Now that I've lived in Hobart for six years I have to apologise for misgendering our beautiful mountain. She's absolutely a she, she is mother to us all and we rest in her shadow. No idea why Yelp has removed her indigenous name from the listing. The dual name "kunanyi / Mount Wellington" is absolutely in use on all signage and locals know her as kunanyi. Have some respect, Yelp.

It is a bit of a hair-raising ride to the top up some small windy roads. I think Australia has looser safety standards on these things than the U.S. does, and it makes me a tad nervous. Once at the top, though, you're treated to some serious panoramic views. And on top of that, some cool vegetation. Indeed, the whole mountain is a very nice park, though I suspect many are just in it to get to the summit as I was.

Tasmania was one of the first stops in my backpacking trip through Australia and it ruined my perception of the rest of the country. Although other cities might have more to do, but nothing compares to the scenery of this island. This attraction is a couple hour ordeal and can be knocked off early in the day and still leave you plenty of time to check out the rest of Hobart. Mount Wellington has scenic views. Best times are around sunrise or sunset. Just like Dennis S. posted in his review. It can be a drastic difference in temperature. Bring a jacket. Be careful while driving to and from Hobart because they have cameras up. My friend got a speeding ticket.

Simply breathtaking, 360 degree views! We booked our excursion at the Hobart Visitor center and round trip, it took just about two hours. It's not very far from the heart of downtown Hobart up to the top of the mountain, and we had clear views into the city proper, and then a view of the extended areas beyond downtown that were shrouded in fog, so it was a great combo!
Mount Wellington towers over Hobart, Tasmania, and is an absolute must-see for breathtaking panoramic views. Standing 4,169 feet tall. On our clear day, the view from the summit was extraordinary. The drive up the mountain winds through lush forests of eucalyptus trees and alpine flora as the elevation increases. At the summit, multiple lookout points, including a sheltered observation deck, offer a place to enjoy the views. Be prepared for a temperature drop; it's often cooler up top than in Hobart. read more
2000! When I started Yelping almost a decade ago, I don't think that I had it in my mind that I would get to this pinnacle. Writing this many reviews in that time seemed like climbing a mountain. Thus it seems fitting to write a review about Mount Wellington which I visited earlier this year. Mount Wellington is a mountain located in the southeastern portion of the island of Tasmania. It is not the tallest mountain on Tasmania and it is not even close as it ranks 50th. But the mountain's location overlooking the city of Hobart which is the largest city on the island makes this spot an appealing place to visit. In fact, this was my primary reason for visiting Tasmania having seen pictures of it online. The location is easily accessible from Hobart and there are a number of ways to reach it. You can hike, bike, rent a car or book a tour. The day I trekked to the mountain was the first day of winter, so it didn't make sense to hike or bike up. Instead, I joined a bus tour as it seemed the most economical and simplest option. Before you go, make sure to cover up. It is chilly at the summit, so I would suggest wearing winter weather clothing or a windbreaker with a hoodie along with additional layers. Make sure to also bring provisions like water and food. There are restroom facilities at the summit, but no places to get a snack. Also check the weather conditions before going. If there is snow or ice, the road to the summit may be closed. To reach the summit of Mount Wellington, you need to drive up Pinnacle Road. This road is reminiscent of going up Round Top back home in Honolulu as it is quite winding. As you go up, there are some spots at a lower elevation that you can stop off to take pictures at. After reaching the summit, the tour guide gave me 30-40 minutes to look around which I think is sufficient time. Though it is a little rushed, so if you really want to bask in the beauty I would give it a hour. Upon visiting Mount Wellington, I thought it really lived to its reputation and more. It was cold, but the sun was shining and there was mostly clear skies. The mountain is covered with rocks and mossy grass. The mountain's summit is so high that it was located above a few clouds in some parts. There are roped walkways at the summit from which you can take pictures of the surroundings below. The view on Mount Wellington of Hobart and the blue waters of the Derwent River are perfect. It is impossible to take a bad picture from here. There is also a lookout building if you want to take your pictures from an enclosed space. And a giant white tall structure here which is a radio tower taking advantage of the mountain's height and location. Visiting Mount Wellington was one of the biggest highlights of my trip to Australia. It is a jaw-dropping place full of natural beauty. I highly recommend traveling up to the summit here if you are visiting Hobart as it will be one of most memorable spots of your trip. read more

Mount Wellington was the spot for one of the most breathtaking views of my month in this country. Incredible vistas in every direction, wind whipping in your face. Sun shining on you but still a little chilly. DO NOT MISS THIS IF YOU ARE IN TASMANIA. read more

The mountain lords over Hobart. It's not a gigantic mountain, so it's an easy drive to the top, even a cab ride (just don't let your driver leave you up there). The views are terrific, with unchallenging walkways around the top area. Just one warning: It can be nice and warm down it Hobart, and very cold on top of Mt. Wellington. read more

Cold, but great view. Sunrise is great with the sun coming up over the city. There is also a shielded indoor viewing platform in case of bad weather. read more

What an amazing ride up!! You get to detect difference in micro-climate along the way and enjoy the sites! It is incredibly beautiful. What is also amazing is how smooth and easy-to-drive the road is the way up (and down). It is fantastically user-friendly which makes the beauty of the ride that much better!! The very top of the mount is really cool and provides some fantastic 360 views! Even though it is cold during the winter months, it is absolutely worth your time to walk around and take photos! A must do trek for a visitor or a local! read more

you don't spell kunyani with a capital so out of respect for that big ol mountain i will perform this review with no capital letters. i believe that kunyani is alive. my home in howrah used to kowtow to it and it dominated my focus for a time. it spoke to me. it said "we know each other now...you can call me 'kunyaans' if you'd like". i said no! absolutely not. that is way too cavelier a 'tude to have with the almighty mama. the magic in hobart comes from that mountain. the reason i didn't give 5 stars is i'm still not convinced that the spirit isn't evil. if it wants to prove itself it can deposit 10000000 dollars into my bank and ensure the bank don't bat an eyelid about it. then and only then will i fully believe its power is a benevolent one...hmm kunyani? whaddya say? read more
