So I bring it to Aaron and his team and Randy figured it out and fixed it. I cannot tell you how happy we are to finally resolve this squeaky issue and can drive our truck with no annoying sounds. They actually did a custom electric cut off valve for our Flowmaster exhaust that is like no other. Ever…read more Carpro Auto Repair is located in Baytown next to a couple of used car dealerships, a carwash etc. The block is filled with a lot of random cars that are questionable if they are operable or used for spare parts. Most likely, the cars are fixed up and 'sold' to the used car dealerships. Their office is dingy. Dirty and oily waiting room with no a/c and a disgusting bathroom. They do not have an answering machine for their phone line. The owner is out of the office 80% of the time which leaves for miscommunication between the employees and the customers. The employees are somewhat friendly. They'll joke with you. They will do business with you on a good ole fashion handshake. My situation: I took my truck there on July 1st based on a referral from a co-worker. My co-worker's uncle has taken many cars there and was pleased with their work. My truck has a problem with its engine leaking oil leading to smoke clouds coming out the exhaust. The owner took a look of the truck, started up the engine and speculated that it may be valve seals. He gave me an estimated price. I agreed to it and out of good faith gave him half the money for it up front. He agreed I could make payments on the repair. Very cool. He estimated the truck would be ready on July 6-7th. I rented a car so I can go to work. On July 7th, I called and asked of the status of the repair. The employees said that the owner has not been in the office and was in and out of the hospital and repair might not be finished until July 10th. On July 10th, I did not hear anything back from them so I called them up. One of the employees said that the truck was still being worked on. I drove to carpro and spoke to the owner directly. He apologized, said that the work was taking longer than expected and he agreed to have truck ready on July 13. On July 13th, I called Carpro and asked the status. They said it was 'ready' and that I can pick it up. So after work, I picked it up and drove it home. The truck still had the same problems. I drove it back to the shop on July 14th. The owner said the problem with the truck is further in my engine and would require more work. He said that if I leave it with him on July 15th, he would work the 15th, 16th and have it ready on the 17th. He apologized for the lack of communication. On the 18th, I called and asked for the status of it, the employees said the owner was not in the office for the day. I asked the employee if the truck had been worked on, the employee said no. When I called back 3 hours later, they said it was worked on and the employee just didnt know.. On the 19th, I called and the owner picked up the phone. He said that he was waiting for a tool to get deeper into the engine. He said Nissan engines were harder to work on. I asked him "If you knew you needed this tool, why are you telling me this on the 19th from me calling you? Why aren't you making efforts to call me" He apologized. I asked him for the name of the specific tool he was trying to get. He didn't know the name of it. After a couple hours, I called him and we agreed that I'd get my truck back to original and he'd refund me the money. On the 20th, I picked up my truck, my refund and I now have to start the whole repair process over with another mechanic. I've burnt over $700 in rental fees. I've inconvenienced friends for 'drop offs' at the place expecting to pick up the truck. And now after examining my truck, I noticed a scrape mark on my front right bumper. So in other words, I left carpro in worth shape than when I started. My co-worker is ashamed by even giving me that referral. Throughout the 20 days the truck was with Carpro, they have not made 1 outbound call to me. All communication has been initiated by me when they did not meet their own estimations. Horrible horrible service. If I had the time, I would consider a small claims court suit against them to recoup my rental car fees, the damage to my bumper and punitive charges. I will be reporting them to the BBB. Horrible.

In one instance, what was going to cost me 600 to fix, he did for 200. In another, I had taken my car to be fixed 3 times at another shop, he fixed in ONE TRIP. You can't call, he has no receptionist, and they rarely answer the phone. You have to stop by. They are a busy shop - so don't expect a speedy fix, but they will actually fix it the first time correctly for a LOT less than anyone else in town. I had an older car - which was breaking down constantly for one thing or another. He figured out the list and told me how long I could wait to address certain issues, helped me budget all the issues to get my old beater back into shape. My son drove it another 4 years before it had to go back to the shop for ANYTHING. I love Terri and his mechanics. They are always busy - and there is ALWAYS another day or three to wait from the estimate of time, but when it is finished he sticks to his estimate and he makes sure it was done right. I am a customer for life. Speaking of which, taking that beater in for one more band-aid today. First time in 4 years it has needed fixing. It just has to hold on a few more months! Years ago I had an SUV that just died while I was getting gas nearby. I walked to McBroom's since it was the closest shop (right across a side street actually). I asked if I could use their phone to call a tow truck, but one of their mechanics volunteered to come and look at my SUV and try to start it for me. This went on for about an hour until he finally decided to tow it with his own truck to their garage. The next day, my car was running so I picked it up and drove it to my side of town. It died after about 20 minutes. So why such a glowing review if my truck/SUV wasn't actually fixed? I was charged nothing for the time and effort that this mechanic put into my car. Yes, he didn't totally fix it, but he did what he could to the best of his abilities and for FREE!! Most people in the Houston area wouldn't even bother to look at one of your troubled autos without agreeing to a $75-100 fee first! I guess McBroom's is just proof that while we all complain about mechanics there are still some good ones out there. You may just need to get out to the suburbs to find them!

An update from my original review. The bolts on the oil pan I had these people put on were not…read moreproperly torque down. As a result, the gasket between the pan and engine did not properly seal leading to it leaking. The parts had no issues with them and the installation failed. A gasket failure could only be fixed by taking the pan back off and because I was not in the area I had to get it fixed elsewhere. After learning why it failed I made several attempts to contact McCrary's and let several voice mails explaining the situation but none of my calls have been answered nor have I been called back. I would not take my vehicle here even if it broke down in front of their shop as they cannot preform something as simple as torquing the bolts down properly to is sure the part stays in place. These people can't preform basic installation steps and will avoid you if you try to get your money back after they fail the job.

The vehicle remained at the shop for over a year, and throughout that time we were repeatedly told that repairs were being completed. When the vehicle was finally returned to us, it continued to have the same issues it had when it was originally dropped off. We recently sought an independent inspection from a certified Mini Cooper technician and were informed that many of the repairs we paid for do not appear to have been performed. According to the technician, the vehicle remains in substantially the same condition as before. We have attempted to resolve this matter directly with the shop but have not received a satisfactory explanation or resolution. Complaints have been filed with the Better Business Bureau and the Texas Attorney General's Office. I am sharing this because I wish someone had warned us. If you are considering major repairs on your vehicle, I strongly encourage you to obtain detailed documentation, ask for old parts to be returned, and consider getting a second opinion before authorizing expensive repairs. If anyone in the Kingwood area has had a similar experience, I would appreciate hearing from you.

We've trusted the first two shops for years and have always taken our vehicles there, so we were surprised when we got such a different diagnosis. A friend recommended West Lake Houston Automotive, and we decided to give them a chance. After properly diagnosing the issue, they found the real problems: an oil pan issue and a bad passenger CV joint. They replaced both for a total of $817 out the door. The Pilot is running like new again! Huge shoutout to West Lake Houston Automotive for their honesty, professionalism, and for taking the time to actually diagnose the problem instead of jumping straight to a major repair.
