Amy wanted a Jr steak bowl with shrimp. The shrimp added $10 to the jr bowl price to be $17, so instead, I ordered the jumbo bowl with shrimp and steak for $15. Amy's food was good. Then my meal was the teriyaki chicken entree. It was the saltiest teriyaki sauced chicken I've ever eaten. Tasted like they scraped the grill into the sauce and my tongue is numb. It was 2pm and the onions and zucchini were cold, like cooked before opening cold. Took a chance and could only eat a third of it. Hard pass. read more

Kyoto's Express has ALWAYS been my go-to when I am craving some Hibachi (steak and shrimp) with veggies and rice ... along with some sushi of course!!! I have tried their teriyaki chicken and it is FIRE! THE WHITE SAUCE THOUGH ... I have not found any other white sauce in Glynn County that compares to theirs. . . and that in itself reflects how DELISH this place is! Way too expensive for the little dried food you get. I ordered the large shrimp bowl combo with salad. The large is the size of the small for you pay the price of the large. The salad was small too. The only thing large was the drink. There were 5 shrimp total and about 7 broccoli the rest was rice. You get all this for a total almost $15 plus tax. Never going back. Sumos is where I'll stay for Japanese food. Kyotos needs to do better. The service needs much to be desired too. read more

Atmosphere is pleasant and clean. Staff are friendly and respectful. Everything is self service so not sure what there is a random bar charge for..... few, but reasonable menu options. It's always been great, though I think the quality of their chicken has declined a bit in the last couple years. I'd stick to steak. The food is generally top-notch, they are efficient and the food is almost always prepared to order. The price is a few dollars more than it used to be, but it's still worth every penny. Also, the rewards program helps even out the change in price. I was curious why everyone was asking for extra sauce and getting about 8 cups of sauce for a to go order, but I came to realize that you need it because that is the only flavor this food has. read more

So I are here twice once for the grill and rice dishes, second for sushi. I thought both were just okay...both times it was not high on my places to go especially the second time. I was with friends and we were hungry so it was just what we found near by. Overall the food was tasty, the prices were high, and it's a self service establishment. Love this restaurant! Every time I visit family in the area I stop by here to eat. Kyoto Express is the only Japanese food in the area that tastes authentic. Their prices are nowhere near reasonable for their sizes. I ordered a side of broccoli I have many complaints starting with the size they want $2 for practically 4 pieces. My other complaint is in regards of how they cooked their broccoli with SHRIMP which may I add I am allergic to. The allergic reaction wasn't even worth it being that it tasted absolutely disgusting. The only reason I even came to this place is because Sumo's is closed for the virus otherwise I would have been there. Save your time and your money and go to Sumo across the street. Great for fast food. Compared to every other Japanese fast food I've had- probably the best among them. I only eat the veggie dishes and it's consistently good. I ask for light sauce. Just like a Japanese steakhouse without the cost. This is the best Japanese restaurant in Brunswick. i have been eating here for years and the food is always great. It is also remarkable they have NEVER made a mistake on my meal. The prices have gone up over the years but for the amount of food you get and the quality of the restaurant it is well worth it. The restaurant is always very clean too. You will likely spot employees cleaning while you are there; considering the volume of traffic they receive it is impressive how tidy the place is always kept. They also started a rewards program not long ago. They save your phone number and when you spend $50 you receive $5 off your next meal. LOVE this place. read more

Ok mixed review. I got the super bowl which is a bed of rice, veggies and meat (steak, chicken, shrimp) which was tasty and filled me up. The shrimp were pretty big and the chicken sauce was great. The steak was good as well. @ $12 it is on the edge of too much for a quick stop restaurant but the portions are big enough to justify. One the other end I tried the spring rolls. $4 for 3 tiny little fried veggie rolls was underwhelming to say the least. And to top it off it looked and tasted like the appetizer rolls you get at Costco. In all for a quick eat that's not fast food it was a good place to go. read more

I stopped in about a week ago to eat lunch. I haven't lived there for several years and was visiting friends, and was needing my "Kyoto Express Fix". My friend and I went in and I immediately noticed the empty booths at peak hours. I felt some trepidation as they are usually packed to the seams at this time. We went on to get our food. I ordered a premium steak bowl and California Rolls. My friend order a steak and shrimp bowl and a Cali Roll too, plus drinks. Needless to say, the food was below second-rate. The rice was overcooked, there were no mushrooms with my steak, both steaks were ordered medium rare and came well done. They had ZERO seasonings. The Cali Rolls were loosely rolled and every time I picked one up to dip into my soy/wasabi it fell apart. I was extremely disappointed for an almost $50 meal set (prices went up too) for two people at LUNCH! The kitchen crew looked really young and inexperienced. I think they lost their Japanese crew to Seasons of Japan down the road. I will go there from now on when I am in Brunswick. I refuse to spend that kind of money for slop. read more

Think fast food version of a Japanese steak house. Local favorite and the quality is good for the price.
