The only reason I give it one star is because the receptionist was very kind and professional. I came in for a gel pedicure however I informed them that I do use acrylic on some of my nails. They looked at me like I was an alien and were speaking amongst themselves I'm assuming by the looks they were giving earth other was that they didn't want to work on my nails because of that. They kept coming back and forth standing they couldn't work on my nails because they didn't know anything about acrylics? After about an hour of back and forth they asked me to wait for another person at that point I said no and decided to leave. The most humiliating part was they were talking to me infront of all the customers that's were there. They did not apologize for the me feeling humiliated. I've been coming to Kure for years - they're the best! Kure truly lives up to the "Spa" in its name. I always feel so taken care of from check in to check out, from reception to my technicians, and they always do a beautiful job. This last mani/pedi was beyond. For my vacation, I treated myself to the jelly/tigers eye mani with Alina and so many people have stopped me mid-convo to comment on how gorgeous they look. Als love Zoe for gorgeous mani's too. And I am loyal to Amy for my pedi's. She is the sweetest, fun, ALWAYS find a perfect match for my mani's (this last one was tough), and gives the best massages! Tu is my nail tech and I can't say enough about how great she is. She totally knows what colors looks best on me (like warm tones) and alway comes up w some cute detail that sets my nails apart. I was looking for a last minute appointment before my birthday on Saturday to get a gel x set done at 6pm. I reached out to nail salons but found Kure Spa and after seeing their pictures & reviews, I was convinced. They responded within minutes that they could take my appointment and gave me transparent pricing when I gave them the pictures of the designs I was considering. When I got there, they already knew what I was there for upon giving my name and I was seated within seconds. I was asked if I wanted to choose my colors myself or if I wanted them to choose. I let them choose because I was trusting (and already came an hour or two before closing). All the nail colors in the design were already being placed at the table. The nail tech was very sweet & did a phenomenal job. I told her it was my first time and I have been going to a nail salon for 3 years that never did nail art, only solid colors, french tip, or ombre. That other nail salon basically would say that they can't do the design I wanted and would discourage me from wanting gems and other extras. I will definitely recommend this place and will go back. Reasonably priced for the quality of the designs and execution. I never felt judged and was even offered a beverage. If you want to show a picture of what you want, and get exactly that, please come here. They do not discourage you from getting what you want. Extremely clean as well. read more

I thought a lot before writing this review. This isn't an inexpensive service, and I always leave a tip. Unfortunately, after every pedicure I still go home with dirt underneath my toenails, which makes me feel like the cleaning wasn't thorough. And also they were badly cut. I have to finish myself at home. During my last visit, something was applied over my regular nail polish that made it extremely difficult to remove at home. The technicians are kind, but for the price, I expect more attention to detail and better communication about the products being used. Not sure if I want to go back. read more

I've been to Kure spa before for a pedicure and it was a great experience. I decided to go back for a regular mani pedi to treat myself. I went in on Thursday afternoon, come Friday 2 of my French tip nails had already chipped and the clear polish started lifting on two nails. I called to see if I could get them fixed since they were just done the day before. I was told they have no policy about fixing them unless it was gel. I asked how much would it be to just change them to gel instead to prevent this from happening again. They told me it would cost me another $40 to redo the manicure with gel polish. Granted I already paid $70 the day before. Kind of wild that after spending that money they wanted me to pay more for a service that didn't even last a full day. Jenny did my pedicure and she is amazing but I probably won't be going back if this what happens when their work doesn't last a day. read more

Do not go here for gelx removal. My regular independent nail technician was out of town so I went to this local nail salon for a gelx removal. Instead of using the electric file to just remove the majority of the gelx tip, and then using a scraper tool to remove the softened gel, this salon just continously using the e-file over and over. Honestly I should have just walked out and left, but I anxiously waited until the service was done. My nailbeds are so thin, dry, and red - it's actually concerning. After 45 minutes of filing the tech then made a laughing comment that my nailbeds were "so thin!" At this point all I can do is painfully wait several weeks for them to grow out and warn others to look elsewhere. read more

