It is a non-profit and run by veteran educators and people who are passionate for Chinese/Taiwanese culture. It takes a village to run education and my top reasons for staying at this school are below. 1. The curriculum: It is well thought out and one of the teachers actually designed and wrote the textbooks! I absolutely love it. They also offer Traditional or Simplied textbooks so parents can pick their preference. 2. No affiliation with religious groups: Some Chinese schools in the area are affiliated with Churches or other religions and my family isn't religious. So this school makes the most sense for us. 3. Parental involvement: We love parents here help out, volunteer and chip in to make the school run better. The principal and his wife have dedicated their life to run the school and parents/volunteers help bring the school forward. What is most important to us is my son enjoys learning and can understand Chinese. He has picked up quite a lot and enjoy coming here every Saturday. When I just recently took him home to Taiwan, my parents were impressed with his Chinese and can communicate with him. To me, that is a major plus!

CACC truly stands out as one of the best Chinese schools in the Bay Area, thanks to its exceptional teachers. Unlike typical Chinese schools, CACC operates as a non-profit organization. It offers very competitive tuition rates. The school hosts a variety of cultural events throughout the year, such as the Mid-Autumn Festival party and the Chinese New Year gala. These events are fun band educational, helping kids and their families connect with Chinese traditions and heritage. In addition to Chinese language classes, CACC offers a wide range of enrichment classes for both children and adults. I have personally enjoyed taking singing and photography classes. These classes have not only helped me learn new skills but also allowed me to make many new friends. :) I highly recommend CACC to any family in the tri-valley area seeking a high-quality, community-focused Chinese school.

It opens on Sunday, so the parents can drop off the kids and enjoy adult class, and also can go to shopping during the kids learning time. Strongly suggest to register the class(s) there. You wont be disappointed. Your kid will love it!

My high schooler has since graduated from Tricity Chinese school and tested into Chinese 2 at James Logan high as a freshman. We basically switched because my kids could not keep up with the workload and demands of Yellow river. My husband does not speak mandarin and the environment at Tricity is more accommodating for mixed language families. The transition from simplified to traditional has been easier than I expected and pretty much a non issue for both kids. They went from dreading weekend chinese school and doing homework in tears at Yellow river, to being able to actually enjoy the language and do homework on their own with minimal help from me at Tricity. I would say that in itself speaks volumes. The school offer 2 streams, one is the traditional stream which starts with zhuyin in kindergarten and introduces pinyin by 4th grade. The other stream is the CFL (Chinese as a foreign language) which uses some English in the teaching. They also have electives after school and my son is taking the go chess class.

I found CCCS online - it's held at the Will C Wood Middle School on Saturday mornings. Our daughter takes both Kung Fu and their Kindergarten level Chinese class. The school is almost completely filled with families who speak Chinese, and teaches Mandarin using Simplified characters. It's not high pressure, and our 6yo loved her class - it was Pinyin only for the first year and there was no weekly homework (which I think might change as she gets to the older classes). She did learn to memorize some old Chinese poems, which ended up winning her a trophy at a city-wide Chinese competition in Rocklin (!). Her teacher is very encouraging and sweet and her Kung Fu teachers are strict but good. My only slight issue is that they use WeChat to communicate a lot of school events, and I believe most announcements are in Chinese, which makes it a bit difficult for non-heritage speakers. However, all important announcements (school closures, etc) were sent via email in both Chinese and English, so we didn't miss anything too important. We'll definitely be back next school year.

Having a solid block from 8am - 6pm at summer camp for 3 weeks was a nice throwback the the old, pre-pandemic normal days. My kids (ages 5 and 8) loved the hands-on STEM projects and outdoor time at the nearby playgrounds. We loved that they were able to make new friends, play and have some Mandarin language exposure. Weekly photos of what the kids did at camp were also shared which was nice because often times they forget details of their day and it helped to facilitate more conversation about their days. Su Yun was also really great about ensuring (as best they could) a safe environment with all the COVID prevention protocols in place. The summer adventure was completed without any issues or outbreaks. The staff was also so thoughtful! My younger son's birthday happened while at camp. We didn't say anything and then he came home with a small little goody bag of snacks and small little treats like pencils/erasers. It was a nice little surprise gift. With all of that said, we will definitely look into returning again next year!
