Why? To me, the lake is big enough to give you some interesting things to see and explore, but not too big that you can't see it all in a few hours. There are two docks you can launch from - one on either side of Brubaker Valley Road. It was mid-morning on a weekday and there were seven or eight other kayaks out there (mostly people fishing) and a few small boats that were also fishing. Plenty of wildlife with a Bald Eagle, a deer, a few Blue Heron and fish constantly jumping out of the water. At the far west end of the lake, where it gets shallow and you come to where it gets fed by the Hammer Creek, you expect to see a lot of ducks, turtles, frogs and since you're at the side of the Speedwell Forge Wolf Sanctuary - you can hear some barking & howling and even catch a few glimpses through the trees of a few of the residents running around. Fwiw, I can imagine that on weekends, this place getting very crowded and while it does have some size to it, compared to some other county/state parks, it's not that big. We did most of the trails in under an hour and found this beautiful overlook. There was another bench below. Checked the map and back in the truck and on to the main entrance on county Park road which is about opposite of st. Peter road. You'll pass the remains of the Knauer barn on the left and soon arrive at the the park entrance also on the left. Plenty of parking, playground and office. Found the trail. This one was a little muddy. Found the other bench in about 15 minutes. Looking forward to returning and exploring more of this very historic area. Get the map. It is very helpful.

It isn't just dogs not on leashes. I was so sad to read the signs for no dogs at all. I also read that there have been some geese that are very territorial at this park. They have no common courtesy, nor do they have any sense for rules of boating. They seem to roam in packs and have no consideration for other than themselves! The other issue is the location of handicapped parking. The only parking place is designated for handicapped parking are located quite a distance from the docking area, and it makes it hard to get close without being dropped off and then going back to get the car later. There are however, handicap spaces marked for trucks or cars with trailers, which are located very close to the docking area, but none designated for just vehicles with handicapped placards.

One of my favorite places ever Our family has enjoyed camping here many years. There is a medium…read moresized lake with a beach area and plenty of room outside of that to fish and boat. The sites have a nice amount of trees in them and privacy between spots. We prefer the beach loop which is all tent camping. It usually is cold enough in the summer to need hoodies at night. There are a ton of chipmunks and squirrels. Make sure your food is secured well as they will find it and have chewed through our plastic totes to get to it. This morning we found that they got our chocolate bars, took them up into a tree and were dropping them half eaten onto the ground. Wildlife is nothing to mess with, they will cut you.

I rented the House with the patio that overlooks the Perkiomen Creek for a family baby shower. It was so nice and cozy inside and has plenty of seating. The photos turned out nice. Many compliments on the location. I would definitely rent this house in the park again! The great thing about this particular park is you can see many joggers, bike riders, and horse back riding on the Perkiomen trail in the park; but there is enough space to not feel crowded. Otts exotic plants is nearby and makes a nice day trip if you have time to stop at both places.

The Perkiomen Creek is a beautiful sight, very reminiscent of the Neshaminy Creek in Bucks County. Yes, the Perkiomen Trail is a rail trail, you can read about it on Wikipedia.
