben and Jerry would commit crimes against nature in public to learn how to make this. The fresh Apples were cooked off until they were soft and then neatly arranged on a Puff Pastry tray that crisp and buttery. My evening began and ended with a tarte, so to speak, but I was happy to do my part. I ate it all and asked the four people at the next table if they were going to eat everything they ordered.

AMBIANCE: Upscale, beautiful and nicely decorated with a wood burning fireplace to take off the chill. SERVICE: We were a wee bit late but still warmly greeted by the manager, I presume. When we asked to switch tables we were met with a bit of resistance but we were accommodated, while our server looked on in disbelief. At that point our entire party saw the look of displeasure on her face and we saw the manager lady making fun of us; she surely didn't think we would see her. When they saw that we caught them they quickly recomposed themselves but we already felt the fake vibe and we could tell that we were 100% an annoyance to them for sure. As other reviews have mentioned it it turned out to not be the friendliest service. FOOD & DRINK: We started out with three appetizers of escargot, foie gras and a charcuterie platter with local meats. For entrees, we had chicken, Tripes and sea bass. We had a very lovely bottle of wine but we decided to forego dessert due to the uncomfortable vibe, and they did not hide their relief. The presentation of the food was nicely done but the taste was somewhat underwhelming, as other reviews have also mentioned, and given the price point and the forced service, it was a disappointingly average dinner.
