I have been ordering Burdick's Chocolates for about 40 years! Just before Christmas, 2025, I ordered a large box of chocolates to give as a gift. The box was delivered on a rainy day, I had no notice as to when it was delivered. WHen I opened the outer soaked box, the interior box was also wet. I could not give this as a gift. Burdick's Customer Service has been awful:unresponsive, uncaring, unprofessional. They told me, the one time they actually emailed me that it wasn't their problem, but a delivery issue. Absolutely a magical place! I went here on a recommendation from a coworker based on my travels through Brattleboro and she said this place cannot be missed and I totally agree! As soon as you walk in you are totally mesmerized. The string lights are breathtaking and the amount of chocolate items and just happy people are such amazing sight. My husband and I ordered their famous hot chocolate- I got dark and my husband got milk. Dark hot chocolate is honestly just so rare to me I had to get it- and I LOVE dark chocolate. This hot chocolate was out of this world- very pricey- but worth every sip! This cup will definitely fill you up for hours- it's so rich and creamy! My husband liked his milk chocolate more but I felt it was a little too sweet for my liking but it's all about preference here. After we had our hot chocolate we wanted to actually buy some legit chocolate that has been raved about. Prices are pretty intense but definitely can tell they put a lot of hard work into their craft. Dreadful customer service. This was once a good company but my most recent experience was awful. I had to call repeatedly to get a simple question answered and their repesentative was not just rude, but actively hostile. Used a name which was not mine. Did not say hello. Solved my problem by upcharging me for a delivery needed over a week in the future, and refused to say Thank You or Goodbye. Repulsive and absolutely unacceptable for an upscale company. read more

I really hate writing bad review, especially about a business we have loved in the past, but yesterday's visit to the "Tea Room" and chocolate shop left us terribly disappointed, and I don't think they were simply having a bad day. My wife normally buys a lot of chocolate products, then orders a dark hot chocolate and a couple chocolate croissants. in the past, the hot chocolate has been a virtual orgasm for the taste buds. It's very creamy and rich and we've never experienced a better chocolate flavor. The drink we had yesterday was as if they mixed Swiss Miss with water. We ate the croissants for breakfast this morning and while there's normally delicious Burdick's chocolate in every bite, today's might have contained half a gram. We both chewed through the dry pastry and finally detected chocolate in ONE bite each. If the people at Burdick's want to lower their food cost, DON'T do it by selling a terrible product to your local, repeat customers. We are not there to find bargains, but to enjoy superior products. Great way to spend a lazy Sunday, IMO. We had a late lunch next door and popped on over for afternoon tea. We got the raspberry chocolate cake, Earl grey mouse, burdicks cookie, passion fruit chocolate cake, and of course Earl grey tea. Burdicks offers artisan chocolates that are really delicious, rich and flavorful and very chocolatey. They come in a variety of forms including candies, cookies, cakes, mousse, etc. Take a gander at their shelves and you'll get the sense of different ways to consume your goodies. There's also a hot chocolate which is super rich and very thick, perhaps more than some people might prefer. We've always found the staffers here helpful and eager to direct us to various sections of the little shop. Prices are on the high side -- hot chocolate in excess of $7, for instance -- but keep in mind it's a specialty shop, and decide which chocolate appeals most. By the way, the smell in the shop is enough to make a chocolate lover feel near rapturous. Be warned! read more

A very nice meal, sadly marred by watching a waitress setting the next table. She held the spoons by their bowls, and the forks by their tines as she was placing them on the table- - - instead of grasping them by the handles. Hopefully that's not how the entire staff is being trained! And this was very unfortunate, because our meal was tasty, and the setting is very lovely. Their sweet little cup of no nonsense deliciousness was in my now Top 3 hot chocolates of all time. Thick and rich, flavorful and absolute perfection. I went with their recommendation for the cocoa of the month (it was July) and it was spot-on. We also shared a couple of scones that were baked perfectly and then we took a few chocolates to go. Buyer beware! Burdick's products are outstanding, but their customer service is inexplicably poor. They billed but never fulfilled my order. They did not seem aware of their mistake until I called three days after it had supposedly shipped, to inquire why the tracking never progressed. I asked for a refund, which they handled promptly, but an explanation and an apology were never offered, Why did it take a customer calling for them to realize something was wrong? If I hadn't called, would they have eventually gotten around to notifying me and issuing a refund? A few weeks later, I sent a polite inquiry as to what went wrong, to see if I could have confidence in ordering from them again. Now several weeks more have passed, and they still have not responded. By being so indifferent -- let alone to someone who has been a repeat customer for years in their stores and the restaurant -- they have lost my business, and they don't even care! read more

