I like this park. It is peaceful and there is plenty of parking. There is a monster hill. So beware if you are not in shape. My only issue with this park is that it prohibits dogs. It isn't just dogs not on leashes. I was so sad to read the signs for no dogs at all. I also read that there have been some geese that are very territorial at this park. That is a more recent situation. read more

I remembered this to be a nice little hike around the lake from when I worked at a local business 10 years ago. Coming back to the area for takeout from Trio Bar & Grill, I intended to take my daughter and our puppy for a little nature exploration. However, the signage indicated that no dogs are permitted whatsoever. Very discouraging. I wonder how this came about. Likely, some irresponsible pet owners ruined it for the rest of us. Well-behaved dogs should be permitted on the trails, with the expectation that their owners clean up after them and keep them on leash. read more

Quiet lake side park. Two nice pavilions, a bathroom facility, and 2 tables with checkerboards - bring your own checkers. Playground equipment off one of the trails. Saw several people fishing. Does not allow dogs although we did see someone walking their small dog on the trail. read more

I didn't know this 54-acre park existed until I went searching for parks around Lancaster yesterday. I'm so glad I decided to visit on my day off: a beautiful oasis close to where I live. Lake Grubb (13-acre) is a manmade lake in the ore pit of the old iron mine excavated on the site in the 1800s. At one time, it was used as a water supply but that stopped around 2000, and in July 2003, it was turned into Lake Grubb Nature Park (LGNP). Here are some amenities: * There is a one-mile trail around the lake. It is well-maintained but I've read that it can be muddy at times. The trail is almost all shaded and a fairly, easy hike. There are a couple of spots where there is an incline. * Lots of benches * 2 Pavilions with electrical outlets and can hold up to 100 people for events * Restrooms * Fishing is allowed. * No dogs/pets allowed, swimming or boating. * Lake Grubb has some spots as deep as 180-feet deep. * The website says there is a playground but I didn't see one? For me, I rate places based on solitude. LGNP was perfect for me. I was there on a Monday morning and I did see people while I was hiking but most of the time, I was alone. It was quiet except for the birds tweeting and the cicadas chirping. I was delighted to see a Green Heron at the water's edge. It let me take several photos. I also saw an American Goldfinch on the trail. At one point, there was a "butterfly bush" and lots of butterflies flying around. Great for photographers. I will definitely be back. :) read more

The one mile hike around the lake is peaceful and serene. It's not a flat walk, so some may need a walking stick. Plenty of benches around to rest. Went yesterday so it was muddy in some places. Maybe wear boots. There was a huge tree cracking and started to fall when the tree next to it caught it. We had to pay attention to this but lucky it wasn't to windy out. Kinda cool and scary at the same time. Water was clear and pretty. Sorry, no dogs are allowed. Plenty of parking, picnic tables, and fishing spots. There is a grill at each pavilion. I can't believe this "lake" is practically in our backyard yet we would drive many miles to fish! Conveniently located in West Hempfield between Sinking Spring and Columbia this township owned park has lots to offer. Aside from fishing, there's a mile long trail that goes around the lake, pavilions, picnic tables, and benches for taking in nature. The fishing area was clean and although the fish weren't biting that day I'm sure there's some big ones lurking under the dark waters. Not far from the parking lot was a large covered pavilion with bathroom accessibility that would be perfect for family reunions and large get together. I did not see any grills or playgrounds, but there's plenty of grassy areas for kids to play and explore nature. read more

I enjoyed the scenery of Grubb Lake but was not impressed with the hiking trail. When I arrived I realized that they do not allow dogs on the trail, which I found odd. The trail is relatively easy and wraps around the perimeter of the lake. I noticed a couple of families fishing nearby a playground area towards the front of the lake. Overall a pretty sight, but nothing too extraordinary. read more
