We came to Kwon's Karate based on a friend's recommendation. Master Kwon was extremely accommodating and allowed us to start with a trial class. I was immediately taken with the instructor's ability to get the kids focused and energized, even after a day at school. My kids have been taking instructions here for 3 months and I am extremely pleased with their progress. This studio has found the right balance of teaching in a fun and motivating manner, but not at the sacrifice of teaching respect, style, and form. As a parent I feel like I am paying for my kids to get serious instructions. There is real accountability for attendance and progress to earn your belts. It has been amazing to watch the quiet and shy kids grow into their more confident selves. The instructors make a point to have every person in class lead at some point during the session. What an amazing experience it has been to have our family join Kwon's Karate Studio. It started with my four sons. I was so impressed with the discipline and positive gains, that I decided to try it myself. The entire Kwon family is so welcoming and helpful. I've been practicing Soo Bahk Do for around 9 years and I have to say Kwon's Karate is THE place to be if you want to learn a traditional Korean martial art. The founder of the school, Master HY Kwon, is truly a genius at the art, teaching his pupils the ins and outs of Soo Bahk Do. If that isn't good enough his two children, Master Dae Keun Kwon and Master Esther Kwon, also manage and teach the school. Excellent Soo Bakh Do studio!!! I first joined with the goal of getting my legs stronger because I was having trouble with balance. After attending for several months now, there has been a huge improvement in not only my legs, but my whole body as well. With my training, I've also built up endurance. I've gotten much stronger since I first started and I've also met some great people. It is an incredible environment to not only learn martial arts but to also have fun in the process.The instructor, Dr. D.K Kwon is a very kind and an amiable teacher. What got me interested in this particular dojo was the teacher was also a physical therapist. Okay a more thorough review this time. I've been training Soo Bahk Do (the style that the Kwons teach here) for almost a decade now. It's a Korean martial art taught in the traditional military manner: standardized techniques through committee and frequent instructor training, emphasis on group learning and acting as a family (we're there to help each other learn), rank and chain of command. The Kwon family are some of the best instructors out there. Hyuk Yoon Kwon, the head instructor at this dojang, is one of the highest ranking members in Soo Bahk Do. His two children, Dae Keun and Esther are also instructors that maintain the high level of martial competency. No matter what your age, from toddlers to the elderly, you'll be well taken care of. Old school Korean Karate. This is an authentic, "live what you teach" type of do-jang. We have sent our kids here for years, and they've learned so much more than just forms, kicks and punches. They have gained focus, respect, courage, friendship and, most of all, self-esteem. Only recently have I come to understand how accomplished the masters at Kwon's are. The owner, Master Kwon, is one of the highest ranking members of the US Soo Bahk Do, and an 8th degree black belt. I have heard some other black belts drive long distances to train here. My 3rd Grade son has been a student of Kwon's Tae Kwon Do program for almost three years now. While I have studios in my town that offer the same sport, good friends recommended the extra few miles drive and I can tell you, it's worth it. I've trained at one or two different schools, and I can easily say that Kwon's Karate is the best school I've trained in so far. I've been sending my children here for a few weeks and it's been such a great experience. There's a good teacher to student ratio making it an environment where I know my kids are not getting lost in the crowd and I can see them learning something new or building on their skills every week. My daughter is really enjoying learning Soo Bahk Do at Kwon's Karate. Everyone in the studio, from the Masters to the staff, are helpful and friendly. The instructors work well with the kids, being strict and providing discipline when necessary yet still making it fun for the kids. It never ceases to amaze me at the depth of experience that the members of this school have. All are willing to help the less inclined members at almost anytime. Many came from other disciplines and bring their unique experiences into their training.
