They're currently working on a limited menu, but if you don't want to order off it, you can just tell the chef the protein and spice level you want and he'll make you a dish. It was spectacular! We had a party of 6, so we got 2 chicken, 1 pork, 2 vegetarian, and 1 fish dish. The Naan was perfectly seasoned and came with chutneys for days! Now for the best part... the samosas. We got 2 orders and it came with 4 different chutneys. The main dishes had all different flavors and spices to give you an idea of the sorts of dishes that the chef could make as well as show off the spices. We have baby mouths so we got level 1 spice, but we tried a few of the higher spice levels. Ambiance (5/5): It had very cozy vibes, like someone's house. The water fixture was a perfect touch to adding background noise with the music. Lots of golds, reds, and artwork on the walls to give you an authentic experience. Service (5/5): The service was epic. We got here at 1pm and started chatting with the staff about the menu; she brought out the chef and we all got to talking about food, allergies, and likes/dislikes. The chef asked for a protein & spice level and made each of us a special dish. We had 6 curries on the table shortly with 2 bowls of Naan and 2 plates of rice. After our meal, we were not rushed out, even though they closed 30 mins prior (they have limited hours, so call ahead to make sure they're open)! We talked to the staff and found out that due to covid & a hit-and-run that demolished part of their building, the staff are volunteers who have been regulars for 13+ years! Yes -- it is very possible he misunderstood you, and the plastic sheet actually makes me think that's more likely than him thinking, "Yep, this table is filthy; let's just cover it." A couple things could have happened: If there was a language barrier, "rag" is a particularly easy word to miss. It's colloquial English and not necessarily a word someone learns early. "Can I get something to clean/wipe the table?" would probably have translated more clearly. In some Kurdish/Middle Eastern restaurants, disposable plastic table coverings are normal, especially for meals with lots of shared dishes, bread, rice, grilled meats, etc. So he may have understood your request as "we need something on the table" rather than "please clean the table." He may also have interpreted your gesture toward the table as asking for a tablecloth/cover, and thought he was solving exactly what you wanted. The hilarious/awful part is that putting down clear plastic apparently created a museum-quality display case for the grime underneath. If the table was genuinely covered in old food, grease, crumbs, etc., though, that's obviously a cleanliness issue regardless of the misunderstanding. The misunderstanding could explain why he brought plastic instead of a rag; it doesn't explain why the table was that dirty to begin with. So yes: I'd give him pretty good odds of having misunderstood "rag." I would give the table no such benefit of the doubt.