Changing my review to 3 versus 5 got a pedicure today and this is one of the worst I've ever received, it was so short my cuticles weren't pushed down, and my callus was not worked on at all. They tried to tell me it's because I didn't get the callus removal. A $45 pedicure should still include some cleaning up of the dead skin. In all fairness, they did offer to work on it unfortunately, I can't spend another hour in the nail salon because I'm a busy mom of two. I'm going to look at other spas moving forward. read more

I came to kure today for an acrylic removal + gel x french tip. The nail tech did not do a good job with the french tip and it's extremely messy and for the price point. gel x being $75 + french tip $15 +$15 removal you'd expect the service to be better. My nails were also extremely thin and i told her about the sensitivity of my nails and she kept laughing throughout the whole nail appointment - not sure what's so funny when it is genuinely painful and just wanted her to be a bit more delicate with my nails. An expensive experience just to end up with nails i'm not satisfied with. This was definitely the worst experience i've had at Kure - will not be returning again and do not recommend. There's a lot of other nail salons in silverlake that will do a much better job at the same price if not lower. read more

I regret ever going back. I used to go here years ago when they opened and time and time again I would have a terrible experience. I haven't been back in 8 years. I heard it was under new ownership and thought I'd give it a go. I needed a simple manicure for a photoshoot tomorrow. Jewelry - so my nails need to look perfect. No polish, just cleaned up. This was all communicated to my nail tech when I sat down. She shaped my nails in such a strange way (not how I asked), none of them were even. And now they are too short. The top of my nails were all scratched from her heavy rough nail file. I wasn't getting polish and she didn't buff my nails to make them nice (or to try to fix all her scratches.) I asked for the natural eco manicure, but my expensive cashmere sweater still got smelly lotion all over the cuffs and arms. I ended up going straight home to wash it all off, and then out again to CVS to buy my own nail kit to try to fix everything. I should have just done it myself from the start. I'm not sure why it's so hard to find a nice place in LA. But if you are looking, please, save your money and do it yourself. read more

I've come here a few times and usually don't have an issue, but this time I was super disappointed in my nails. I loved the color, but he didn't use any cuticle softener when he was cleaning up my nails, which wasn't a big deal because I trust the process and don't speak up. My main issue was the application of the gel, he got it on my cuticles so when it's growing out, it started lifting and when I do my hair it gets caught under the gel. He also painted the sides of my nails so it's lifted and looks really bad. I'm not sure if they just rushed through it, because I came in the last hour of them being open. I'm just disappointed because it's not cheap and after 1 week they're completely destroyed. Unfortunately I won't be coming back even though it's right by my home. read more

I keep trying Kure spa hoping to love it but unfortunately, I don't. Things I do appreciate: Their easy online scheduling [except cancelling; you have to call] It is never [in my experience] over packed. So its relaxing & quiet. Now, why don't I love it? Well, every time I come, I am left displeased with my nails. The employees are sweet, though, I have sent my elderly mother before and they weren't so as patient with her as one would hope. The last time was the last draw for me. I came in for a gel mani/pedi. My manicurist over cut my cuticles a couple times leading me to bleed, which I know can happened but I felt like she was just not being gentle and taking her time. She then was asked to go fix someone else's nails and told me to wait for a few minutes. My pedicurist was very attentive to my needs and focused on doing a great job. A day and a half later, my manicure was chipping. This NEVER happens to me. I am extremely careful with my nails, I wear gloves while washing dishes, etc... so it is very unfortunate to pay a premium and get low quality results. Overall, if this was my first unpleasant experience I would not be as displeased, however, I have given Kure multiple tries and 9/10 times I have had issues. read more

