To add to my previous review…read more... My son's grades in 5th grade math by quarter: Q1: 52 Q2: 69 Q3: 64 Enrolled and started the Mathzone program between the end of Q3 and beginning of Q4 Q4: 99 That's right... he went from a 64 to a 99 in one quarter! If that's not proof of how well this program works, I'm not sure what else there is! Thank you Mathzone!

Marsha the owner was very informative and gracious during our initial call and I felt that she was very passionate about helping my son. During this time I noticed that she was doing all the work and my son was just copying. I addressed my initial concern and she said that she will adjust her style. Then on two occasions, I walked through the facility to use the bathroom and my son was just sitting there and she was the only tutor onsite with 3 students. At that point, I knew that he was not getting the full hour I paid for... he got about 20 to 30 minutes of help so I changed to virtual so that I was guaranteed one-on-one instruction and the full hour. During this period, my son really liked Marsha and felt very comfortable learning from her. I also liked her flexibility; she would go above and beyond to accommodate my schedule which is why I continued to stick it out thinking that things will get better. I ignored the red flags and just trusted Marsha. On Jan 16, I texted Marsha telling her that I noticed that she signed me up for another 3 months and advised her to change it to ad-hoc. That at this point I am just trying different things out. However, during the 1st virtual one-on-one session, I witnessed her again doing the entire problem first and then Niko just robotically agreeing to what she said. At that point, I advised Marsha that I will not continue and that her style is not the right fit for my son. my son had a D in two quarters under her and I did not want to continue the downward spiral. Therefore, I knew that I had completed the 3-month commitment from Oct to December. The virtual session I added in January was an ad-hoc session in an effort to try different things and to see if anything would change. however, she advised me that the contract is a perpetual contract and renews automatically and that I should have canceled in Dec. I was taken aback and informed her that I was never told that and I would have never agreed to sign a perpetual contract and at the minimum, I would have canceled within the appropriate timeframe. The sessions went from $345 to $499. So she said that I am locked in 3 more months from Feb to April. At this point, thought this was the craziest thing that a company cares more about the money than the service. With that, I ceased all conversation and will not ever pay her $1500 for a service that I will never use. This place is a rip-off! After this situation, I researched Mathzone and saw that there were complaints about this very issue. There is also a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Nevertheless, the response from MathZone is the same. They see no fault in their practices. Nevertheless, the issue I have is her method of doing the work for the students and not teaching them the concepts, the facility is short-staffed- she is the only tutor for 2-3 students-she is spread too thin, and the perpetual verbiage is hidden in the contract and not conveyed at the time of signing it. Truly love this school. Our son will be attending with our daughter this year and we are so excited to see his progress as well. Children thrive here!

During each stage of Jack's development, the staff worked with us (parents) to ensure that they were maximizing his potential. They strive for personalized excellence, and in doing so, Garden students have the unique opportunity to learn about their passions. For example, Jack is especially interested in the solar system. The knowledgeable and Montessori-trained teachers provided specific (solar system!) opportunities which allowed him to nurture this passion. Jack is so proud of his working knowledge of the solar system, and I strongly believe that is because he was provided with stimulating work related to this passion. Jack has also matured socially, and I credit Garden for this. He has developed a strong sense of justice (one of the many virtues that Garden instills), independence, curiosity, and kindness. While only in kindergarten, he is already an advanced reader, completes complex math problems, and loves to learn. I believe that this love of learning is essential for children to continue on to traditional school methods and beyond. We are so grateful for the incredibly gifted staff at Garden. They are attentive, empathetic, and knowledgeable. Every day I drop Jack off at school, I know he is in good hands.

When you attempt to have an adult conversation about your feelings, she loses her ability to think rationally and asserts her dominance once again. She attempts to micromanage every situation even when she isn't present. There were several situations where she would spit off emails or call before she had all the facts, accusing and pointing fingers. She, however, would not come back and apologize or admit that she leaped before having the facts, afterwards. It eventually got to the point where she was twisting facts and blowing molehills into mountains with untrue statements. She was pushing us to medicate our child when our pediatrician strongly discouraged medicating at that time. The teachers were too passive to set strict boundaries, and they seemed to cower to the owner and allow her to control and micromanage a classroom they were in charge of. The owner made accusatory statements that, when I would speak with other parents, didn't seem true at all. We are not saying that our child was perfect in any way, and he definitely needed some more guidance and stricter boundaries; however, the way things played out here was very disheartening. We even went as far as to have a behavior specialist come in to observe for an IBHS support person; which they requested. I attempted to have a discussion with the owner about feelings towards my child, which is what ultimately ended our time here. She went ballistic instead of being professional and reassuring. It was such a hit to her ego, and she couldn't take it or someone standing up to her false accusations. There was no professional adult conversation, just finger-pointing and blocking. Our son didn't have these types of behaviors in the school before or after this school. He is doing great now in a new school. The behavior consultant discussed what she saw when she observed, and a lot of it was boundary pushing and allowing him to get his way, instead of setting clear boundaries and consequences to teach him, it seemed to be all over the place. Lots of reminders with no consequences, allowing him to get what he wanted, which would reinforce the poor behavior, them being frustrated, and eventually just a target on his back. Again, not that these behaviors were acceptable, but they weren't what was being made out either after speaking to the behavior consultant and piecing things together on our own. I also went in to observe one day. No behaviors but saw him being kicked. When he kicked back, he got caught and in trouble. His new school said they also don't understand because they don't see the behaviors that this owner was saying he had. If you have a very calm, timid, robot-like child, this will be a great fit. However, if you have a rambunctious child with ADHD who goes against the grain at times and wants to be moving, this is 100% not the right fit. The day I observed, they were expected to sit for 25 min doing carpet time. That's a long time for a 4-year-old, let alone a 4-year-old boy who has ADHD. They do wonderful activities there, which is why my son loved it, but there was lots of sitting and expectations of standing still, straight lines, chair work, and not enough strict follow-through. Like I mentioned above, if you have a quiet, calm, timid child, this place is great. If you have a typical hyper, rowdy, strong-willed child, I would find a place better fit because StemSteps cannot and will not be a good fit for your child. I suggest reading the book Raising Lions for this school and some training in consistent follow through, rule setting, consequences and behavior management.

Stemsteps has the best teachers/atmosphere that actually care about kids (not just keep them alive), provide great exposure to veggies at meal times, and give him a variety of experiences to meet his milestones.