Amazing chocolates and scrumptious desserts. I would compare the quality of the chocolates to La Maison du Chocolat and the cakes to offerings at good French patisserie or German konditorei. What a charming little shop we found in New Hampshire. It's filled with artisan chocolate and fancy deserts. The one thing that stood out to me was their signature mice. They are a little pricy but you have to expect that from a shop like this. My husband and I got one mouse each. I got the milk chocolate which was delicious. Definitely worth the $4. Love, love, love this place! I've been coming here for the past 25 years and have been here at least a half a dozen times. First saw Burdick years ago when it was featured on Martha Stewart. Had to come and see what they were all about. Today I had a dark/light chocolate cocoa with fresh whipped cream and chocolate shavings. And I ordered the large! And I could have had two more! This place is so beautiful and has exquisite desserts. You won't be disappointed by their candy and they also have mail order. I would like to start the review by saying I had never been to a gourmet chocolate shop before, so I had no idea what to expect. While traveling on the east coast my wife decided she wanted to stop here to pick up a couple of gifts/souvenirs for her coworkers. This was a different experience all together for me. As someone who doesn't like chocolate this was definitely an oddity. They had all shapes and sizes of chocolates available at seemingly very high prices, including bars of chocolate (about the size of a Herseys) for up to 10 dollars. We picked up a couple of small chocolate mice, they offered maybe 1oz of chocolate for something like 4 dollars a piece. I hear these were very good, but it seemed like maybe I didn't have a sophisticated enough palate to distinguish this from Dove, or other commercially produced chocolate. That being said, all of the people I went with seemed to really enjoy theirs, so I'm mostly rating this place based off of ambience, selection, and their word that it was good high quality chocolates, although my white chocolate mouse didn't exactly impress. read more