I have been giving this spot chances since it opened. I'm from the area and I've been to pretty much every nail salon within a 6 mile radius. When it opened it was cute, but not super comfortable. The chairs are regular chairs and you can't rest your head. It's also very worn down now and hasn't been upgraded beyond additional fake plants and statues. This last stinky of trial I was really hoping I'd find a great set of nail techs to stick with. When I started to come again maybe 4 months ago give or take I inquired about someone who could do marooning nails and the owner, who is actually an exceptional nail tech from another salon I used to go to in the past suggested a few people. I felt excited I would be taken care of. I am a dedicated regular client who knows what I want and has been getting their nails done in this area my entire life regularly searching so this felt promising. I had been before a few times here and there but regularly throughout the years but did not like the quality, but things change so I decided to give it a try again. After coming in every 10 days as a regular patron and even sooner for vital fix's like air pockets in the gel builder, which cause fungus and other infections, to needing actually visual quality redone, I have once again had to avoid this nail salon. When you request a particular tech and don't get them, leave pretty much with grown out polish and thin layering, needing to come back right away, air pockets, you're trying to grow your natural nail bed out with gel structure but they keep carving into your natural nail causing pain and the inability to be able to when you know you can, thick horned looking nails, getting your appointment changed to another service you know you didn't get and being charged(I asked about this and they told me I didn't know what I got and the tech said I got this and I was charged more because of it) asked for cuticle care and never got it, paid for extra massage but got half the time while the tech talked holding your foot and not massaging it, no callus care, peeling gel polish over the cuticle, ugly grow out with old gel still in the cuticle, I could go on and on. My mom just recently told me when I spoke about this to her that she went there and stopped going because she thinks they don't autoclave and got a toe infection from them they didn't respond to her about. I also didn't get a response to my last email to them with pictures of the poor work. They didn't address any of the quality issues I had and defended their pricing and what I got without letting me know of the change until I saw it on my card bill. You definitely feel like they cut corners on the services and details like cuticle and under the nail cleaning, callus removal, massage, and don't come at the end of the day when they're tired. Even lower quality. When I looked at other yelps out of curiosity the responses to people having issues were things like, did you even come here and was this accidentally a yelp for another place, so rude and unaccountable for the lack of quality, quality control, customer care, and management. I just had to yelp. It's upsetting to give a place chances and loyalty and have responses like that. Last but not least they have signs up saying $5 gift card if you yelp us. I am a business owner of 14 years and I would never try to bribe for ratings . It's about quality and earning it. I typically drive over an hour away to get my nails done because I've had such bad luck in the echo park / Silverlake area. I decided to give Kure a try and I'm really glad I did. 1. Very accommodating: I had a gel X appt for nails and a gel pedicure. I called the morning of and asked to switch my nail appointment to after my pedicure and they did it with no hesitation. On top of this, I was struggling with parking and this caused me to be about 5-10 minutes late and again, they were flexible. 2. Front desk was so sweet. I got the normal books to look through the colors, but the front desk girl ( I wish I remembered her name ), looked at my nails, which was the color I always get, and already knew what color they were and brought it right over. I had also never had GelX before and they explained it to me very clear and kindly. 3. Both of the nail techs were meticulous. One of the reasons I drive so far away is because it's been impossible to find a tech in the area that doesn't leave gel looking chunky and uneven, where it ends up making your nails look bigger than they are- (it's my BIGGEST pet peeve). The techs were extremely thoughtful with this and the shaping, and both my fingers and toes were a very natural thickness, no chunky / thick gel application here! Thank goodness. All the nails were placed straight and filed evenly both in shape and length. They also do thorough cuticle care which I see less of at other salons these days. I wanted to note a couple of things based off of previous reviews I've seen that initially made me nervous. First off, my intention is not to invalidate anyone else's experience. However, my personal experience was very hygienic. They brought the tools out in a sanitary package. Aside from those tools I think the basket in general could be perceived otherwise because the baskets they keep them in are a little aged, subjectively the salon too- though this holds no bearing on the quality of service. That said, I pay really close attention to this type of thing. I take it seriously and I'm very unforgiving of salons when it comes to safety and hygiene. I've quietly and respectfully left salons in the past mid service (never without paying), due to unhygienic practices and poor quality work. I did not have that experience here. Again, I can't speak to others experiences and I'm not suggesting they weren't valid, but I do feel it important to share mine which felt safe and clean. I've also seen critique regarding the A-la-carte nature of the menu. I priced out my services with the "add-ons", and while I wouldn't consider it a budget-friendly salon (no salon in LA is), the cost hardly differs from other comparable salons in the area. I've never written a review this detailed, but maybe other people have had as hard of a time as I have with finding a good salon in the area, so hopefully it's of some help. As life has gotten busier and driving an hour away becomes more and more inconvenient I'm really grateful, even excited, to have found a salon close to home that I can trust. I'll be back! read more
