I guess it's kind of a typical convenience store--but for Riverwest, where usually nothing's all that typical. They have snacks and beer and a small selection of groceries. But some of the selection is kind of eclectic. The beer selection is definitely way better than a typical convenience store's. When I found a 6-pack of Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Extra last summer I knew this place was kind of special. You can also get the 18-pack of Bell's Two Hearted in cans, which you don't see everywhere. Even the food is a little surprising. Among all the chips and limited-selection cans of soup there's El Rey tortilla chips and Herdez salsas and stuffed grape leaves and little refrigerated carrot cakes and pizzas that aren't Tombstone and so on. A totally interesting item I saw were these little single-serving-size stuffed eggplants (or green peppers) with the ingredients listed in several languages including Turkish. I could see that there was even a small plastic fork included. I was intrigued but I couldn't find, well, instructions. Maybe another day. The aisles are narrow and they don't have hot food. But this is definitely a neighborhood gem. I should come more often. As a Riverwest dweller I'm on Locust St. enough.

Though the selection is definitely smaller than your average, full-size Sendik's there is still plenty to pick from. They've got all of your staples for food, drink (alcoholic and non), and convenience items (i.e. dish soap, toilet paper, etc). Plus, so many fresh options for an easy meal, including rotating hot bar, fresh fruit veg, and more. I will say however, it's on the expensive side. I have to tell myself to not be surprised my the total at check-out. I've not long just moved to the area and already popped into this place plenty of times. Didn't have time to make dinner - stopped in for a quick pick up. On the way to my brother's house for a Packer game - stopped in to choose from their very vast beer, wine, and liquor sections. Hosted friends at our house - stopped in to grab some ready-made apps. Had a hungry toddler while on the go - stopped in for snacks. It's also conveniently connected to a gas station with plenty of pumps. The store itself is very nice as well. Super clean and updated interior. Everything is nicely presented. The first pump I went to was leaking gas out of the handle where the hose connects. It got all over…read moremy tire. The handle was stuck but wasn't pumping, it took me a minute to get it unstuck to put it back then I went to a different pump and that handle also got stuck, but wasn't pumping the gas. It was easier to get unstuck and I restarted. The tap to pay was ruined on that one, but at least it didn't leak. There are no options that don't contain 10% ethanol which is no good...I don't want ethanol in my car. Some locations still do no ethanol. I also went to use the windshield wash and it stunk so bad like it hadn't been changed for 2 weeks, the water was definitely rancid. The other one had 2 handles in it and they were also stuck in the washer container. Everything I tried is stuck at this location. I will be avoiding this location now for gas needs.

I have seen elderly women approach the door and then turn away to avoid confronting someone who is begging for change. I guess Sendiks is doing so well that they can afford to lose the business, but customers should not be required to run this kind of gauntlet. It has become an every day, unpleasant occurrence.