If you are into hot chocolate, or really any kind of chocolate, this is a must stop in Walpole. The storefront is adorable and fancy, luxury store meets small town New England charm. I was worried we were underdressed in hoodies and jeans, but after watching others come and go I realized a lot of the clientele are tourists in casual dress. Walking in, there is a large glass case filled with baked treats and past the case, the drink menu is above the counter. About half of the drink menu are various kinds of hot chocolate. They have descriptions with tasting notes for each chocolate to help you decide if you'd like to try one of their specialty single source chocolates, which is what I recommend. They also had several teas and espresso drinks. Seating indoors and out. We decided on a selection of treats: the raspberry tart, Linzer torte, Harvard Square, and chocolate raspberry cake. I think the raspberry tart may have been a special item because I didn't see it on their regular menu. It was my favorite. Buttery crust and so many raspberries, tart and not too sweet. The Harvard Square was also fantastic - it's this dense, fudgy chocolate cake with walnuts and chocolate ganache. The quality of the chocolate was top notch. I loved that while it was rich, again, it was not super sweet. The chocolate raspberry cake was more of the same, moist, rich, lots of chocolate flavor and not cloying. I think a lot of these desserts are geared more towards adults because nothing we tried was overly sweet, which I really appreciated. We did not sample any of their actual chocolates, but hope to next time. Apparently they are known for the chocolate mice, which were pretty adorable. For drinks, I got a caramel latte (made with homemade caramel!) and my fiancé got the single source Grenada dark hot chocolate. The tasting notes for his chocolate were banana, coffee, and nutmeg, and it delivered on all 3 and they came together in the strangest and most wonderful way. This is no Swiss Miss. This hot chocolate is not sweet. But man was it gooooood. I think it might be the best hot chocolate either of us ever had. My caramel latte was great, but it didn't compare to this hot chocolate. I would love to come back and get a few different ones so we could compare the difference in flavors each unique chocolate provides. One downside: this place is expensive. Maybe a little too expensive. It is a treat. I couldn't buy a $7.75 hot chocolate regularly. When you are told there will be same day shipping and are charged accordingly $$$ - that's only true if you place your order before a specific time! Sent another and received a reply from a customer care representative. Problem is that the response didn't express any care for the customer. I grew up on Old Walpole Road. Our house was located in Keene at the start of Old Walpole Road. As you would expect Old Walpole Road is the road they once took to Walpole village. Well I never knew growing up that Burdick's chocolates would fast become my favorite chocolate. I would have been making the trip up Old Walpole Road weekly to get my fix. I have to admit these are my favorite chocolates on the East Coast. Read some of my previous reviews and you will know my favorite on the West Coast. Walpole is a quaint New England town where all the buildings around the town square are painted white and quite grand. Burdick's chocolates can be found in the town square on Main Street. Walking into the shop you just know you are going to love it. They allow you to taste just about everything (so it seemed). There were sample trays everywhere you turned. I was that "kid in a candy store". the Healthy Bar Set is worth checking out. Order it via mail you won't regret it. When I found out L.A.Burdick has a store/restaurant in New Hampshire - before my trip to Squam lake - I knew I had to visit. I have had their hot chocolate a few years ago, and it really is simply the best. Service was OK - but they definitely deserve five star for their product, and the atmosphere. The interior is beautifully decorated, it looks similar to old world confectionaries. I tried the iced version of the hot chocolate - it was heavenly. I have to agree with Cindy J below. The customer service is terrible. I was consistently talked down to and treated poorly while trying to rectify an issue over the course of three weeks. Eventually, I was told to send an email to reach a manager. Thus far, there has been no response after a number of days. At the prices they charge, customer service should be impeccable. This company seems to focus on growth over treating customers right. Since the original owner sold out, things have never been the same. There are too many quality chocolatiers out there. Burdicks is a popular local business with a fine dining restaurant, a gourmet grocery store and they are, perhaps, best known for their chocolates (which are fancy and delectable) but, I love their coffee shop! The baristas are friendly and patient even when they get busy. And the coffee is yummy, while the hot chocolate is "as rich and thick as chocolate bars " just like in the Polar Express! The only criticism I have is that the curtains to prevent drafts are too light weight and so on chilly days, it can get a little cold in there. read more

Great chocolates. Customer service was condescending and unsupportive. My package was not delivered was notified. When I reached out after 3 days of being told by UPS that the package would be delivered by the end of the day, I was told I had to wait and fill out a form. When I tried to speak with a customer service person at Burdicks I was met with a lecture about COVID, with no regard to my over 25 years as a good customer. My efforts to try to share more were met with additional lecturing. My package was eventually found, not on my road, but in a snow bank by someone who almost drove over it. The chocolates were frozen solid and no longer able to be used as a gift. My message from UPS was that the package was delivered to my front door last night. Or, next message, it was to be delivered by 9:00 today. Take your pick. I will address UPS as well. It takes just one poor experience to sour a years long customer relationship. Fortunately there are other chocolatiers who provide a superb product in Vermont. Customer service is critical. What a beautiful place. Their Christmas decorations were just wonderful. I love their hot chocolate. They also have lovely gift boxes, and the chocolates are delicious. It's also nice that they're open early in the morning for coffee. The service can be kind of rude...I've been treated like an inconvenience when ordering. I can get past that, but it definitely might upset some people. After all, this is a pure luxury boutique. I CANNOT PROVE A NEGATIVE. The rep was rude, the manager was rude, and I finally gave up on the $32 of merchandise I did NOT receive. They would not make good on it. I was in the neighbourhood for a wedding, and we had some time to kill, so the ladies all ventured over to Burdick's. Its located in an adorable old building, on Main Street, much like the town I grew up in. You half expect to turn around and see your neighbour. We drooled in the chocolate shop, but ultimately didn't get anything. I understand it is a gourmet store, but the prices are rather steep. I really couldn't afford more than the one small hot chocolate and macaron I purchased. Not to fear though! The bride and groom had thought ahead, and their wedding favours were three good sized chocolate hearts that I enjoyed in pieces throughout the next workweek. Delicious! read more
