Also was expecting a bit more rainbow mochi thrown in as opposed to just 4 tiny ones on a stick. Marshmallow was good, but it is just very lightly toasted. I've had egg waffle ice cream in other establishments, but this flavor just missed the mark for me as a first timer. Ok, so we placed our orders for ice cream and waited. And then we noticed that the people who ordered before us were eating waffles. And then the people who ordered after us got waffles. And we waited. And we waited. Finally at closing time, we asked why we hadn't gotten our order yet. The guy behind the counter looked confused and didn't seem to know what was going on. Finally, the woman with the dark hair got off her ass and started scooping ice cream, and for each cup of ice cream, she would put it on the counter, yell out something completely incomprehensible over the inappropriately loud metal music coming out of the crappy boombox on the counter, and immediately turn away. No eye contact, no apology, nothing. Just annoyance and attitude. So just as we start to eat the ice cream they just gave us, out come the mops and buckets full of bleach-smelling floor cleaner. And they come and start mopping right around our table as we're trying to eat the ice cream they could have given us half an hour ago, glaring at us with bitterness and resentment. My family and I checked out Kuma for the first time and loved the concept! We were able to sample the ice cream before making our selection and of course we had to try the waffle cone. Now this is not your typical American style ice cream waffle cone that you may be thinking of, this is a bubbled waffle curved to fit in a paper holder which holds your ice cream and various toppings. Hello second location of Kuma and welcome to the Westside! Well... at least further West than the first location. This Kuma offers the same tasty Hong Kong style bubble waffle and ice cream dessert that the first location is famous for, but it has expanded its drink menu to be a full service bubble tea bar. At the time of the soft opening, the menu is still limited compared to say Bambu or Tealicious. However, they have their same specialty items from the first location: hyper potion, butterfly effect, and lychee lemonade. The store front is simple, but when you walk in you realize that this place was made for Instagram-ready photos of their treats. On the left side as you walk in is a faux-grass covered wall from floor to ceiling that has cursive white lettering, "hello fresh." On the right side are succulents housed in geometric planters and a neon pink sign with the phrase "It Ain't Gonna Lick itself!" The menu is on a large blackboard directly above the order/pick-up counter with the bubble waffle options on the left and the drinks on the right. For the bubble waffles, you pick your ice cream, up to four toppings, and then one sauce for your own tasty creation (one size fits all)! For the bubble teas it's as easy as picking your tea and whether or not you want sinkers (e.g. boba, custard, mixed fruit jelly). A cool thing to note is that they offer three sizes for the drinks: regular, large, and glass. The glass option is about the same size as a regular, but it is reusable, i.e. you come back with it similar to a reusable container at a Starbucks. I believe the guy at the register said that they offer a discount if you bring the glass back to reuse, but I need to double-check... I got a thai tea in a reusable glass bottle ($6) and a regular hyper potion ($4), and both tasted amazing! The hyper potion is more-or-less a blueberry lemonade that's been jazzed up, and the thai tea is delicious! Asked how they were served and they showed me a container with waffle like round balls. Asked if I could order a couple of different flavors and was told no. Only one flavor , ordered pineapple with coconut flakes and almond flakes. Found that the bottom of contained was filled with waffle balls instead of ice cream. The wait time is quite tedious for food. The drinks come out in a reasonable amount of time but the food takes really really really long (about 30'?). The takoyaki is nice. The fries got a very uneven experience attracted: the sauce drizzled a lot on top while the bottom is pure blan (I wish they could either mix it or just separate the sauce altogether). The inside also needs some work: it's just too open and provides no privacy, looks like a public picnic space. INCREDIBLE. Thick, creamy ice cream surrounded by a warm, fluffy, crunchy, bubble waffle cone? Yes please! This place is so good. I love the unique ice cream flavors they have & how well they're executed. The green tea ice cream was so light and refreshing. The lychee one even had chunks of fresh lychee in it. The topping choices are also nice and they give you a TON for the price. What I was most shocked about though was how amazing the waffle cone was. The thinner parts were crispy but you could pull apart each bubble and it was soft, and FILLED with delicious batter. I had been hesitant to come here just because I felt like it wouldn't live up to the hype or the pictures were deceiving but it was everything and more, exceeded my expectations for sure. I was also worried that it would be over priced but it wasn't. Prices were very fair for the quality and quantity that you get. It's clean and spaced out. My only complaint was the music. I'm not sure which employee chose the music this particular day but it was horrible. Very grungy... singer screaming something. There are different ice cream flavors to choose from and toppings which make it personable. The space is decorated very cute, hip and white. The walls are extremely bare which make the place look very clean. There could be more tables for the amount of space that this location has.
