My thali (Tamil mangalsutra) had some damage on one side and we were very impressed by how it was handled. Not only was it very affordable ($65), but they also completed it within just a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon. They were very honest and professional, weighing it for us before and after repair. They removed only the affected portion (returned to us) and soldered it back together, also adding a small reinforcement piece to prevent any future issues. I called every jeweler in the San Jose/Fremont/Hayward area because I wanted to have my late grandfather's karrah's (Sikh religious bracelet) gold used for my fiancée-to-be's karrah for sentimental reasons. Kumar jeweler was the ONLY place that understood and guaranteed to fulfill my request. I spoke to the owner himself and he told me the different ways this could be accomplished. He was very understanding, prompt, and attentive at the shop. There were several different karrah designs that he had for me to pick from. The pieces here are reasonably priced as well as unique and intricately designed. I bought a gold nose ring while I was here, and I could tell it was of high quality. TLDR: Terrible customer service. Does not get the product on time. If I could give no stars, I would. We dropped our piece off on May 4th and were told it would be ready in one week (May 11th). We happened to be busy that weekend, so I called in on May 15th to make sure it was ready before I took the time to go pick it up and.. of course, IT WASN'T. So, I'm a nice person, I understood that it was Mother's Day and things must have been busy. The lady on the phone told me it would be ready by May 19th. Another week. Finally, today, May 18th, I give them a call thinking it's going to be ready and I can just pick it up and surprise my husband. I call in and they tell me it's not ready yet. Obviously, this made me upset. The lady gave the phone to the guy and he began shouting at me and saying it's not their fault that it's late and it's out of their hands if the postal service hasn't gotten it back to them yet. I tried interjecting and saying something, but he kept shouting and cutting me off before I could get anything across! They been very good to me and make mostly any kind of jewelry I ask for example in silver or copper. Well when one is buying gold bar or coins, I am sure no matter where or from whom you buy; that business has to make some money. I think this place is much better than the current rating. I think people need to adjust their customer service expectations a bit. This place caters to Indian American community. People working here may not be trained in the American expectations of customer service but are just fine to work with. My parents have shopped here for decades. And now I have too for at least 5+ years. I have compared their prices (on jewelry not gold coins) and they are always way cheaper than the ones I checked. Most recently I saw their prices around 40% cheaper than a much bigger Indian jewelry store nearby on similar item. One of the purchases had a damaged piece of ruby in it. I noticed it only after we got home. I called the next day. They said we can bring it in anytime we are in the area and they can replace the damaged ruby. In the past I have also had them size a ring without a charge. Works for me! read more

I bought a golden ring with 10 small rubies embedded into it from Kumar Jewelers. I bought it as a gift for my fiance. Literally one day after I gave it to her, one of the rubies fell out by itself. She hadn't dropped it or banged it against anything at all. All she did was wear it. She wears two other rings on her hands, and nothing happened to either of those rings during the time. I took the ring back to Kumar Jewelers, and they repaired it free of charge, but the repair quality was absolutely terrible. It looked as if someone had used super glue to attach the ruby back into place, and the ruby was smaller than the original one that had fallen out. You could see the hardened glue on top of the small ruby and on the band as well, making it look as if a child had just made the ring. My fiance wore the ring anyways, but less than a week later, another separate ruby fell out. I couldn't even return the ring after all of this because Kumar Jewelers has a no return policy (probably because they know how terrible their jewelery quality is). I suggest no one ever shops here ever again. read more
