We walked through the Japanese Garden, Rose Garden, an adorable set up of a water conservation garden, cacti/succulent garden and had a relaxing break on the swing facing the pond filled with turtles and ducks. Make sure you stop inside the high humidity garden and the indoor cacti garden with a unique display of various cacti. There is also a really nice children's garden/area and the botanical garden is child friendly in general. There are a lot of spots to enjoy your lunch. I suggest bringing snacks or your lunch. I didn't see any places to purchase food. Parking is free. We visited midweek and it was pretty mellow. A gift shop is located at the entrance. Overall, this botanical garden is at the top of my list and it's definitely worth a visit.

Parking was plentiful and easy. Entry is $18 per adult, $16 with military discount. The park is well paved and divided into themed sections. See pic of map below. And in addition, there were 11 beautiful art installations related to plants throughout the park to admire and take pics. Love the symbiotic flow between garden and art. I really enjoyed Pineywoods Lake- gorgeous wooded area with cabins, and lots of benches to sit, relax, and enjoy nature. Vibrant cardinals high up in the trees were singing and turtles were lounging and catching sun rays on a small island in the middle of the lake. Another fave was the Lucile Halsey Conservatory area. The multi color Flowy Flora in Flight resides there and caught my eye. The area also housed the Desert pavilion, fern grotto, tropical conservatory, and palm and cycad pavilion. So many interesting plants and landscaped in a meticulous manner. Couldn't get enough : D Plan to spend about 2-2 1/2 hours and we brought lunch and had a nice picnic near the lake. Cute gift shop and coffee near entrance. I'll be back.

I am so happy to have found a new park in the southtown/downtown area!…read more Hemisfair park is usually my go-to place to take my kiddo in the mornings, but that park can get super chaotic during spring break or other holidays, which is not very ideal. A friend recommended Labor Park and mentioned it was only a couple blocks away from Hemisfair. The park itself is very nice and you can tell the city has taken good care of it. I really like that they have a covered playground which is a major plus during hot summer days (playgrounds can get HOT y'all). They also have a nice baseball field for the little ones, a basketball court, and some gym equipment which kids love to play with. On our time there, we saw a couple other families playing around and enjoying the nice weather. Overall it is a nice neighborhood park!

Southtown outdoors gym! The Labor Street Park has been…read morerenovated and reopened! It's been transformed into an outdoor exercise area! It used to be an empty, decrepit lot in Southtown, but now has trees, a backstop and baseball diamond, outdoor gym equipment, and trees to hang out under. This park used to be a crumbling area, but a local kickball team took up as their cause to clean it up, patch the potholes, and get the park up and running. It used to be owned with the San Antonio Housing Authority, but it was only recently granted to the city. The local kickball team got sponsored by the city, and Coca-Cola, who funded the renovation of the park, and sponsors ongoing exercise classes with the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department, so check their website for schedules. I heard that they're hiring lots of veterans to teach exercise boot camps to civilians at no cost. They've got lots of gym equipment out here to enjoy, so you can get your pump on for free. The picnic area is a nice place to get a post-workout snack. Parking is easy- all on the streets, but the area isn't controlled by downtown events parking, so you can generally always find a spot in here for downtown parking, but it's a bit of a hike. Overall, it's a pretty good park that's been redone, giving other options for parks in the southtown area! I'd recommend checking it out. It's a wonderful example of how a local grassroots movement took charge to do something positive for San Antonio!

Yanaguana is one of the best (if not the best) kid playground/park in the city!…read more Yanaguana Garden is located within Hemisfair. The park itself includes multiple sections for all ages including the main playground which was designed to be an inclusive space and follows the American Disabilities Act standards for public playgrounds. A new toddler play area which is perfect for babies and toddlers. There is also the Union Pacific splash pad which is only open during certain months of the year, so make sure to check their calendar for hours. They also have a sand play area, as well as another section with small games like ping pong, chess and many more games. Overall, this garden/park offers a wide range of outdoor activities for people of all ages. I've been taking my kid here since he was born and as he is growing and exploring new areas of Yanaguana I can truly see how well thought off this park is. To all the locals that don't travel to downtown too often, I would definitely recommend giving this park a chance before winter comes. Also, for all the tourists coming with little ones that need the space to run around for a couple of hours, this is most definitely the spot for you!

Beautifully maintained clean park for the entire family, friends catching up, or just chilling out…read moresolo. There's separate picnic tables by the Kimpton hotel side that's great for a quick meal too. Lots of splash pads and shaded areas with chairs for the parents to watch from a distance. Bathrooms aren't super clean but I think there's other spots less frequented where babies/toddlers can go for a quick change of clothes. Parking is going to be a challenge on the weekends but paid parking isn't too far away.

At 1pm today (Friday), the park was pretty empty and no one was on the pickleball courts. The courts have a little wear and tear, as evidenced by some cracking in the asphalt. Not too terrible, though. We didn't need a championship-style court. We putz around. Ha, ha. The park itself is very well maintained. The area is clean with trash cans and recycling cans throughout. Very ample parking. The sports amenities are governed by parks and recreation. The senior center in the middle of the park is not under their purview. Besides pickleball, the park has several full-size softball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts and an exercise area. The senior center has daily activities as posted on their monthly calendar. Pool tables, foosball, bingo, and an awesome exercise room with bicycles, weights and treadmills. You have to be 60+ to have access to all the amenities of the senior center. You register on line and pay a low fee to join. A hot meal is served at lunch, Mon-Fri. The caveat is that you eat it there; you can't take it home. There are also periodic food bank distributions. I played city softball at this park over 40 years ago and it used to be quite ghetto. They have really spruced up the place in the ensuing years. Very nice now.
